Came by Monday with friends! Not sure if they take reservations but they weren't busy so we walked right in and got a table. To start, we got beers and margs. Not bad but nothing special. We also shared the shrimp ceviche. Good flavor but strange texture with the toasted nuts. The food seems like it's fusion as my friend and I both got chilaquiles but the chips were already broken apart and mixed with the meat. Still tasty but not what we expected. My other friend got the patacon, which basically looked like a salad. Far from the usual plantain fritters with toppings. Only one of my table mates ordered something that sounded like what was expected, the Ecuadorian churrasco: sirloin, eggs, fries, rice, and salad. For dessert, we got the flan and tres leches cake. There was a hair on the cake and they quickly gave us a new slice. Good but the flan could've been better. The cake was good though. Nothing was too sweet which was perfect. Overall the food was good but not as authentic as we had hoped. The service was also a bit slow. It was a slower evening but it took a while to get our drinks. Our server was really nice though. We came on a Friday evening around 7pm hoping to find a new spot to enjoy with friends and maybe share on Fork Around and Let Jess Tell It. After leaving Speck (no reservation, 3-hour wait), we pulled up Yelp to search nearby options. Arepazo looked promising, so we decided to give it a try. The interior was inviting--warm lighting, rich brown leather booths, and menus that felt clean and well-made. At first glance, the menu seemed full of options. We were especially interested in the empanadas, but then noticed they're only served from 11-2. For a place named Arepazo, that was disappointing. Still, we wanted to stay open-minded. Anthony, our server, was fantastic--friendly, professional, and offered recommendations right away. For about five minutes, it almost worked. We started to feel like maybe we'd been too quick to judge. But then one of my friends picked up her shot glass and spotted several tiny fruit flies floating in the drink. The mood shifted instantly. We pointed it out, and Anthony was sincerely apologetic and handled it professionally. We appreciated that, but ultimately closed out without ordering food. Overall: Great service and a nice atmosphere, but the drink issue and limited menu made it hard to want to stay. If you visit, maybe aim for lunch and check your glass first. Was traveling here and didnt know where the good restaurants were. Went to Google and narrowed it down to this one. We walked in around 530 on a Friday night and the restaurant appeared to be quiet. However, as we were seated at our table we could see that it was busier than it initially looked. The food was exactly what we were looking for. It wasn't too expensive (part of what we got was also on happy hour) and it was very flavorful. Furthermore, the food arrived quickly after the order was placed and arrive hot. We wanted to take my father-in-law out for lunch and after our first choice was closed, we stumbled upon Arepazo Tapas Bar and Grille--and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is bright, colorful, and full of beautiful murals. It really gives off a modern Spanish restaurant vibe. For appetizers, we tried the mixed empanadas made with cornmeal--they came with cheese, spicy, or plain options and a side of cilantro sauce. Absolutely delicious. We also had the chimi flatbread, which was packed with flavor, and the steak was tender and yummy. For entrees, I went with the steak arepas and a side of tostones, while my father-in-law and husband shared the bandeja paisa. My arepa was fantastic--I finished the whole thing! The tostones were authentic, perfectly crispy, and we shared them. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Even though the portions were generous, we ended up finishing everything. I think there used to be one in Gahanna, where Marlowe's is now. It was very good, and so is this one. I got the pabbellon criollo, a nice platter of meat, plantains, rice, and beans. And arepitas, little corn balls. I had shredded beef; you can also get chicken. It was tender, and well flavored. I did ask for hot sauce on the side, little cups of creamy green sauce that had a decent heat and added a nice flavor. The rice was perfect. The beans were darn good. The plantains and arepitas were perfect little bits, adding some variety to the dish. I devoured it all. Also got a blackberry juice, with milk. Creamy, tasty, very good. Service was great. I like the atmosphere- a bit dark, interesting decor, comfy seating. Parking was reasonably available on a Thursday evening. Only disappointment? I ordered tres leches cake to go, and left it there. Visiting Columbus and my friends brought me to this little place along South High Street. This is a Latin fusion restaurant- it offers dishes from Venezuela, Columbia, and Ecuador largely as that is where the owner and chef hail from. There's a few Mexican and Peruvian dishes scattered throughout the menu. Cute location, outdoor seating, friendly staff. I should note the place boasts an impressive mixed drink menu. We started with tequenos- which i can best describe as a mini stuffed bread stick. It's served with a spicy cilantro sauces. Very good. Next we got the empanadas. Now I'm generally not a fan of Columbian or Venezuelan empanadas but these were pretty good. The corn dough was crispy and the shrewd beef flavorful. As someone Peruvian by heritage I decided to venture out and try a columbian dish. I went with the bandeja paiso. Be advised: this is not for the faint of heart. You get steak, chorizo, chicharron PLUS Rice and beans with a fried egg on top. Oh and for good measure fried plantains. I enjoyed this dish -- what I could finish of it that is. Easily something split between two people. Anyways, this is a nice stop if you are visiting Columbus. Hands down the BEST EMPANADAS in the city. Also their cilantro cream sauces either regular or spicy are to die for. I've been going here for decades even as far back as when there old location was tucked in those back alleys behind the State Office Tower downtown. These aren't little half hand sized empanadas the majority of places in the city serves, these are HUMONGOUS! The massive empanadas, quality, and tastes have not changed even while moving to their newer location. One empanada makes about two meals ITS THAT BIG! Arepazo was a hit! We started with the empanadas and tequeños--both were delicious, and the cilantro crema dipping sauce that came with them was fantastic. For our mains, we had the patacón, chilaquiles, corn cake, tostada, and seco de pollo, with a mix of chicken, pork, and chorizo. Had a fantastic experience at Arepazo with my family. We had a reservation for 10 people and were seated in our own private area on a little stage. It was such an amazing experience because we were able to talk and enjoy each other without anyone right beside us. We enjoyed this meal the day before Thanksgiving which meant happy hour was still going on. They have a good selection of drinks and some appetizers that are included in this menu. Happy hour goes Monday through Friday from 5 pm until 7 pm. There is $5 cocktails, $5 appetizers and $1 off draft beer and wine. We ordered the Venezuelan Empanadas which were very delicious. It comes with three corn meal empanadas: 1 shredded beef, 1 shredded chicken, 1 black bean and cheese. Their cilantro sauce was my favorite. For my main entree, I ordered the fish tacos. It comes with three flour tortillas with breaded cod, green leaf lettuce, pico de gallo & avocado, corn salad. The portions are huge and ingredients were so fresh. My cousin got the tostado which is pictured as well with a corn tostada, black beans, rice, green leaf lettuce, plantain slice, mozzarella-provolone cheese, avocado, sour cream, pico de gallo and choice of protein. All options at this restaurant are fantastic. The service here was really awkward from the moment we walked in. The host just showed us to our seats without saying anything we could hear, and the waitress was really pushy and overly comfortable with us. I planned to order wine, but when I did, waitress looked at me like I was crazy and asked if I wanted sangria instead. I laughed it off and said "no thank you" because the price was suspiciously unmarked, and I just didn't want it. (In fact, many things on the menu don't have listed prices.) She asked if I was sure, so I asked how much it was, which was at least $4 more than what I wanted. "No thank you." I order my wine. She comes back a few minutes later and says she got it down to the price of regular wine. This was sweet of her but also just not necessary or asked for? I ended up just getting it instead because she so strongly wanted me to try it. It was good but still just not what I was wanting and not outstanding at all. In addition to all this, I don't remember what was said, but the waitress laughed and touched our arms, like she knew us. We had been inside for a total of 10 minutes, so I don't think we were friends enough for that to be comfortable lol. Definitely wasn't for us. Anyway. The cilantro sauce is really good! It made my chicken arepa go from a 3/5 to a 4/5. I don't have much desire to come back, but if I did, I would buy a bottle of the cilantro sauce to go. Highly recommend! The spicy one is veryyy spicy - too much for me personally - so I'd recommend starting with the regular unless you're up for that. I don't remember the dish my partner got, but it was unbelievably salty due to the shredded beef. It was so salty we had to take half of it to go to eat with rice at home. I'm amazed I've never left a review for Arepazo before, this is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Columbus. Do I even need to sing the praises of the cilantro sauce? The sauce is iconic, I've bought so many bottles and will put it on every dish imaginable. Everything on the menu sounds amazing but I'm pretty stuck in my ways and get empanadas or an arepa with an egg. The side of arepitas drenched in spicy cilantro sauce is truly a perfect snack. The last few years I've been opting for take out, and this is one of the few restaurants I've literally never had an issue with. The food is always ready when it supposed to be, is always hot when I get it and the staff is always very nice. It's obvious they're really putting in the effort to make sure customers are getting good food. It did take me a few minutes to read through the menu and glad they have some picture reference on it. The staff is super nice and patiently explained some menu items to me. There is so many things that I want to try and I ended up with Papa Criolla and Bandeja Paisa. I love the Bandeja Paisa and everything in it is so good. It is like a meat platter that are loaded with flavors and some side items as well. See below on all the items that come with the platter. My favorite from the platter will be the Colombian chorize and the chicharron. The casing of the Colombian chorize casing is crispy as you bite down and the filling is soft and juicy, along with a hint of smokiness. The chicharron is the deep fried pork belly. I usually order a fish (I think tilapia) salad and love it but this time I wanted steak and I don't think I'll ever order anything else. Authentic and appropriately "suped up" arepa for westernized clients -- its a rarity to find a Venezuelan-style arepa restaurant and bar that employees a well/traveled English/Spanish staff, warm colored ambience, and high night out food in the often forgotten high street shores of the Brewery District. Distant positioned from the Short North, campus, Clintonville, and Worthington, El Arepazo's location on the south side is visible gold bullion on a High Street island that has mostly been abandoned in recent years. Copious/Notes used to be a draw across from El Arepazo, bringing in thousands of guests in 2015-2018. Now, there's a Local Cantina, Antiques on High, Chipotle, First Watch, and a niche rock venue around the corner... the area is comprised mostly of attorney offices and heavily reserved parking spots, but if you seek it out like a travel destination, El Arepazo truly becomes a place to arrive and enjoy. When seated and speaking Spanish cordially with the well-traveled server, I was transported back to memories of the northern coast of South America, backpacking in hostels, and turfing through the Minca jungle on mud-ready motorcycles. It takes a lot to send me 2,000 miles south, but El Arapezo did just that. read more

I usually come once or twice a month. Today I ordered the lomo saltado and it apparently no longer comes with plantain or avocado. When I asked about it, the lady told me they changed the meal to accommodate for have a larger of portion of meat. BS! It was actually less meat; all I could see was fries. That may have worked had I not been ordering the same thing for 6+ years. I also took a break from this place in 2021 bc I was damn near accosted by the prick manager for picking up my to go order. He literally followed me out to my car screaming--in front of a patio full of customers--and demanded I show my ID. Weird behavior since looking for your name and picking up you food has always been the procedure. It was very embarrassing. Anyhow, the lady nicely refunded my money tonight--which accounts for the one star. My BF also alerted me that they took the burrito off the list (his fave). So, we have no reason to return. The happy hour specials include $5 margaritas or sangria, $5 appetizers with 3 to choose from, and $1 off draft beers -- not too shabby. The inside is way bigger than I was expecting, and they even have a private back room that I'm assuming can be rented out for events. Our server was attentive and friendly, but we were only 1 of 2 tables that night. I started off with the tequenos (comes with 4), which in layman's terms is a Latin/Central American version of mozzarella sticks. They came out quickly, but the outer breading didn't have all that much flavor aside from dipping each bite in cilantro sauce. The draft list is short and too the point -- 5 options total with 3 being Modelo, Dos Equis and Pacifico. For an entree, I went with the chicken Arepa since Arepa is in the name of the restaurant. It looked small, but it was packed with ingredients and ended up being pretty filling. However, the chicken for me was pretty dry, again having to douse each bite with the cilantro sauce. Latin America eatery close to home. This place is authentic and all the food tastes fresh. Portions were of decent size and left you feeling satisfied. The ambiance is very casual family feel and perfect for groups. They also have a bar area which great for catching a game or trying out their delicious drinks. Staff were welcoming and friendly and they checked on our needs and filled every single one. Tips to make your visit a success: 1) Cilantro sauce is a must have. The cilantro sauce is amazing and goes with anything on the menu. They even have it available to buy by the bottle. Stock up and enjoy. 2) Explore the menu. The menu has some things you will see at other restaurants and some you don't like chicharrones and tostones. It was new to me, and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I generally like foods from "South of the border" as a rule, and although Venezuela is way further south of the border than usual, I thought it would be interesting...and it's not Fast food, so it was (Hopefully) a win/win! Fortunately, it turned out to be a great place! The staff were all super enthusiastic, the atmosphere was kind of "dive bar / intimate" but clean and not too loud...I really enjoyed it a lot! The steak I had was well prepared, with good flavor and some interesting sides I'd never tried before, their fried plantain was really tasty, and they were just about the only restaurant I found in nearly a week in town that had Coke products, instead of the blue boys most people had available! My team and I were having a virtual "lunch and learn" together and I've been wanting to try Arepazo out for a while now. I ordered through their website online and it was extremely easy to do. I also paid online, which made this process even easier and contactless. After browsing through the reviews I decided on their crab cakes and a black bean empanada. I also got a bottle of their cilantro sauce since everyone was raving about it. My food was available for pickup within twenty minutes or so and as I pulled up to the restaurant, I couldn't believe I had driven by it so many times. It's located right off High St. in the middle of the Brewery District. There's even outdoor seating folks! When I walked in there wasn't an employee in sight but my food was ready for me. They have a designated pickup spot right inside for all carryout or delivery orders. I grabbed up my order and I was quickly headed back home to eat. Everything was still piping hot and for starters, I could not believe how big the black bean empanada was. For comparison sake, it was about the size of my face. No lie! I ended up saving that for dinner and I'm so glad I did. I easily heated it back up in the oven and it was delicious. The crab cakes came with rice, black beans, and plantains and this was more than a filling lunch. The crab cakes were crispy on the outside and moist inside, the black beans were amazing, and the plantains (while a little mushier than I like) were flavorful. I couldn't stop eating it and I was so glad I purchased a bottle of the cilantro sauce. It was indeed delicious and I can't wait to add it to my meals at home. My favorite that I always go back to is the shredded chicken chilaquiles. The combination of flavors is a 10/10. The black beans and plantains are some of the best I've ever had. The spicy cilantro sauce is the best sauce on the planet IMO. The shredded beef lomo saltado has excellent flavors as well. It was my first time ever having lomo saltado and has introduced me to Peruvian food and has me wanting to try more. I was also blown away by the Cuban sandwich. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the cheese perfectly melted inside. The meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Another notable mention is the fish tacos- excellent flavor as well! The service is fast and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is well decorated and spacious. Venezualian food is a wonderful discovery. This restaurant is within walking distance of the always lovely courthouse. The coffee was hot and strong and the beef dish was extraordinary. I can't remember what it was called but it had plaintains on the bottom, spicy beef, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and avacado. The accompanying green sauce was exquisitely spicy. All in all, a beautifully balance of flavors. Will go back ! read more

We stopped in here for a quick bite . First time here . Very casual place . The margaritas were good . We had the tostones with guacamole for an appetizer. Wasn't crazy about them , they were dry and not much taste to them . They needed to have something to dip them in besides guacamole. We had the steak taquitos and they were good . My receipt says the margaritas were jumbo size but they were not and expensive at 11.00 each for as small as they were . read more
