Organized co-ed adult league kickball is very, very popular right now (and has been the past four…read moreor five years) in the young adult communities in many cities as both a social scene and also as a new recreational activity. WAKA (World Adult Kickball Association) seems to be the most popular kickball league in Atlanta, though it's getting some stiff competition lately from Go Kickball. WAKA games are played at Hammond Park near Perimeter Mall (In the Sandy Springs / Dunwoody area) and at Piedmont Park in Midtown. Occasionally other league game play locations become an additional option (Candler Park, Coan Park, or Marcus Center). Park play venues and days of the week that games are played are denoted by Divisions (Thrasher, Lightning, Liberty etc) You can register as an individual (free agent) and they will place you on a team. You can also sign up with 15 or so friends and create your own team. Fees vary, but generally run between 65 to 75 dollars for an eight week season. For your money, in addition to organized game play, you get a tee shirt and 2-3 season parties (typically at the league bar). The fee finances 2 or three parties at the league bar (where all the teams gather for after-game socializing, drinking and eating). League members also get discounts at the league bar on certain beverages and food items (but you often have to ask your server or bartender). Said discounts are only good on game day (rain or shine) even if games get canceled due to bad weather conditions. There are similarities and differences when comparing WAKA with Go Kickball. Both organizations have the "Kickball Culture" thing going which I will attempt to describe. Both are dominated by young professional types, mostly single, in their mid twenties to early thirties. You will find a small percentage are folks just out of college and, even fewer, some folks in their mid to late thirties; however, they make up an even smaller percentage. Many married / engaged / otherwise involved couples will also play on teams with or without their single comrades. Some describe the culture as akin to people re-living their frat / sorority days. The culture is also similar to the Hash Hound Harriers in that imbibing (before, during and after game play) is prevalent. Also similar to HHH , team names often have sexual innuendo in them (Multiple Scorgasms, Big Red Balls, My Couch Pulls Out But I Don't, ..Etc). There seems to be a fair amount of hooking up or coupling going on (among the singles who play kickball mainly to meet significant others) but with the numbers game of 60% guys and 40% women, the women have the clear advantage in that area. The most attractive and aggressive men generally have the advantage in beating the odds. WAKA generally has better parties but is more clique heavy / insular; whereas, Go Kickball generally (but not necessarily) has better, or more lively, after game socializing at the league bar. Go Kickball perhaps has more play venue / park choice options with leagues at Piedmont Park (Midtown), Central City Park (Downtown) , Cobb Park (Smyrna), Lynwood Park (Brookhaven) and ?Park (Kennesaw). If you are new to Atlanta (or any city where kickball is offered through one of the two organizations) Kickball is great way to meet new friends. Since most people have not played the game since grade school / middle school, everyone is starting out on a relatively level playing field. Soccer players definitely have an advantage from an offensive weapon standpoint.

Waka games are played in Candler Park, located just south of Little Five Points. You can register a team or as an individual and they will place you on a team. The thing I really love about it is the variety in activities and workouts you can do here. I am a former wrestler and football player so, my workouts go from weight room to mats and I can do that all in one building here. There is a rock wall, racquetball court, mat room, dance floor, spin room, basketball court , and all the above! Oh did I forget the pool and sauna? Seriously, they have EVERYTHING. Another thing I truly love about this place is the attentive staff and the ample space. Of course they use student employees, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with with this staff! They are knowledgeable and attentive so you never feel lost in the huge space here. Speaking of space , this place also is a great size. Even at peak times you never feel like your standing over anyone in the weight room or track! There are about 8 courts in the basketball gym so everyone can run games at the same time! Overall this place s just Awesome! 5 Stars!

First, this is not so much a review of foundations, but rather with CADENCE…read more regarding Foundations, The teachers are wonderful, especially Ms Sarah and Ms Demi, who are fantastic. The facilities are great, and so is the quality of education they provide. As far as the school goes, I give it a 5 put of 5. That said, recently they have been acquired by a company called cadence. Since then your kid will get sent home for the slightest reason. If they have a fever then it's mandatory three days out instead of 24. For some things it's 5 days. Nor will they accept results of a negative Covid test. Cadence's ridiculous policies puts a tremendous amount of strain on working parents that unfortunately offsets many of the great aspects of the school. In Cadence's defense they will refund some of your tuition back if your child is out for a long time.

The elementary program for this school is less than adequate. We are leaving foundations after my…read moreson's kindergarten year and are working diligently to get him to where we think he needs to be academically. I don't know if that is attributed to the program or the teacher; I know I am not the only parent coming out of this year that feels this way. They test the students on subjects they simply don't teach. And if they do - I hardly saw evidence. The communication with my son's teacher was lackluster at best. During a parent teacher conference, I asked a simple question about reading materials, and she completely shut down. She couldn't answer what the kids use to assist in reading, as I quickly discovered my son hadn't learned anything and needed to know how best to supplement at home. When I asked what materials they use, she stopped talking, put her hands in her lap, and looked down for a good minute. It was truly disturbing. it was as if someone unplugged her. My husband and I were very confused. Communication over day-to-day activities was also lackluster. One Friday, my son dropped his entire lunch (that we provided), and they did nothing to get him anything else to eat. Not even a cracker. Nor was it communicated to me that this had happened. I waited until Monday to ask if he had actually dropped his food, and his teacher did confirm it and told me she looked for some food for him, but 'nobody had any', which is odd considering the school has a chef. Another day I walked up to the playground to see my son eating leaves off the ground. A typical kid thing to do, but his teacher had no idea. Why? Well, I asked what she did when they were outside - in Discovery Park - a pretty heavily wooded area. My son told me she remained at the picnic table for most of their outside time. Then, after he ate a berry off the ground - I emailed again, looping in the program director. I was surprised that they had a berry-producing tree (that the students had full access to); I was told then that 'Obviously, a teacher cannot supervise each and everything all children do while in our care.' Considering there were 10 students, and usually an assistant on the playground with the teacher. I was shocked. One day I got to school early, poor timing on my part; not wanting to interrupt his playtime with friends, I waited in the parking lot where I saw that his teacher indeed sat at the picnic table. She didn't get up once in about a 40 minute period. She sat facing the parking lot, away from the wooded area. This also explained why my son came home with scratches all over his body, with no explanation. The school set some pretty impressive standards for covid, which, to be honest, is why we enrolled him. Those precautions went right out the window; I'd say a month or two into the program. As parents, we weren't informed of this. I know of one event that happened a WEEK into the program that was explicitly against their self-imposed covid protocols. Any time I tried to express my disappointment, or frustration I was met with justification. These are our experiences, and I can imagine that if I receive any response, it will invalidate the things we experienced and justify behaviors. To be honest, I was reluctant to even post this as a review as I feel like in my gut, somehow it could come back on my son. We paid good money for this program, and to come out of it having sent him to daycare his kindergarten year, I'm sure any parent can imagine both the disappointment and the resentment that we feel.

This playground is accessible to most of midtown and the surrounding areas by foot driving with ample street parking is also a good option. On a quiet street in a quaint neighborhood makes this playground too notch. There is also a small grain trail behind the park in case the 72 slide runs do's not sufficiently tucker you tot out. The park is almost completely empty around the common lunch hrs but picks up again around 430-5pm and has some kids playing before noon. Overall this is not exactly a destination park but it's close and does serve the area very well.
