I have lived in Chicago for the past decade, but refuse to change banks because I love the service I get at RFCU. When I was first moving here, I went to the Rockland branch and explained I didn't want to get a new bank, but was concerned about the challenges of banking remotely (this was before the app). One of their member services people walked me through ways to mail them checks, gave me a bunch of envelopes and deposit slips, and added something to my account that lets me get up to $10 back a month in foreign ATM fees (because they're all foreign ATMs to me now). Their app came out a year or so later, and between that and the website, it's super easy now to do all my banking remotely. Every time I call with a question or concern and select the option I need from the menu, I get a real, live human to talk to immediately ... what big bank can say that? I'm sure you can't call them in the middle of the night with a question, but in 20 years with RFCU, I have not had to do that. (Although I HAVE gotten a phone call on a Sunday morning from the company they use to monitor fraud, because they detected unusual activity and realized someone had stolen my card number, so rest assured they have people keeping an eye on things even when branches aren't open.) They're always very helpful and nice whenever I need to contact them. Ex: I was recently involved in a charge dispute with a merchant. I started with PayPal, as the charge went through them via my RFCU card. After two-plus months of back and forth and PayPal generally being unhelpful, I emailed RFCU and explained I was running out of time in the 90-day dispute window and asked what to do. I got a phone call from Carrie in Card Services within hours of the email. She said for me to send RFCU all of my documentation and they would initiate the claim with MasterCard to get it in within the window. RFCU issued a provisional credit quickly and got the process rolling within a week -- night and day from my experience with PayPal. I hope I never need to change banks, because RFCU is the best. read more

After over 25 years with this bank, I am closing my accounts and leaving. The reason is that the past two times I have gone to cash checks, I have been accused of committing check fraud, communicated to me by screaming at me so loud that parties in the parking lot actually heard and checked if I was okay. I felt alarmed my personal banking information was also communicated through shouting to the point of other customers stepping in and telling the staff that this is my private information. I came in with a large scholarship check issued by Bank of America and was called a "fraud." The employees told me that they would watch me walk across the street to cash it at Bank of America and return with cash to prove I am not a "fraud." I reiterated that I do not feel safe walking across the street with a large amount of money in my pocket after they have been screaming my financial details loudly and everyone around knows I would be walking with a large sum of cash. I told them please give me my check back and immediately close my accounts and rather than giving it back to me they simply deposited it right then. I reported to managers and they assured me they would follow up with employees; I regret giving them another chance after this. A few weeks later a number of fraudulent charges appeared on my paypal account and I went in to report the activity. The manager wrote a bizzare document and asked me to sign it stating that I reported that I had consented to these charges but no longer wanted these subscriptions so I was acknowledging responsibility for them. I reiterated that I did not consent to these charges and this statement was not accurate. The manager stated that since i reported this to paypal and they did not refund my money that I am giving them the equivalent of a "legal notice" that proves I am responsible for these charges. Again voices were raised at me and I was called a "fraud." I reported to a senior manager and went to Weymouth branch and insisted upon a fair investigation. They conducted the investigation and confirmed that I was indeed the victim and not perpetrator of fraud. What concerns me is that not only is this bizarre and unprofessional but also creates a lot of risk for the bank and it's members. I have told the staff every time they have accused me of "fraud" to please follow their official fraud reporting procedures if they think so, and they decline to follow formal steps but rather continue yelling and causing chaos. If you are looking for a bank that supports you getting robbed in the Westgate Mall parking lot, having your identity stolen, and enduring out of state online scammers debiting your account, look no further. If this is not what you want, go elsewhere. Terminating this 25 year relationship. read more

Rockland Federal Credit Union is a heartless, inflexible business. I would not recommend working with them in any capacity. I am highly disappointed by the way I was treated on the phone today by one of their employees. As a non-profit founder in the area for 10 years, I expected more from a locally focused company. Paid off a car loan when buying new car.. They took an extra payment and dumped it into a savings account instead of applying it towards the new loan. Trying to call to straighten this out at all times of day for weeks on end. Always I am at least 32 calls deep in a waiting line to talk to someone. This is like an entire day! I waited 4 hours and just was able to get to caller 28! WTF!!! Tried moving the payment on line but still shows the money in my savings days later??? Whomever runs the customer service dept needs to be fired! read more

I wish I could give -Stars. Where do I begin? I've reloaded my Dunkin Donuts card 40x before the 41st is now considered "fraud" I've used cash app to pay a particular friend back for errands and favors hundreds of times with no problems and out of no where a transaction is declined cauze of , yup ...you've guessed it "fraud" . Well some can say the feature is a good one to have. A bank that has my bank. Sweeeeet. Do they though? This algorithm let's 100's of the same transaction go through before questioning the validity of the next. Well good thing these aren't fraud or I would have been drained before this bank catches on. It continues with purchases for mobil games. Again, 100's of purchases but all of a sudden my debit card is declined cause now you think "fraud" GTFOH Their customer service is non existent in terms of someone being able to fix these issues above. Everytime I have an issue I have to call and at this point, I am over it. I decided to keep my lease and I was FLOORED when they told me this bank was the lender. I have perfect credit and could have been any bank but nooooooooooooo, no no . I get stuck with this one. I opened this bank account 6 yrs ago when I moved to a city new to me. Being a credit union I assumed all good things . This was also done because of the convenience to go down the road to the supermarket they were in. Well , this bank has up and left that supermarket leaving behind a GENERIC ATM that kills you in fees. Like make it make sense Rockland Federal Credit Union. Please. I refinanced my house 2 times before the economy went to hell and not ONE time did I consider this bank. Not once did I even use as a comparison for other banks. My mortgage has been bought and sold 4x since buying this house. IF this bank buys my mortgage at any point , I will be convinced this life is all about paying back karma from my previous because this has to be the worst bank I've ever dealt with and I've only dealt with 1 other to bank with. You'd think I'd close the account but with the stupid car loan, it is easy to pay on the app ( which is a POS that force closes , freezes and never loads correctly but hey ,I think my review has spoken enough) read more

RFCU has been my bank for as long as I've lived in Rockland (over 30 years). They serviced my mortgage as well as my personal checking and savings. They are always helpful, friendly, and offer great service. My entire family utilizes Rockland Federal Credit Union for their banking needs. read more

RFCU can no longer pride themself on fulfiing thier mission statement because across the board, thtoughout all departments they DO NOT PROVIDE MEMBERS WITH QUALITY SERVICES, IN A RESPONSIBLE. EFFICIENT, PROFESSIONAL AND CONVENIENT MANNER. I had a total loss of my vehicle with a GAP Insurance Policy because RFCU's inept loan/insurance department did not produce a proper loan payment history GAP did not pay the car loan in full. Nearly a year later they sent me a threatening charge off letter, giving me nearly 2 weeks to figure it out with GAP! I spent nearly 6 hours on hold, on the phone, emailimg, leaving voicemails with the most RIUDE, inefficient, unprofessional people trying to fix something that was RFCU'S RESPONSIBILITY IN THE 1ST PLACE! This review is for their online loan payment portal only. I have an auto loan with RFCU. They have two different portals, one for online banking and a different site for loan payments. When I sign into my loan payment account there is ZERO information about the loan. The only detail you can view online is how much you owe for the monthly payment and a place online to change the amount and/or your bank. There's zero options to find out the date of the loan, the term of the loan, the interest rate, the current balance. There's absolutely nothing online that provides info about the loan. Do they have any engineers on staff? This is an awful customer interface. read more

Terrible bank that doesn't support their customers under the world's worst pandemic. The bank I use to make payments was down and unbeknownst to me sent over my online payment as a check which took twice as long to arrive. The result was Rockland immediately sending the credit bureaus the late payment notice, giving no grace period or even considering that 10 million lost their jobs in April. Being this was out of my control, since I had never made a late payment prior and because there is a pandemic happening, I had hoped that like many other financial institutions Rockland would forgive the late payment under these circumstances. SADLY, THEY HAVE NOT and instead tell me to speak to the credit bureaus who have no direct authority to remove the late payment notice. I have been a customer for 4 years and never paid late, even while still being unemployed for 7 months. I will never use this bank again and would never recommend such cold-hearted customer service to anyone in my community. read more

I have been unable to simple get someone to ANSWER the phone. I called to pay off my $39K loan, which I did three days ago. And it did not get done! So, I am AGAIN on hold trying to get this resolved. NO ONE answer the phone and I a stuck on hold for 40 minutes??? So I called collects, AND bingo, someone answer right away, trying to do anything else, and you let on hold for 30 minutes at least. I am looking forward to being DONE with this terrible bank! read more

As others have mentioned, very archaic in the way they do business. They will not allow me to update my address over the phone and I cannot make a payment easily online. This sums them up: I was in my car and called to get my account number as I was driving to the dealership to potentially sell the vehicle I had a loan on. They would not give me my account number over the phone for 'privacy reasons' (SS#, privacy questions did not help apparently). The woman on the phone told me if I were to FAX my signature to her, they could verify it was me and fax back my account number. This place needs to get with the times. Pathetic. read more

I am really surprised to see so many negative reviews but I'm happy to say I have never had any of the negative experiences others describe. As a fairly new customer all of my interactions with the bank have been through their online banking website, which I found incredibly easy to use. Their online bill pay is user-friendly and makes the crap task of paying bills (and tracking past payments) as painless as possible. They also reimburse ATM charges (I believe its up to $10 a month) incurred by using other machines, which is a fantastic service. I try to use other machines as infrequently as possible, but that perk is greatly appreciated. I have also never had to put up with the fees and charges other banks seem to tack on every month. I am definitely a happy customer and its nice to support a local community bank in the process! read more

My ONLY option is to stop by their bank to pay which for anyone who has a job during the day, this is IMPOSSIBLE OR to pay via online through MY bank but they will charge me if it doesn't get there in time. I've had the worse experience with this branch regarding an unauthorized hard credit inquiry made by them & showed on my credit report. Since July (over 2 months) I've been going back & forth with the Collections Dept. at this bank to have this credit inquiry removed from my credit report! I've been talking to Monica in Collections & her manager (a male employee, can't remember his name). It's almost October & I am still waiting for a formal written letter that I contacted them & that this credit inquiry was not authorized by me & nothing! I had tentatively submitted a credit application at a dealership, and clearly made it known to this dealership that they were NOT to pull my credit report until I discussed negotiation on the price of the vehicle & this dealership ignored my request NOT to pull my report until the owner dropped the price of the vehicle! To make a long story short after I submitted emails & everything I had as evidence to this bank so they could contact the credit bureaus to have this hard inquiry removed they never helped or moved a finger even though they said they did. I called Experian myself & they never heard from Rockland like the manager & the associate Monica said! So frustrating dealing with something that this bank makes so complicated when a call & a letter could resolve this whole issue! (This review is crossposted on Google as well! People should know what they are dealing with before getting into business with a bank that doesn't move a finger to help everyday people who keep them in business!) read more

Rude customer service rep. Called at 12:35pm on 10/26/16. I've received a letter saying that I can pay my loan online, so I went to their mobile site on my phone. Only option to their mobile site was to login or sign up for login. So I clicked sign up but wasn't able to register due to no member #. Called them to ask what my member number was and the lady basically attacked me with "what's the purpose of you needing one then?". I already told you that I'm trying to pay my loan. Maybe the welcome letter that Rockland bank sent me should have been more clear. There's no need to yell at a customer who's trying to repay a loan. She needs to be fired or retired. Clearly she's not happy. Can't believe that I even thought about opening up am account here because it's a local bank. read more

I fell behind on my payments and after four months, I came to them to make a payment of roughly $1,000 to bring the account current and they refuse to let me make the payment unless it's $5,000 to please upper management. I'm furious and find it appalling that they are turning down my payment unless it brings it current plus 18 months read more

I've had an auto loan through Rockland Federal for nearly 2 years. Up until recently they were good, however I was in a car accident and totaled my car. The insurance company was quick at getting through all they needed to on their end, but Rockland held up the process by not getting the insurance company the one document they needed. Despite both the insurance and myself contacting them regularly. Luckily, the company found a way around to get the document, but the whole ordeal delayed the loan getting paid off. The outstanding balance still hasn't been paid off and the bank is being unhelpful. I would not recommend getting an auto loan through RFCU, even though the interest rate was good. read more

I've used this bank for years with no problems but the last few years , they have really gone downhill, especially with customer service. The tellers are confused and consistently give bad information. The last time I was in making a transaction, the teller insisted it was a custodial account instead of a joint savings & checking. Last month I wanted to make a split payment to the car loan, paying extra to the principal. I was told anything over and above always goes right to the principal. I asked for a receipt or statement and was told I would see it on my next statement. Their standard policy is to just add any additional money directly to the principal. However, when the statement came, all they did was advance the due dates so they could continue to collect all the interest. They refused to correct the problem. read more

I have been a life-long memeber of RFCU since I was a little girl and my parents opened a joint account for me with gift money received from my First Communion (lol, that they drained before I was old enough to realize it..). But I digress.. I lived in Hanover most of my life and the tellers like Laurie and Kim were lovely and the old managers John and Beverly were all incredibly nice. The tellers are still very nice there but the branch manager less so. I started going to the Marshfield branch and both the tellers and managers are lovely.. In terms of managers, Karen and Jack are incredibly helpful and warm and try to help out customers. I recently came into some hard times and overdrafted a considerable amount and was hit with a decent amount of fees (my fault) and they worked with me in reversing some of them. The branch exemplifies why people prefer small banks and credit unions over big banks...it is the customer service and human touch! read more

I think that it's crazy that they charge $5 online bill pay and $8 over the phone. It's 2017 and everything is going paperless. This option needs to change I rather refinance my loan and go else where. Also customer service is extremely poor over the phone. read more

I've been with them for years and have always been happy. However, I recently applied for a mortgage and the whole process was sloppy. Need one thing one day and something else the next. It was just painful. One day it was "You're approved. No worries..." then the next day it was "Well..... do you have this" and I'd produce it. I should note that I'm a 20+ year homeowner with a 730 and no defaults. I was putting 30+ percent down. A few days before the bank commitment letter was required, they added even more documentation to assemble. It was all the typical stuff but why wait till the night before? Needless to say, many sleepless nights. When I finally told them I went to another lender (cc'ing the head of lending) I got a "how unfortunate..." note. Nothing from the head of the department as a customer service step. It was pretty disappointing. Everything else with them has been great. Thank God another lender was available or I'd have lost the house and my deposit. Used a mortgage broker in Norwell. read more

The Marshfield & Hanover branch were convenient when we moved to Humarock in 2002, so it was convenience that drew us. Plus, we have always been a fan of credit unions. I was a bit worried about access when we moved to Carver, but the Plymouth branch soon moved to Colony Place - which was the most convenient of all!. I have also been using their on-line banking tools for years, and it keeps me organized, so I don't miss payments. The employees are friendly, they are helpful, the hours are great...and I love, love, love the fact that I can go to ANY ATM...and then have fees reversed out! I think this is because I get direct deposit. It's also quick and easy to make transfers to other banks, for the kids that are attending school out of state. RFCU's customer service is a disgrace. According to CreditUnionsOnline they are the 3rd largest credit union in Massachusetts with over 1 billion in assets. Run as far as you can from RFCU! I had been with RFCU for several years. Had, being the operative word. Incident #1: I spotted fraudulent transactions pending post on my account. So, I contacted RFCU member services who told me to wait for the transactions to post... in order to later dispute OR he told me that I should Google the company's information and contact the company myself to ask them to stop the transaction. Again, the transactions were FRAUDULENT. Was the member representative serious? Yes, he was. About 20 minutes after that conversation ended with RFCU... a third party agency, Fraud Prevention, called me directly to alert me of the same transactions I had just reported directly to RFCU. The third party agency did their job and immediately refused the transactions once I again confirmed the transactions were indeed fraudulent. Right after that call with Fraud Prevention I made a complaint directly to RFCU about the manager and the member representative who both told me I must wait for fraudulent transactions to post in order to later dispute. And, RFCU put a flag on my account to alert their representatives of me. Thereafter, anyone from a branch or over the phone had a preconceived demeanor with me. Incident #2: The following month, another incident occurred, when an employee in card services hung up on me when I inquired about ATM issues. Naturally, I made yet another complaint. Incident #3: A couple days after that, I again contacted card services and was connected with the same unprofessional women who had previously hung up on me. I told her I did not want to speak with her. She refused to connect me with another colleague. We engaged in unnecessary back and forth about why she had hung up on me and she said "whatever" to me. So what did I do? Closed my accounts that same damn day and moved my money elsewhere. BEST decision I ever made. There are too many banks/credit unions on this earth (let alone in this region) to subject oneself to such nonsense of ridiculous, unprofessional, and rude people at RFCU. One positive note, when my issues were escalated to a manager (at my own request). The situations were reluctantly resolved. But again, they put a flag on my account so the preconceived demeanor was evident. I recommend you go to one of the other 180 credit unions available in Massachusetts! read more
