My brother and I stopped in here for dinner and had a decent meal. The arepa he ordered was massive, filled with several types of meat, cheese, and cabbage. It looked delicious. I ordered a cheese arepa and was a little disappointed--it tasted good, but I would have liked it with something more than just cheese. Next time I would order differently. The restaurant itself did not have much ambiance--small tables along the wall, with condensation dripping from the AC unit above. The tables outside facing Beach Street were probably a better option. Having seen this place on a Food Network show, my wife and I decided to give them a try recently. The restaurant itself isn't much to speak of. It had a musty, humid smell upon walking in. You can opt to sit downstairs or walk up to the main dining, which includes an outdoor balcony (this is a long walk up). The place looks old and a little rundown. Now the food...my wife ordered the steak patacon and loved it. It was huge, meaty and tasty. I, on the other hand had the roast pork and rice (can't remember what it is called) and I asked for a soft egg on top. I found the pork to be dry, and the rest of the ingredients, including the rice and black beans, to be very bland. The cabbage was just that, plain cabbage. It could have used a little acid to break up the blandness of the dish. Unfortunately, too, my egg was overcooked, no runny yolk. I also had a beef empanada that, as you can tell from the picture, was swimming in grease. The texture of the empanada was fine and the beef was well seasoned, just too much grease. I used up most of the napkins on the table just to soak up all of the oil. The service too was a bit spotty. A pleasant young man running up and down the long stairs bringing food. It took a little while to get our meals. So, basically it's a split decision. My wife loved it and I did not. read more

If you have eaten Arepas before then don't go to Arepita Beach. They are poorly prepared, the pork and chicken is over cooked, very dry. The local is poorly cleaned and smells. I drove from Orlando to try it and it was a waste of time and gasoline. In my opinion, there has to be somewhere better to visit, but not here. I came into town for about a week and had a few friends with me. As the foodie in the group, I usually pick the places we eat at, and I always try and find someplace local that we can't always get at home. Vacation should be about trying new experiences, and that's exactly what Arepita Beach was for us. Luckily, it turned out to be a fantastic experience and we all enjoyed it so much we came back for lunch the next day just to try it again. I'll admit, I had never had an arepea before and had no idea what one was. I've learned over the years that when I experiment with new food, I had to admit that I'm a newbie sometimes, and that's just what I did when we walked in the door. The guy working behind the counter couldn't have been nicer and guided me to some suggestions. First off, an arepea is a type of food made from ground maize dough that originated from the northern region of South America in pre-Columbian times, and is notable in the cuisines of Colombia and Venezuela. It is usually served with a protein, cheese and vegetables. Here at Arepita Beach, they are taken hot off the grill and opened up like a pita and stuffed with whatever you choose. Needing help, I asked what was popular. I was told to try the Arepita Pabellon, which was are arepa filled with shredded beef, plantain, refried black beans and shredded white cheese. It came with a small side of a garlic-based sauce that I could have licked out of the 2 oz container with my tongue. Everything was fantastic! The guy at the counter took our order and invited us to sit upstairs on the patio and he would bring our food out to us. We headed upstairs and had a beautiful view overlooking the water. We all tried something different and everyone got quiet once our food arrived. After the first bite, we all exclaimed how much we liked the food and the rest of the meal was quiet except for a few "oh my gosh, this is delicious" comments. We liked our lunch so much that we had to come back the next day. Same guy behind the counter (thankfully!) and same great food. This time I went with the Arepita Beach and got it with shredded chicken and pork, cheese, tomatoes and cilantro. While it was delicious, I think I really liked the Pabellon better. I'm going to make sure I remember so I can get it again the next time I'm in town. In fact, because of Arepita Beach, I'll be looking for a Venezuelan place that serves arepeas closer to my hometown and will get something as close to the Pabellon as I can. Seriously delicious food. Seriously super sweet staff, and seriously awesome atmosphere. Make sure you add this to your list of places to visit while you're in town. Man.. What an awesome hole in the wall right near the Daytona Beach! I was driving through and got the Arepita Santa Rita with Chorizo. It was amazing! I've never had anything like it and would totally get it again, maybe with different meats. My friends loved the beef and chicken ones too. We also got the set of 5 Port Empanaditas to go so we could snack on them in the car. These were not so good. Granted, they were no longer hot, but it was a far cry from the amazing Arepita I had. I would not order these next time myself. We also got a strawberry smoothie that they really liked. Try the Arepitas! read more

When my husband and I travel we like to check out some Guy Fieri DDD restaurants because they tend to be pretty good. Arepita was no exception to this theory. I ordered a shredded beef empanada and it was very tasty. My husband ordered one of their specialty items recommended by the young man who waited on us (my apologies for not remembering what it was called). It was a massive taco-like sandwich (for reference, there is a picture of it on their menu) and my husband declared it delicious! About an hour after we left my husband realized he lost his wallet. When we called the restaurant, they confirmed it had fallen on the floor and they had it! So not only do they have great food, they are good and honest people as well! read more

Always looking to try new places, so I decided to pop in. I've passed by many times and it looked cute. The 4 of us walked in, excitedly, eager to sit on the upstairs balcony. We were told to wait for 5-10 minutes which we had no problem with because we knew the weather was bad and the balcony would be wet. We were standing where told, and soon rudely pushed aside by a worker going upstairs. Not to make this too long, we were the Teque Beach first. That was very good and THE BEST part of our meal. The Empanaditas were less than tasty and not the combination listed on the menu. The Arepa chorizos my husband had was dry and not tasty, either...and my fish and shrimp empanadas were dry and burnt. Also, $2.95 for 1 can of Sprite is OUTRAGEOUS! There was no customer service here, as once our food was delivered, we never saw our waitress again. I guess, since you have to pay upfront, there's no need to have good customer service. The view was nice, so they get 2 stars read more
