Bohio Latin Flavors, Margate Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine with a heavy emphasis on mofongo, and based on this visit, that's one of the reasons to come here. They offer numerous variations, with your choice of sauce and protein, making this one of the more mofongo-focused restaurants I've seen in Broward. We started with the shrimp mofongo. The plantain mound itself was moist, flavorful, and nicely seasoned, avoiding the dry, dense texture that plagues lesser versions. Ours came topped with a rich shrimp sauce, but other options included a garlic cream sauce and a Creole-style sauce, both of which looked excellent as they passed through the dining room. Of the dishes we tried, the mofongo was actually my favorite. The masitas de cerdo (fried pork chunks) were flavorful and well-seasoned, although they came out a bit drier than I would have preferred. I'd still order them again, but based on what I saw arriving at nearby tables, the pernil may be the move on a future visit. The rice deserves mention as well. The arroz con gandules was excellent, with plenty of flavor rather than simply serving as a side dish. They also offered moro rice in both red bean and black bean versions, which was nice to see. The Punta Cana cocktail was worth ordering. Sweet, tropical, and considerably stronger than it looked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room is much larger than it appears from outside, but this is very much a casual neighborhood spot. It reminded me of the kind of local restaurant you'd find in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic: a large dining room, full bar, TVs on the wall, families gathering for dinner, and the emphasis squarely on the food rather than creating an upscale experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's also a stage and DJ setup for live entertainment. One note: service was slow on our Sunday evening visit. After speaking with the manager, I learned she was also the restaurant's only server and that a single cook was handling the kitchen while also keeping up with a steady stream of takeout orders. Given those realities, the pace made more sense. Everyone was friendly, but this isn't the place to visit if you're in a hurry. Both English and Spanish menus are available, although the primary server was clearly more comfortable interacting in Spanish. The food was good the service? Awful! The short round potato with the curly hair was wild to me. Orders our food at 8:03p. At 8:55 they tell my friend that they didn't have to churraso for her meal. The appetizer they told us 30 minutes after ordering they didn't have it. We had to wait. Time they delivered our food at 9:32p. Then refused to let us talk to a manager or offer a discount. One of the waitress's tried to help but that little short one with the curly hair was trying to demand we pay full price after acknowledging that our service took way too long. Me and my friend came here for a quick bite after a hard day of carrying furniture from one place to another. This has always been saved in my list of bookmarks because it has such great reviews. I really wanted to love this place, but I couldn't. I ordered for delivery with pure excitement that I found a Dominican restaurant near where I live. I am Dominican and I have high expectations for Dominican food. Food arrived neatly packaged with care. I ordered: Grilled chicken, white rice, guandules, sweet plantains, tostones, fried cheese, chicken soup, two chicken empanadas and a tres leches. There were a mix of hits and misses amongst all of the food. My grilled chicken was just okay, lacking a bit of flavor and dry. Chicken soup was ok as well, nothing to rave about. I would say my two top favorites would be the fried cheese (you can't mess up cheese, that's easy) and the tostones. I would say they make tostones a bit different than the norm and it was not pressed flat, nor was it crispy. It was edible so therefore I ate it. The chicken empanada, had no filling or chicken inside at all, yes it was an empty empanada folks, first time I ever stumbled on this type of fail...see picture. Tres leches was good, it was a standard tres leches. I was not impressed, this restaurant failed to meet my expectations and was below average. This has never happened to me before because they package the food so well but Uber Eats ruined my dinner. Our favorite soup was spilled inside the bag...completely. I was in the mood for som Dominican cuisine. I came across Bohio Latin Flavor in Pompano. We were promptly shown to a table. The venue has simple and casual decor. It was 1 PM on a Saturday, and the restaurant wasn't busy. I was told they have live music late evening on the weekends. I will pay them a visit one this weekends. I had some Mofongo with Chicharrón, and avocado salad and a Presidente beer. Presentation and Flavors were good. Service was attentive and because it wasn't busy I was able to have a friendly conversation with our waitress. Prices were very reasonable. The hubs loved Colombian chicharron and here in South Florida you can get it in a lot of places, but Dominican restaurants are more rare. We had a couple of questions and they answered them no problem. I ordered a Sancocho de res. Which is a typical Dominican soup. I've had it a few times and it has always been thick, more of a stew, this one was clear liquid. Flavor was good, but I prefer it thick. Hubby had the mofongo with chicharron and he loved it. The reason this place earns 10 stars is that they served my mofongo to go with a container of flavorful broth which a lot of restaurants don't. AND I got limes on the side. Support this Great Dominican flavor! It's local, it's delicious and a great price! Decided to do pickup and tried out "Los 4 Golpes" which is a brunchy-type of meal that included mashed plantains with some onions on top for flavor, fried cheese (which is bomb!), salami, fried egg and the additional item they add for 4 golpes instead of 3 golpes is the Longaniza (which is just another sausage). I also saw they had a lunch special called Mr. Beans and its a great value for rice, beans, and choice of meat. I went with chicharrones and it was big enough to be about 3 to 4 meals for one person or 2 bug meals for 2 people. Super friendly service and I plan to return to try out their chimi sandwich.
