I couldn't afford this amount and had to cancel the surgery. They still demanded that I pay for the pre-surgery exam, which I was billed for AFTER the exam, as is normal. No way! I filed a small claims court complaint, and they then admitted their wrongdoing and settled with me out of court. Very greedy and unethical behavior. Legally, patients are not required to pre-pay for medical procedures, but the company did not disclose this. Avoid Scott Frankel and OrthoArizona!

That same doctor also did a small finger DIP fusion to eliminate the severe arthritis pain.....well pain is worse than ever. I met with Dr. Frankel on January 18 of 2024 and showed him the x-rays and reports from the other surgeon. He said the fusion itself looked like it healed well and the pain I was feeling was the arthritis in the joint below (PIP). He examined both wrists and said to give them about 3 more months of healing as it seems like it is the scar tissue. Anyway, nothing was done at that meeting but I felt very confident with him and will follow up in 3 months if I am still having a problem.

I didn't know what it was at the time or how to deal with the pain. My primary doctor recommended I see a spine specialist and begin physical therapy. I had heard about DISC on our local sports radio and from a friend that had been here before. Desert Institute for Spine Care is the leader in minimally invasive spinal surgeries. Everyone has been nice so far and informative about my situation and what to expect. My journey is still at the beginning for me. I am starting out with the least invasive options for myself like physical therapy and spinal injections to help manage my pain. Unfortunately, I do have a complaint. I had left knee pain, which felt like a torn meniscus. My biggest fear was not being able to travel to my niece's wedding in May. I had torn my right meniscus a year ago, so I knew what it felt like. He suspected it was arthritis until after he gave me a shot, and then noticed pain when he tried to move my knee. He sent me for a MRI. He called me to tell me the results were arthritis. I got a copy of the MRI, and it was torn meniscus. It was listed on the second page of the report, so I assumed maybe he didn't see the second page. He wrote an order for PT for knee pain. I called to ask to talk to him to inquire of any restrictions or limitations with PT exercises as it was a torn meniscus. He never called back. I researched exercises on my own and remembered ones I did last year in PT, and began doing them on my own about a month ago. About 1 week ago, I finally was able to walk my dogs again around the block without pain. I am also happy to say that I am going to my niece's wedding out of state next weekend. I am sorry to give a poor review, and am hoping it was just over site on his part. I assume he is typically a good physician as all other reviews I have read on multiple sites were so good.

The guy has attitude but I'm thinking if I were that good I'd have attitude too. BTW...a little industry insight...the salespeople who sell the hardware that is used for these procedures go into the operating room with docs from all over the state. They were clear about the risks of the surgery and the range of possible results. My surgery went off without a hitch, my recovery was shockingly easy (I was up and about and taking care of myself the next day!) and the follow-up X-rays confirmed the success of the surgery. It is now a year later everything is great and I have a cool scar on my neck. I could not have been happier with the entire experience.
