I came here to play tennis with a friend and it was my 1st time utilizing this park. The park is descent. Lots of parking, a large playground and many baseball and softball courts. There are 4 tennis courts that have automatic lights at night! They are numbered 1-4 starting at the last court on the left. You do have to make a reservation so keep that in mind. The day we visited, we were assigned court 3. I couldn't locate the numbers and later realized they are at the bottom corner of each court. Somebody was on our court but we simply remained on our court since nobody ever showed up. Not a big deal but I have seen scenarios where this can go wrong! Here for other stuff but I explored the park and got in a decent walk to work off some of my breakfast. This large park used to be a black community in the late 1800s but was acquired by the County under eminent domain from 1945 and onwards. Today, the park is baseball and tennis and some walking on the varied terrain. A bunch of folks were walking dogs in addition to the sports playing. There is ample parking but I would imagine that if there's a big game the Buckhead baseball field, that probably becomes an issue. This review only reflects the tennis court side of the park. If you ever visit Frankie Allen Park, you'll experience ample parking spaces, tons of trees, and that warm and fuzzy feeling of being on hustling-bustling Peachtree Road one second to a some manicured suburbia park the next. You'll also experience really long waits for tennis courts, cracked courts, nets that are falling apart, and gates that don't fully close allowing your wild balls to end up outside the court or in another court. And if you think that you're going to play into the night, think again, because the lights on the courts are inoperable. These tennis courts are some of the most poorly-maintained public courts I've seen in Atlanta. I've called the City of Atlanta, but they don't seem to care. Most of the people that use these courts have no tennis etiquette. There's a group that goes every day, and they hog a court for upwards of 3 hours. We've also witnessed a tennis team of 10 people taking over 2 courts for lessons for nearly 2 hours. Beyond them, there are many regulars that have no concern for the 8-people waiting for courts, and will chit chat at the net or take extended breaks. The key is to arrive at the courts about a half an hour before you really want to play. The main positives and the reason for 2 stars, is that Frankie Allen Park is in a pretty central location to most people. Also, since there are 4 courts here (not just 2 or 3), even if there is a wait it is likely to go faster than at some of the other courts nearby. read more

So, I'm glistening. From lunch in the park. I had the idea to surprise my sweet man with lunch today - usually he takes me out but that makes it too easy to turn my hour-long lunch break into much longer - and I wanted to do something nice for him. We've known each other for a long time and had many meals together over the years, pre-dating, so I know what he likes. We've had most meals together in the past few weeks as we conveniently work a block apart, so even with other plans it has been easy to meet at whatever time of day or type of meal. But since I'm loving the new job and being diligent, I don't indulge time-wise much at work (we clock in and out) and thought of the idea of a picnic. Initially I suggested a car picnic but when he picked me up we almost mutually agreed that a table sounded much better and Frankie Allen was right down the street! Perfect. I've been here many times since I was a little girl- for my brother's Little League and buying Big League Chew at the concession stand - or more recently with dogs or kids or what have you. It was odd today, we thought, that the gate was closed at the entrance you can normally drive through to get to the back tables. So, we picked a spot under the roofed area with picnic tables and I unloaded our spread. The only other folks there were a couple of people working on the grass and a guy with his kid hitting balls on the baseball field. Perfect. It was So. Nice. I love going to restaurants and all that jazz (of course! I'm a Yelper!) but it was just so . . . pleasant to have a meal all by ourselves, that I put together. Prosciutto, good cheese, asparagus (I steamed that up in the office right before we departed), baguette, strawberries, champagne . . . that's a good lunch. This might be my favorite eating-out-destination of late, so to speak. Try it. Have a picnic. You just might fall in love. read more

They really keep up the baseball diamonds here, but they aren't even open to the public in a public park. They don't give a care in the world about the tennis courts. They courts are old, bumpy, and half the lights are out. All of the crap they waste our tax money on, but neglect stuff that would actually be useful. The 4 tennis courts are in a great, clean community that his highly taxed, but all of the money goes solely into maintaining the baseball diamonds. It's really a crying shame. The tennis courts are also always taken by trainers who use our public courts to run their own private businesses. We've called the city about a million times, but no one seems to care. read more

This park is ok. Positives: Restrooms: There are restrooms, that are decently maintained... sometimes (see negatives below). Lights: There are lights on these courts, which is unusual for public parks... sometimes (see negatives below). Price: free! Yippee. First come, first served. Which is great... sometimes (see negatives below) Negatives: Restrooms: Restrooms are only open seasonally, basically when there are softball games Lights: Lights haven't been coming on early enough and half of the court's lights are out. There has been a workorder placed with the city for months. No changes yet. Price: Free is still awesome. Only issue is that if you don't get there early enough, you may not be able to play... usually someone finishes playing within 30 min, but with the pros (which are not supposed to be allowed to teach there), you really never know. Overall, I would suggest playing here during the day, don't bother here at night. Just not worth it... read more

Frankie Allen is a nice little tucked-away park where all of Buckhead's kids play baseball. Given the neighborhood, the baseball fields are all beautiful, with nice green grass and evenly swept dirt. Some of the fields even have covered seating, and the biggest among them has a Green Monster-esque wall in left field. The park also has four or five tennis courts, which are available to the public to use. read more

These four stars for the tennis courts, they are in great condition, and it seems that they get some maintenance works recently . People who are fan of tennis game and live in the area should check the courts,hit some balls and enjoy the game. The park also has baseball and football fields , but i haven't check those but it seems they are good too. The park also good for walking as well as relaxing during the lunch break. read more

There was a bald eagle flying above his beat. Kayakers down below had beached themselves on a sandbar in the middle of the river. A guitarist was jamming and kids were playing in the Sun. Just a picture perfect place to relax and take in the sites.

Today's hike at Sweetwater exceeded my expectations in every way! The weather was giving spring…read morevibes and the people were out for it ! Initially we parked in the wrong lot but that worked in our favor (where the bait and tackle shop is). There were lots of families out having picnics and fishing. We did a 1-mile loop in the area and were able to see the yurts. NOTED . Beautiful sites to take in before we ventured to the main lots with the visitor's center. Not only are the trails well marked, but there is ample parking across multiple lots. The attendant at the gate entrance was so kind, welcoming and JOYful! We ventured out on the red trail and it was gorgeous. To my surprise, the trail was full today. It seems that Sweetwater is a populated date spot!!! We saw folks of all ages out with picnic baskets, journals, coloring books, bathing suits ... it was AMAZING! We hiked to the end of the red trail and back, venturing off trail to be clear to the River only once. By far, this was one of my favorite hikes and definitely a place I'll revisit to explore some of the other trails.

If traveling westboard towards downtown, take exit 60 (US 23, Moreland Avenue). This low key neighborhood, sandwiched between Grant Park and East Atlanta Village, is sort of "hidden." I think if you asked the average metro Atlantan if they've heard of Glenwood Park, they'd probably say no. Glenwood Park opened the same year as Midtown's Atlantic Station. Like Atlantic Station, Glenwood Park is all about urban and sustainable living. Unlike Atlantic Station, Glenwood Park isn't big. It's relatively small at just under 30 acres in total size. It's a lot quieter and isn't as commercialized. The property feels more residential than anything with quiet streets and wide sidewalks with nicely manicured lawns. After about a decade of existence, the development still looks great. There's a park/greenspace with a picturesque pond and a beautiful fountain. The community collects almost two-million gallons of its own well water per year in order to irrigate the park and street trees. There's a community garden where residents can reserve plots filled with high quality, organic soil. There's a dog park, playground, and neighborhood pool. One courtyard features a little stone fountain and full-sized bocce ball court. The layout was designed with pedestrians in mind, though there's plenty of free street parking and parking lots located on the development. It's clean and feels safe. The Atlanta BeltLine runs through the neighborhood in a north-south line. Food-lovers probably know Glenwood Park because of its restaurants, Gunshow, The Shed at Glenwood, and Vickery's Bar & Grill. Local celebrity chef Kevin Gillespie opened Gunshow in 2013 with fellow chefs Andreas Muller and Joey Ward. It may very well be *the* best restaurant in Atlanta. I'm not sure how to review a neighborhood but it shouldn't be too hard. This place is great -…read morebungalow style houses, flats, condos, townhomes and great neighbors. There are a handful of retail businesses on the south end of the neighborhood that we frequent and the usual smattering of intown amenities - proximity to downtown, Virginia Highland, Starlight Six Drive-In. You get the point. Since moving here in 2009 we have made so many good friends and really love where we live. There's a community garden, a pool/gym and a dedicated dog park free to residents (as of this writing). A brownfield redevelopment and product of Green Street properties, GWP is home to the 2005 Southern Living Idea House. Many of the homes are distinct in design, presentation and vary in style but all still flow together. Most lots are very small but we managed to eke out a wonderful front flower garden and transform the triangle shaped garden in the back into a treed and flowered sanctuary. We tried our hand at gardening in the community garden but the summer Atlanta sun and invasive weeds had us handily beat by mid July. In October each year, the Hotoberfest beer festival is held in and around the main park (now Brewer Park) drawing a few thousand people to the neighborhood. Less exciting but nearly as big a draw (maybe stretching here) is the annual garage sale. A handful of movies have been filmed here including the Blind Side and Hall Pass as is part of the Real Housewives of Atlanta (one of them lives here as of this writing). Like other neighborhoods that started mid real estate boom but not finished before the bang, there are empty lots, foreclosures and short sales. The last builder to get going has long ago gone out of business and a few independent developers have put up new homes but it remains to be seen if the original vision of Green Street and the first residents will be fulfilled. However, this remains a one-of-a-kind neighborhood south of I-20 and a great alternative to the stunning but prohibitively expensive homes in Morningside, Virginia Highland and the handful of other established intown neighborhoods. Being so close to everything available in Atlanta has spoiled us for going to festivals (Inman Park, Dogwood, Summerfest, Shade), the drive in and so much good food + drink in walking distance (you hear me $2 PBR at ten places I can walk to). The EAV and Grant Park are both short walks and great neighborhoods in and of themselves. The Zoo and Turner field are less than 3 miles away as are dozens of the best restaurants in Atlanta. The beltline trailhead is just across I-20 so you can walk off all the beer and carbs. Definitely kid friendly, we've seen at least six newborns arrive since we moved here. The little ones have a playground, a music class and no shortage of friends to grow up with. We will be adding our own in February 2012 so we're planning on being in Glenwood Park for the foreseeable future.

This one is nestled in the east side of Piedmont park, accessible by a short walk through some lower traffic entrances. If there is space, park in the neighborhood bisected by Park Drive NE. You can walk through the gate, curve around the lake, and you're there. The pool overlooks the lake, a prime location indeed. Piedmont has a similar relationship to Atlanta that say Central park has to NYC. It's a large, grassy space that everyone loves, and you can see the city looming in the background. The entrance to the pool itself reflects demand; on our afternoon visit, we had to wait a bit for other visitors to leave - they have a hard cap on the crowd size. At 11:00 on a Saturday, they were charging non-members a sweet five bucks. Anyway, the pool is really, really nice. The layout is such that you can do adult things if you like (laps, whatever), or you can entertain your kids if you need to do that. The child friendly features are abundant, including a splashpad and a lazy river. Mine really dig all of that stuff. Shady areas are abundant and you can chill on a nearby grassy area with your blanket or whatever. There is no diving board (no deep end either), but what public pool has one of those anymore? Lockers are abundant and things are generally clean. What's not to like? Also, shout out to Sean's, a very capable snack bar.

Parents can deop their kid off for a class and everyone is happily discovering their artsy self. The offer language classes and piano lessons as well. The theme is giving and avenue to express creativity with no pressures. I was so pleased to learn they have camps for when schools out as well as host parties. Most of the teachers have been there a while with professional experience and a love of art with patience which promotes creativity at reasonable prices. I'm grateful for their flexibility because when the rain caused a delay it was really good of them to offer my daughter a shared private lesson where she was able to connect with another young person who shared her interests in art. That was really amazing to witness two young people on the same artistic wavelength getting lost in their lesson. My daughter plans to return and we recommend this place to anyone who has a child who loves arts.

It took me a while to find a mobile play lounge that had all the stuff i wanted in a package and was local. Topplin' Tots wasn't local but I did pay a travel fee which was so worth it! I'm so glad we went with them as the set up and take down was so easy, i wasn't involved in any way lol. Interaction with the owner was seamless and pain-free from first interaction to take down which was completed without our involvement. We just left the gate open for access and closed when we realized they left. As someone who loves to be in control of everything, that says a lot! I was busy doing the most minute last stuff and wasn't even home for most of the party but i was able to witness the kiddies and my daughter enjoy the play lounge. The ballpit was a HUGE hit! If you ever book them(which i highly recommend if you can't tell already), definitely get a package with the ball pit or add on as they have that option! FYI: The pictures are of package B/2.

Attended a one year olds birthday party and I must say that I was very fabulous. As I make my way…read morethrough the clubhouse, I see what looks similar to another well known play arena for toddlers. I was immediately floored and impressed at the setup and the ability to have said items traveled. Everything was clean and perfect for little babies to older toddlers. I let my 8.5 month old daughter play in the ball pit and ride (sit on) what was similar to a horse. She loved it. So did it. Very likely I'll rent this for her 1st bday.
