I've used The Ark and other local vets over the past almost four decades in Kerrville. The pandemic era and the vet lockdown (among other critical services) resulted in an out-of-control feline population explosion in Kerr County - and my golf course neighborhood received an extraordinary number of abandoned pregnant and unaltered reproductive cats. Local animal lovers acted, with the help of our own resources and Big Fix, to trap and find homes for cats - or at least commit to feeding the hopelessly feral cats. The Ark was a superb player in dealing with the reproductive young felines. I had excellent experiences with the too many cats I brought into The Ark - no complications, good post-surgical outcomes. I feed many Big Fix bonded feral litters done by The Ark as they pass their second or third birthdays. They're healthy and past being spooked by the human surgery required for their survival. On 9/17 our cat was attacked by dogs. We called every vet clinic in Kerrville. The Ark was the only vet clinic that didn't refer us to a different clinic via voicemail. Their voicemail says" if it is an emergency leave a voicemail and we will return your call ASAP. " We left a voicemail about 10pm with details that our cat was attacked by dogs and we believed she had air under her skin." Which lead us to believe it was a punctured lung. We waited, while calling other vet clinics in the surrounding area. We ended up going to Boerne and had to euthanize due to a punctured lung. Here is the bad part on their end. They did not return our call until 12:30pm the next day. They admitted to not even knowing when we called and used the wrong name. (Which I know can happen but was just careless) Then offered the see her the next day 9/19 as a drop off between 8am-10am. So they were okay with leaving an animal in extreme pain. When we tried to quickly return their call to let them know we didn't require their services anymore. We discovered they close at 12:30pm on Wednesdays, which lead us to believe they intentionally called us as they were closing. If they do not offer emergency services, then they should make it clear on their voicemail set up. Staff needs to be trained on what is a priority and gather proper information before calling clients. read more

I cannot thank Dr. Bennett enough for helping me and my chicken for MONTHS. My chicken gradually lost her lower beak/jaw and Dr. Bennett graciously cleaned the necrotic tissue for weeks and showed me how to tube feed her. Her time has come when the entire bottom jaw was no longer. Doc has saved many of my animals but I never really voiced how much I appreciated him until now. I brought in a 6 week old stray kitten that I found who was a little out of it but getting stronger every day, she was eating, walking around loving on me and getting really healthy. I dropped her off and picked up a cold, half dead kitten, they said she was poisoned and to give her another syringe full of charcoal. This dropper was full and they already gave her another in the morning. She had 5 seizures since picking her up, she had one last seizure and passed away a few hours after picking her up. when reading if it was to much charcoal on the internet that is a side effect of an overdose, it said not to go over 1/2 a teaspoon for kittens... don't bring your pets here!!! read more

I will never forgive myself for bringing my dog here. Misinterpreted my dog as spoiled and neurotic, kept calling him a "titty baby." My dog was in PAIN and SCARED. I agreed to a dental, and it was the worst decision of my life. He removed one of my dogs canine teeth with very little anesthesia. I've picked up dogs from dentals before: they spend the rest of the day groggy. No, I picked my dog up, and he was very awake, agitated, and barking. My dog got worse and worse over the next 48 hours, and I had to have him put down at another vet's office. This man is very kind and folksy. He puts you at ease. Do not be fooled. Absolutely ridiculous. Took my dog in for $175 teeth cleaning , which I thought was a good price , came out with $45 teeth half cleaned. Done. Doc said Dooley was so good he didn't have to use gas and knock him out. Well he obviously lifted up his big ol lips and cleaned the k9s. If he had done the job we agreed upon and not just what he felt the dog needed cuz it's just a damn dog , he would have knocked Dooley out , noticed the buildup in the back half of his mouth , done what he said the rest of the veterinarian community wants him to do and actually clean my dogs teeth. I got my values worth , but wasted my time and energy. Got nothing out of the trip until I made an ass out of myself trying to get answers. Does not return phone calls, gave incorrect information about a medication(asked if it came in a liquid form, it does, but the quick answer was no it doesn't.). If I could give this vet clinic no stars I would. The quality of care at this clinic is beyond neglectful and harmful and the clinic is filthy. My ex-husband took our co-custody dog into this clinic on Monday morning. He was not feeling well and generally acting poorly. My ex did not realize that I use Kerrville Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Richard Grafe and Dr David Cardwell...both vets are above excellent. Anyway, all that being said, my ex's boss had recommended Dr. Joel Bennett, because if he was unable to pay the vet bill he would do that for my ex. The diagnosis was a twisted gut...and required surgery. Dr Bennett explained that this was not a serious surgery---wrong, this is a complex surgery and because our dog was a Boston Terrier, a brachycephalic canine, the surgery and anesthesia would make it a complex surgery....so right off the bat this vet is an idiot. That afternoon I called to check on our elderly dog and the rude receptionist told me he was fine and could be picked up on Tuesday afternoon. I requested that the vet call me back as I had some questions. Never returned my phone call. The next day was Tuesday and I decided to call before I left for work to make sure I could pick him up that afternoon. The vet tech answered the phone...who was totally clueless. Could not talk to me because he did not have his notes in front of him. He did inform me that a rescue group had paid the bill and no one had informed neither me or my ex about that. (I think that is strange!). It was a rescue group from Harper, Texas and apparently had volunteered to pay the bill. While I am grateful for the bill being paid, I feel this was VERY strange and unexplainable and no info was given so that I could call and thank them or send a donation. But I digress....back to the phone call... All questions that I asked were relayed to Dr. Bennett, who would not get on the phone but did promise to call me back. I waited around all day, took the day off work, and never received a call from Dr. Bennett. My ex finally found a phone number for the rescue group and she informed my ex that the dog had passed. He was above and beyond devestation when he called and told me. I WENT UP TO THE CLINIC AND DEMANDED ANSWERS. Not only did I not get any answers, but again the relay game was played and Dr. Bennett refused to come out and talk to me...at least to give me answers about what had happened. Did he die in surgery, did he die after surgery, what in the H#$% happened to my dog....did they give him away.... Now, to clarify, because he was a flat faced dog and he was an older dog, I understand that anything could have happened....but to not be able to talk to the vet, the person responsible for my dog while in his place of business, to not show his face, to relay messages back and forth, and NEVER call me or my ex to tell us the dog had passed is beyond good vet practices, a respected clinic this is not, and more importantly totally irresponsible for their lack of care for our beloved pet. A friend of mine, who has shown and bred dogs for close to 48 years and is familiar with the vets in this town, had been out of town at a dog show and I immediately called her and the first thing she said to me was what a nightmare Dr. Bennett is and his reputation is deplorable. This veterinarian should have his license revoked and not allowed to touch any pet in the future. I have to tell you about what happened to me when I took 2 young male cats to this vet to be neutered. When I went to pick them up, each one in their own carrier, I was handed one & the other was carried to my car by the tech. They were both SOAKING WET FROM HEAD TO TAIL AND SCREAMING VERY LOUDLY. I was in such shock that I can't remember what he said to me when I asked, "Why are they screaming and soaking wet?" I mean, they were so wet, it was as if they were dunked in a tank of water. All I could think of was getting them home and drying them off & holding them, loving them. I was so frantic I almost ran a red light; it took me the better part of half an hour to get home. They screamed the whole time. I got home, took them in the house and proceeded to dry them off, hold them, caress them & try my best to help them calm down. That was over a year ago. I went back to ask what happened. I was screamed at by the woman clerk that I didn't have to come here anymore. I told her, I hadn't been back since that time. I just wanted to know how my cats got soaking wet & why they were screaming. I will never forget that trip home. And the way this vet clinic staff person screamed at me and was very insulting. I will obviously never go to this vet, even if he were the only one in town. I would travel elsewhere. I am just sorry I took them because, even though it's been over a year, Freddy & Harry are still apprehensive when I come close to them. They were abused, I'm thinking, because of their fear of humans. I am making great progress, They let me pet them but are still not sure. I apologize to them every day for taking them to this vet. Joel Bennett has been our veterinarian for over 25 years. In that time he has treated our pets with great care and sensitivity. He and his staff are always at the top of their game. One of our dachshunds, Rusty, had lost the use of his back legs. Dr. Bennett formulated a plan, used the K-laser on him and after 10 weeks, Rusty was walking and running again. Dachshunds are prone to back problems and we have another dog that lost the use of her legs. He came to our home to pick her up and arranged her surgery in San Antonio. The quality of care here is just awful. After my animal had surgery I stopped by to find the clinic closed at lunch and no one there with the post surgical animals. When I approached Dr Bennett about it he dismissed me as if I was stupid to even be concerned. I have since used other vets in Kerrville and found them excellent so there's really no reason to ever bring your pet here if you care about them. read more

On a friend's recommendation, we decided to have our sick puppy put to sleep at home. We pre-paid for the visit to which Dr. Bennett never showed up for or called. We had to leave 2 messages at the office before the receptionist called. She said that Dr. Bennett got lost, only to find out later he was a street over from us. We live in town...really feel in this age of smart phones and internet more could have been done. Even a phone call would have been nice. They did refund our money, but really disappointed in the lack of care during this emotional time with our pet. read more

Due to my pets timetable, I had to pick up his meds today. I also wanted to return food my pet would not eat. After making a trip to the office, I was sickened by the odor. The young girl greeted me with rudeness and appeared to be too busy to help me. I tried to communicate my concerns and take care of my transaction.
