We were just looking for a quick bite, the "it's just a few hours before dinner but I need to eat…read moresomething now" sort of search, and decided to grab an empanada somewhere. Yelp said Donde Yurba was the top rated place in our proximity so off we went! We got (and ate in quick succession) two chicken empanadas and two bunuelos ... YUM! Just what we needed to hit the spot. The menu looks amazing as well so hope to come back soon for a full meal! (Also need to mention how absolutely sweet and kind the woman at the register was!)

The host later on gave us english menus, however, we were already invested in ordering in spanish, haha. So we got the tostones with like a guacamole dip which was excellent. It was fresh, flavorful and seasoned great. We also got empanadas chicken and beef. The chicken verison wasn't as impressive as the beef verison. Beef empanadas was hands down the best! Now the main meal I got had steak, Yuka, fried plantains and a salad. The steak was medium well, texture was soft and not tough, however, I had A7 Wagyu beef in Japan, so that has really distorted my tastebuds on steak. I would other than texture this particular steak was just steak. Now the highlight for me was the fried plantains that was prepared perfectly crispy outside with soft sweet inside. The Yuka was also prepared delicately and tasted amazingly. Lastly the side salad was fresh, crisp, and hit the spot. All in all the service was top notch, the hosts were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere shined as it seemed like local Colombian in the area would come to dine. If you near this place give it a try, and don't be taken back if you're handed the menu in spanish haha go with it!

Bohio Latin Flavors, Margate…read more Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine with a heavy emphasis on mofongo, and based on this visit, that's one of the reasons to come here. They offer numerous variations, with your choice of sauce and protein, making this one of the more mofongo-focused restaurants I've seen in Broward. We started with the shrimp mofongo. The plantain mound itself was moist, flavorful, and nicely seasoned, avoiding the dry, dense texture that plagues lesser versions. Ours came topped with a rich shrimp sauce, but other options included a garlic cream sauce and a Creole-style sauce, both of which looked excellent as they passed through the dining room. Of the dishes we tried, the mofongo was actually my favorite. The masitas de cerdo (fried pork chunks) were flavorful and well-seasoned, although they came out a bit drier than I would have preferred. I'd still order them again, but based on what I saw arriving at nearby tables, the pernil may be the move on a future visit. The rice deserves mention as well. The arroz con gandules was excellent, with plenty of flavor rather than simply serving as a side dish. They also offered moro rice in both red bean and black bean versions, which was nice to see. The Punta Cana cocktail was worth ordering. Sweet, tropical, and considerably stronger than it looked. The dining room is much larger than it appears from outside, but this is very much a casual neighborhood spot. It reminded me of the kind of local restaurant you'd find in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic: a large dining room, full bar, TVs on the wall, families gathering for dinner, and the emphasis squarely on the food rather than creating an upscale experience. There's also a stage and DJ setup for live entertainment. One note: service was slow on our Sunday evening visit. After speaking with the manager, I learned she was also the restaurant's only server and that a single cook was handling the kitchen while also keeping up with a steady stream of takeout orders. Given those realities, the pace made more sense. Everyone was friendly, but this isn't the place to visit if you're in a hurry. Both English and Spanish menus are available, although the primary server was clearly more comfortable interacting in Spanish. They also feature Latin music and a DJ on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, which is probably when the room really comes alive. If you're a fan of mofongo, pernil, arroz con gandules, or Dominican comfort food in general, Bohio is worth adding to your list.

This small Colombian cafe was in the center of an older plaza and took a chance. About half of the tables were occupied by customers and copped a quick peek at their latino style food which looked promising. The main display was full of pastries which included bonello, cookies, breads and small cakes. The golden brown bonellos (well priced at $2.00) were absolutely massive and decided to have one to split with the wife. The server advised that the cafe only serves Colombian drip coffee from a basic kettle, which she proudly pointed at (see pic). Based on this unforeseen depressing news, the mammoth bonello no longer seemed that spectacular. This was a first for me, a Colombian cafe that only serves drip coffee? Cmon. I took the bonello to my vehicle and took a few bites which were tasty, but rough on the swallows down. It would have been complemented perfectly with an espresso. On a good note, the gender neutral bathroom was clean with two-toned tiled flooring and a corian sink.

The food is delicious, fresh and authentic. My favorite part or this restaurant is their salsa and sauce station, where the guests can fill up their own little cups of salsas and spicy sauces to go, or to dine in. I had the steak meal, with rice, beans and sweet plantains, it was flavorful and everything was well seasoned. It's latin/Peruvian food. You get your food fast but I wouldn't consider it a fast-food restaurant if that makes sense. #1 thing that I've noticed is their consistency. Shrinkflation hasn't hit here yet. In my opinion you're getting the same Kg of meat, same size, cooked the same, same amount of seasoning, same temperature every time. The same cup of rice and the same semi-watery black beans. Trust me, it all pairs well with eachother. I love their sauce bar! I'm an onion guy and love the fact they offer sauces with a heavy amount of diced onions. Their mild and hot sauces add a creamy flavor with a touch of heat. 4 stars isn't being too nice or too stingy on a rating. You need to try this place, or one of their many locations. It's the exact hole in the wall you're looking for. I absolutely love this place and wouldn't change a thing. You can tell it's a local favorite as it's always crowded, both with dine in and take out. Prices went with the flow of the economy. It's crept up over the years but so has everything, can't complain about that. Overall, I certify that this place is great and you won't be disappointed if you like Latin food.
