Since we had just had an intense rain storm a few evenings prior and knowing the Arizona sun takes a toll on roofs, I was interested and set up an appointment for two days from the date of the call. The next day, I received a call from Elliot C. saying he was available within a few hours and could look at my roof that day instead of the next day when the appointment was originally scheduled. When he arrived, I told him that I would like to pay for the roof myself and not involve the insurance company as I did not want to submit a claim but to keep that option open. His demeanor changed immediately. He said he would take a look at the roof, take some pictures then let me know what he found. He went up on the roof and was down in a few minutes. He said there was wind damage, 1/2" hail damage and some heat bubbling of the asphalt shingles. This is all true since I saw it myself a few days prior when I was working on a vent. He said he was really busy that night but that I should get something from him the next day. He seemed like he couldn't leave fast enough for some reason. I never received anything from him. It's just interesting to me that they did not want my business despite the fact that I was ready to pay cash for the job. Perhaps there was some angle with the insurance company and the way the claims are submitted and how they receive payments which changed their mind about doing the job.

I opted to have Reyes Roofing remove my old roof (2 layers of asphalt shingles) and reinstall a new…read moreroof. I have a single story house roughly 1800 square feet, apparently the rough was double in sq/ft of what my actual floor plan. My list of contractors that quoted me was approximately 10, some responded quickly, others not so much - the criteria I used to select those ten were as followed: 1) Registrar of Contractors (AZ ROC) in good standing with no previous or pending complaints, 2) A member of the BBB of AZ - also with no pending or previous complaints, 3) More than 5 years in the roofing industry as listed by AZ ROC, 4) listed by either Certainteed or Malarkey Roofing materials as a contractor for residential installations - the two shingle manufacturers I choose as suitable materials. Ultimately most of the bids were very close; ranging from 16,000 - 12,000 dollars to complete the job. Reyes Roofing was my choice for several reasons; 1) simple and precise contract (some contracts had added fees - first layer of roof included, second layer would be billed at a per sq/ft basis, etc, etc), 2) the length of guarantee on workmanship - many contracts only quoted a guarantee/warranty on labor/workmanship of one year (something I felt was a palsy sum since the two types of roofing are "lifetime warranty" architectural laminated shingles (laymen terms multi-tab 30 year shingle) {Reyes offers 10 years as part of the quote}, and 3) Price. I was not disappointed, my quote was exact, included taxes, fees, and there was no limitations or expressed loop-holes that other quotes I had received had. Scheduling was simple, albeit not on my part - I had specific requests to prevent messing with my work schedule that other bidders did not promise any type of possibility to adhere to. Removal of the two layers of roof was relatively simple, all and any debris that fell on the ground was picked up at the end of each work day. Installation was just as simple, they took roughly two and a half days - first day removal, second day completed removal and applied roof to about 75% complete, third day completion and removal of trailer full of debris. Contact was simple, any calls were answered promptly, and the only one time I left a message, it was returned in a timely manner. Knowing now what I know and if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't hesitate to choose Reyes Roofing.

They have always been fair with their prices and prompt with their service. This time we were working with a 30 year old roof. Over the 13 years we've owned the home we've had a few repairs and patches. This time Oliver said he could repair the one section that was leaking and reattach the tiles that had fallen of the peaks for $1500 or replace the whole roof for $12000. 6 years ago I had a quote from another contractor for $16000. I wanted the complete roof because we are going to put solar on the roof and the last thing you need is incremental repairs where they need to remove and replace panels. The issue with Porter is they are busy. Very busy. So we had to wait 3 months for them to get to our roof. The winter rains delayed the date an extra month but once they got us on the schedule they showed up every day for 3 days solid and did an excellent job. How do I know. Because I watched them work for several hours over the three days. They replaced wood where it needed it and did an excellent job replacing all the flashing. They cleaned up every day and when they left on day three, other than seeing the new flashing and straight edges on the tiles you'd never know they were here. When I told Oliver we were putting up solar panels he said after they were up to let him know and he would inspect the roof for cracked tiles and the places where they secure the racks to make sure his roof would last. He would also come out once a year and make sure there were no problems or fix them before they became a problem. I strongly recommend using Porter Roofing even after you read the one star reviews.

Funny/not funny story: I was actually going to go with another roofing company for my house but the owner pretty much ghosted me after I decided to go with him. After emailing and calling with no response, I looked at the state contractor's website under his contractor number to find out his license had expired because he hadn't paid his fees! So, it worked out for the best that we went with ReVamp instead. Everyone was very professional and courteous. The job was done at the specified time frames and they were quick to come out and look at something I thought might be an issue after the job was done. I received a call back in less than an hour after submitting my request for a quotation. That was very impressive. I believe I got an inspection visit the very next day. The quotation was also received within a day, and on a Saturday at that! Dai Zayas, who I presume is their office person, was very professional and courteous and replied to every one of my inquiries be it by telephone or email. I know that a courteous, professional and maybe even a happy person should be normal for front line people answering telephones or replying to email, but that unfortunately today is not the case. But Dai was all that and more! Ruben was the person who came out and inspected the project. He too was very professional and courteous. He inspected the problem area, took several pictures, which he then showed me on his tablet. It was nice to be able to see where the problem was and learn what could be done to remedy the issue. Ruben's quote offered two options; one a perfectly acceptable "fix" with a warranty, and a second larger scale option that really was more to let me know what it would cost should they discover more damage underneath the shingles as they began the repair. Essentially, the second/larger option spelled out the worst-case scenario, so I would not be surprised after-the-fact. I found this to be very considerate and again, unfortunately not a business practice you will find very often today! However, Ruben was very confident all I would need performed was the "fix" proposal. That turned out to be the case. Ruben, if you are one of the lead people at Revamp, you are setting a great example! Devin, the young man who came out to do the work was yet again, very professional and courteous (are you starting to see a theme here). He spent time prior to starting the work explaining what he planned to do, then upon completion, re-explained what he had done. He also took pictures and showed me every aspect of the work completed. I know I am harping on these types of points, but I just don't encounter enough young people doing their jobs today that act like Devin. He honestly seemed thrilled to be doing what he was doing to earn a living and it came across. I wish more young people would act this way. Nice job Devin! The price was significantly less than the two other bids. I am not the type person who always picks the cheapest price because as the old saying goes, sometimes you get what you pay for! However, between all the 5-star reviews here on Yelp, plus how responsive and courteous both Dai and Ruben were before I agreed to hire them and then Devin on the job, it was an easy choice. Another small point on the prices quoted - and I may be off base here - but as a Scottsdale resident I sometimes feel I get the "Scottsdale" quote from contractors. My home is pretty modest and old and essentially the type structure you would find anywhere in the valley. However, I think that when a Scottsdale address is associated to a bid request, for some reason contractors think they can extract a little bit more. I didn't feel that was the case with Revamp. In closing, I sense that Revamp spends time training people how to act professionally and finding the type people who are trainable. Nice work Revamp - keep it up and you will be around a long time. Melvin came out on time and spent almost a hour looking at my roof he took pictures and showed me that the problem was from the way the roof was installed and even recommended I call the builder to see if they would fix it.
