Bohio Latin Flavors, Margate Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine with a heavy emphasis on mofongo, and based on this visit, that's one of the reasons to come here. They offer numerous variations, with your choice of sauce and protein, making this one of the more mofongo-focused restaurants I've seen in Broward. We started with the shrimp mofongo. The plantain mound itself was moist, flavorful, and nicely seasoned, avoiding the dry, dense texture that plagues lesser versions. Ours came topped with a rich shrimp sauce, but other options included a garlic cream sauce and a Creole-style sauce, both of which looked excellent as they passed through the dining room. Of the dishes we tried, the mofongo was actually my favorite. The masitas de cerdo (fried pork chunks) were flavorful and well-seasoned, although they came out a bit drier than I would have preferred. I'd still order them again, but based on what I saw arriving at nearby tables, the pernil may be the move on a future visit. The rice deserves mention as well. The arroz con gandules was excellent, with plenty of flavor rather than simply serving as a side dish. They also offered moro rice in both red bean and black bean versions, which was nice to see. The Punta Cana cocktail was worth ordering. Sweet, tropical, and considerably stronger than it looked. The dining room is much larger than it appears from outside, but this is very much a casual neighborhood spot. It reminded me of the kind of local restaurant you'd find in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic: a large dining room, full bar, TVs on the wall, families gathering for dinner, and the emphasis squarely on the food rather than creating an upscale experience. There's also a stage and DJ setup for live entertainment. One note: service was slow on our Sunday evening visit. After speaking with the manager, I learned she was also the restaurant's only server and that a single cook was handling the kitchen while also keeping up with a steady stream of takeout orders. Given those realities, the pace made more sense. Everyone was friendly, but this isn't the place to visit if you're in a hurry. Both English and Spanish menus are available, although the primary server was clearly more comfortable interacting in Spanish. They also feature Latin music and a DJ on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, which is probably when the room really comes alive. If you're a fan of mofongo, pernil, arroz con gandules, or Dominican comfort food in general, Bohio is worth adding to your list. read more

Great food we had 2 empanadas de yuca de carne and pollo. We then ordered rice, beans with pollo a la plancha and rice beans and carne guisado. Both had tostones. This must be one of the best Dominican food I had. Service was great very attentive. They also have great music when you come on. I will definitely come back. The food was good the service? Awful! The short round potato with the curly hair was wild to me. Orders our food at 8:03p. At 8:55 they tell my friend that they didn't have to churraso for her meal. The appetizer they told us 30 minutes after ordering they didn't have it. We had to wait. Time they delivered our food at 9:32p. Then refused to let us talk to a manager or offer a discount. One of the waitress's tried to help but that little short one with the curly hair was trying to demand we pay full price after acknowledging that our service took way too long. Me and my friend came here for a quick bite after a hard day of carrying furniture from one place to another. This has always been saved in my list of bookmarks because it has such great reviews. We ordered food from here for lunch at work. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and fries. This was one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've had. The fries were a little soggy by the time it got to us but that's understandable because we were kind of far. We stopped by on a random Friday night at around 12 am and they had a live Puerto Rican band. The kitchen was closed by then but bar and hookah was available. I really wanted to love this place, but I couldn't. I ordered for delivery with pure excitement that I found a Dominican restaurant near where I live. I am Dominican and I have high expectations for Dominican food. Food arrived neatly packaged with care. There were a mix of hits and misses amongst all of the food. My grilled chicken was just okay, lacking a bit of flavor and dry. Chicken soup was ok as well, nothing to rave about. I would say my two top favorites would be the fried cheese (you can't mess up cheese, that's easy) and the tostones. I would say they make tostones a bit different than the norm and it was not pressed flat, nor was it crispy. It was edible so therefore I ate it. The chicken empanada, had no filling or chicken inside at all, yes it was an empty empanada folks, first time I ever stumbled on this type of fail...see picture. Tres leches was good, it was a standard tres leches. I was not impressed, this restaurant failed to meet my expectations and was below average. It was 1 PM on a Saturday, and the restaurant wasn't busy. I was told they have live music late evening on the weekends. I will pay them a visit one this weekends. I had some Mofongo with Chicharrón, and avocado salad and a Presidente beer. Presentation and Flavors were good. Service was attentive and because it wasn't busy I was able to have a friendly conversation with our waitress. Prices were very reasonable. Inside is has a Caribbean vibe to it. It was at lunch time on Saturday and was very slow. Just us and another couple. Both girls we saw were very friendly and helpful. We had a couple of questions and they answered them no problem. I ordered a Sancocho de res. Which is a typical Dominican soup. I've had it a few times and it has always been thick, more of a stew, this one was clear liquid. Flavor was good, but I prefer it thick. Hubby had the mofongo with chicharron and he loved it.
