DO NOT HIRE ARIZONA ROOFING SYSTEMS! CAN YOU GIVE ZERO STARS? I hired them to put on a new roof and walk-out deck. What a DISASTER! They have shoddy workmanship, billing practices, contractual obligations, and poor customer support - AND PERFORMED UNLICENSED WORK! On April 9, 2024, I contracted Arizona Roofing Systems Inc. (ARS) for a new roof and walkout deck repair for $25,500. //DECK// Mr. Smith (ARS owner) holds only a CR42 license from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) https://roc.az.gov which is a basic roofer's license that limits him to tasks like laying plywood and applying coatings. He is not licensed to perform, evaluate, or repair structural framing. He is not licensed to perform stucco repair. Upon learning of this, I halted the work on the deck. However, Mr. Smith's team installed "sister joists" on the framing which was in violation of his licensing. A licensed professional evaluated his work, and of no surprise, found it to be installed incorrectly compromising the structural integrity of the deck. His team also "repaired" the stucco they damaged which is also in violation of his license. A stucco professional said it must be completely redone. The decking 'weep screed' was missing and the coating misapplied, the only items they are licensed to do has to be ripped out and redone. Additionally, his team put their foot through the deck, twice, and which resulted in two large holes in the patio ceiling. I was not informed of this, and they tried to repair those holes, which they are unlicensed to do, and they must be redone by a professional. //ROOF// Poor workmanship resulted in having the roof repaired, and much of the work redone. The shoddy work is too extensive to list here but can be found in the attached summary and timeline. It includes incorrectly applied mortar, tile gaps, vent screens not replaced, roof jacks, sloppy point, missing underlayment, etc. While a release has been signed, this has been reported to the ROC and hope others do not go through this. We recently had Arizona Roofing repair a leak on our tile roof. The finished product looked great according to the before and after pictures. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their communication was less than optimal. We repeatedly had to call them to find out where our service person was[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat at home all day on the day we were promised. They didn't show. The other contractors I contacted for estimates immediately pressured me to redo the entire roof, claiming the leaks were too extensive to be fixed. Last week I noticed some broken roof tiles in our front yard and contacted several roofing repair companies for assistance. Arizona Roofing Systems got back to me promptly, and we arranged for a technician to inspect our roof. Todd came over this morning, assessed the situation, and surprisingly informed me that the damage was actually on my neighbor's roof, not ours. Stay away from this company! My biggest fear has come true. When researching roofing companies, I read horror stories about people having leak issues after replacing their roof. I'm now living one of those horror stories. We discovered this weekend that we have black mold in my daughter's room, which means it's been leaking for a while. Called a disaster recovery company to investigate. They found moisture in the walls. I called this company as they offered a ten year warranty after installation telling them we discovered a leak and I was worried about all the rain coming this week. I was pleased they sent a couple guys out fairly quickly. They found a hole in the mortar at a peak near the leak area and some cracks along tiles that butt to the house. They sealed those and left. Never went up on the second level to check anything. Later that day, I get another call from them saying they want to send out a supervisor. He came out yesterday and found another "couple concerning areas", including a big crack in the stucco up by the roofline. We have lived in this house for twenty years prior to replacing the roof and never had any major leaks. The second guy says they won't be able to get somebody out to fix it until the weather clears up. NICE! So two different people from this company have admitted to shoddy work by them. So they know there is a leak and they do nothing to fix it when they know a huge storm is coming! Not even a tarp. I just read their warranty and it says they aren't liable for damage from a leak. What the heck?!? I'm so disgusted with this whole experience and wish I could wake up from this nightmare. read more

It was no easy feat for me to find a trustworthy, quality roofing company. I tried to get in touch with the one I used on my old house in 2016 but I don't know if they're still in business as they didn't answer the phone nor could I leave a message with the mailbox full. I sent out multiple Yelp inquiries to several companies and this one was the first to respond. This company was the most appealing to me out of the other ones with it's good reviews and friendly customer service team. Their estimator Todd was able to come out the same afternoon. I was on edge all day with the damage stressing me out and I really appreciated how Todd was so friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough he was during the inspection. I spent some time with him outside while he was inspecting and he took the time to explain to me what he was seeing and answered all of my questions. What sold me before the visit was over was that he cared enough to carry his clipboard with him to take notes, took pictures, and came inside my home to see how the damage from the outside was affecting the inside. I had different roofer come out before him and did none of this with the visit ending after 10 minutes. Todd's visit took about 30 minutes. He was able to confirm the same details as the other roofer and provided so much more information. At the end of the visit, Todd wrote out an invoice with the details of the job and quoted me a price I could live with to my relief. The different roofer wanted to replace only half of the roof and leave the other half alone as it was still in good condition. Different roofer also said that he doesn't work with foam and there was some damage that occurred in the areas where the foam was. Todd's proposal only needed to have my roof resealed, a couple of broken shingles replaced, and all the holes left by birds patched up. They had no limitations on the materials to work with, including foam. I was able to save thousands of dollars in unnecessary work and get ALL of the damaged areas repaired thanks to him and ARS. Now that the repair is done and payment taken, I wanted to leave my thoughts. There were some hiccups that prevented me from rating a perfect 5 stars but those hiccups were quickly rectified to my satisfaction. You can rest easy with choosing this company. I won't hesitate on calling them again for future projects. read more

I had a piece of flashing covering a vent blow off the roof. I called Arizona Roofing Systems in Mesa. I had previously used Arizona Roofing Systems and their customer service and workmanship is unmatched. Josh returned my call that same day and had a crew out the next day. The crew arrived promptly, replaced the vent flashing, and painted it to match the roof. While on the roof the crew noticed another vent that was loose and secured it at no additional cost. My wife and I woke up one more and observed water dripping from a recessed light. After giving ARS a call I was able to speak with the owner Josh. He asked me questions and then scheduled a time to come out. He quickly identified the problem and didn't try to sell me on repairs I didn't need. Josh followed up with his office and had his scheduling team contact me to setup a time for service. When his guys showed up they were professional, knowledgeable, and quickly went to work. They took photos of the issue which they wanted to confirm aligned with the work order. After showing me the photos the two workers made the repairs. Then, showed me photos of the completed repairs. My wife and I have been Zonies for almost 20 years now. At least two of the things we learned over those years were Arizona roofs are different and home contractors (in general) can't be trusted. It's sad to say, really, really sad, but a quick search on tha AZ Contractors Registration Site will show you thousands upon thousands of unregistred and scamming contractors that have been caught in the act. And thats not to show you those that have yet to be uncovered. So, with that consideration in mind, we did some research and found Arizona Roofing Systems to be highly recommended, licensed, and free of complaints. And to top it off they are on The Home Depot list of 'suggested' roofing contractors in our part of the East Valley. That does not mean they work for the HD, or even use HD products; but they are referred by HD and HD keeps track of their record. A big plus! Just like YELP! So far, they answered the inquiry quickly, showed up for the estimate exactly on time looking and sounding like a professional contractor. Todd (the estimator) answered all the questions properly and (with a huge consideration for sticker shock on our part) gave a fair estimate and a logical starting time. So, as a long ago retired east coast roofer myself (from an era when ladders were made of wood) and an avid YELPER........we will certainly keep you all posted on how the job goes. From estimated starting time to actual starting time to finish time, helpers, cleanup and quality of work. K? So far..........we are impressed ..2nd report: They were actually one week ahead of their promised arrival schedule. That was a big plus because we are getting the house painted on the inside and we wanted to repair the ceiling ( from a leak) before the painters came. I learned about Arizona Roofing Systems from PEP Solar and am I glad I did! I needed a new roof before my solar panels could be installed and it was great having them to do the job. Most competitive of all my 5 other bids! But best of all they did a great job! These guys sent their two man team over a day early in February and didn't notify me in advance of the change in the schedule. These two guys didn't come back the next morning to finish their job and left a pile of tiles, debris and other trash on the roof. I had to call Josh Smith and have them send the guys back over the finish the job. Once they were "done", imagine my surprise when I found a pretty big stack if about 30 or more roofing tiles on one side of my house that they unilaterally decided not to put back on my roof. If they needed unbroken tiles, all they had to do was ask, as I had stacks of them that I found from the tile boneyard in my garage. But most of these tiles are not broken. I didn't get a satisfactory answer for why they weren't on the roof where they came from. Although the asphalt torch roll was applied as per the contract, the guys damaged my two air conditioning systems when they pried up the two units on their support structures with crowbars and bent dents into the curved galvanized elbows which were custom made for my AC installations (I saw this happening when I went outside to observe their progress). When I changed my air filters once it got hot in April, roofing debris fell on me and that is when I realized that both of my AC systems had been opened to the outside by their crew. One of the units sits directly above the return air duct and the filter below. They had patched everything up with roofing tar (which was already cracked and splitting) and slapped some sort of metal tape into the tar, and then applied a white substance over the tape. All of these things had to be addressed by my AC service technicians when I had my two units taken apart, inspected, serviced and the new ductwork cleaned. My units are still new, having been replaced after the hail storm of 2010, and the ductwork for both systems was been totally replaced in 2015.
