Customer service was great they answered my questions and guided me in the right direction for my garden

If you're looking for a Landscape Consultant, DON'T go to Armstrong Garden Center on Goldenwest at Slater. I hired their consultant for $300 for 2-hours. It turns out you get one hour for them to come out and look and the other hour for them to determine what plants you need back at their office. This person is part-time, working only on Fridays and Saturdays. She came out on Friday afternoon and looked at the front planter and front walkway and made recommendations. I told her my landscaper was going to be planting one week later on Saturday and that I wanted plants that looked good and were appropriate for the different light conditions. I told her if you don't have them in stock, I am willing to wait. She called me on Saturday, the day after her visit, and said she had pulled plants and they were on a cart waiting for me to approve. I went there on Sunday, her day off, and out of a $900 order she pulled, I kept about $100 worth of plants, or 13 plants total; 6 Lantana, 6 Coleus, and 1 small olive bush. There was no list of alternative plants if I didn't like these, nor was there any list of plants she recommended on our walkthrough. The ones she had selected were absolutely awful and would not have made a cohesive display of colors and types. It was a mish-mash of whatever they had in stock. I went back the following Saturday and met with the consultant and told her I was very disappointed in how the plan turned out and requested a refund of the $300 fee. She said I would have to talk to her manager who was unavailable. I returned the following day and told him I felt that I had wasted $300, proper plants were not selected or recommended and I ended up having to go shop for plants on my own at multiple nurseries to find something suitable. He said he thought she fulfilled her obligation and the best he could do was give me a 30% discount on about $100 worth of plants. So, just wanted to let you know out there, that I WOULD NOT recommend Armstrong AT ALL for landscape consultation. read more

I came to the park for a walk and it turns out this shop is a great pit stop! I'm stopped in in the middle of my walk to buy a plant or two and they walk with me. Great selection of plants at affordable prices. I do wish they had more selection of string pearls when I went they was one sad looking one and I haven't seen a a new one since. Parking is plenty. Again great stop when visiting the area. read more

Spring in Huntington Beach is unmatched. I recently visited Armstrong Garden after obsessessing over the idea of edible flowers. You know the ones you find in cocktails or on top of cute pastries? My goal was to spruce up a few dishes with florals for my besties birthday brunch. Armstrong had such an incredible selection of plants and plant related goodies. Any plant enthusiast would be excited to stroll their large patio of outdoor plants and flowers. I also greatly appreciate their team's knowledge and willingness to help with any project. One team member kindly refused to let me purchase flowers to eat based off a Chatgbt prompt. Instead, she redirected me to a number of options that she was positive weren't poisonous - my friends thank you. Our home is officially tapped out of plant space, but I'll be returning here the next time I'm on the market. read more

Nice knowledgeable staff. Went there to get lavender Sage plant, native to southern california weather. Also wanted to get milkweed to feed my butterfly. Associate at the store was very knowledgeable, she told me milkweeds are not for painted lady butterfly.its only for Monarch butterfly. read more

Came here for the first time today looking for a plant for our front space. The nursery is beautiful, clean and well maintained. Also dog friendly. Asked for some help and ended up being helped by Keith. Very knowledgeable and kind. He let us know about their very lax return policy if the plant doesn't make it and offered to come up with a game plan for a new plant specifically for our space if it doesn't work out. I take a trip or two to Armstrong every year at planting time. I love to wander the aisles trying to figure out what herbs, veggies, and flowers I want to plant. They always have a great selection. read more

Good place to look a round for garden plants and supplies. Supplies and plants are limited, but from the staff inventory come in through out the week. Only 2 cashier when we were here on Sunday. Not sure how many during regular days. read more

I was in hold forever for the NB beach store and after 20 minutes hung up and called the HB store. I had just left there and knew they didn't have what I was looking for but asked if they could check the other stores inventory . The sales person said he could do a special order which was helpful to me saved me gas from driving all over town to find it . So whenever he finds it I'll be getting my Cuphea in the size I want yay !!!!! read more

The staff here is so nice and helpful! I'm a beginning gardner (read: I have no idea what I'm doing) and the staff here has always been very patient and helpful, explaining what I'll need step by step and offering to help me diagnose problems with my plants. I recently came in after receiving a beautiful new pot for Christmas and I wanted to put a fun plant in it that was dog safe. Sara helped me find the perfect plant that wouldn't be too hard to take care of, was safe for my dog, and still fun looking. She was patient as I asked her a million questions and didn't hover over me when I said I'd have to think about things or look through options she had shown me. She was always close by so I could bombard her with more queries but I never felt pressured. In the end, I ended up getting a nice mandarin spider plant (which I didn't see as an option at the Sakioka nursery or Lowe's) and some funky purple moss (again - didn't see this anywhere else). This will definitely be my go-to garden place from now on. I really appreciate the staff not making me feel stupid as a beginner and taking the time to walk me through what is probably a very mundane project for them but is a huge undertaking for me. I got help from Goft today at on Gilbert Ave and Kattela Ave. I waited around 45 minutes but it wasnt bad. Goft came to help me, he is so nice and change my car's tire really fast. There is one thing that I feel uncomfortable that I dont have cash on hand to tip him. I really want to tip him because I can see how was the day on his face. I really appreciated him!! read more

REVIEW ON VISIT DATED JUNE 4, 2022 I came to visit this branch with my family after eating at VOX KITCHEN about an hour before closing. The staff has no sense of good customer service. I passed by a male staff ( White American, the only male staff I saw at that time) and said hi but no response or no recognition to my greeting. I picked all the plants I wanted to buy, and they were all in the cart ready to be paid. There was a lady in front of me returning a rose vine being helped by a lady cashier. There was also a man returning a patio rose tree being helped by that same male staff who snobbed me. I was the only one waiting to be helped. I waited and waited. The male cashier finished helping the man. He stepped out and returned the patio rose tree by the front of the gate and watered it. The female cashier let the female customer go walk out there in the ground to look for a replacement rose tree. The manager and the female cashier were just talking and not recognizing I have been waiting. There was no eye contact from them and treated me like I wasn't there waiting to be helped. I left the cart and walked out. The group of staff working in this branch on JUNE 4, 2022 should not be working in customer service area. They don't know what customer service is. They don't know how to treat customers the appropriate way. You have to be nice, with a smile and recognize customers. I hate to assume they must hate their jobs. They just don't care because they are almost closing. They probably prefer certain customers or certain group of people. Really, I don't know what to think. I have been to many Armstrong Garden Center and was never treated the way the staff here treated me. I am disappointed and will never go back to this one. I am doing this review so other gardeners like me would know how customers are treated in this Armstrong Garden Center branch. read more

I placed an order for some indoor plants to be delivered to our company 2 weeks ago for an event we were having. I've recently developed an obsession with plants and have been visiting various nurseries in the area. I've driven by this place many times and never noticed it was a nursery! Both the exterior and interior were neatly organized. There was a large variety of plants, which all looked healthy and well-maintained. There was also a good selection of pots and other plant-related things. I left empty-handed but will definitely be back when I finally decide what kind of plant I want to add to my growing green family. read more

DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH REPOTTING YOUR PLANTS. I have always been loyal to this place until a recent new hire repotted 3 of my plants. Clearly used contaminated soil because they were loaded with fruit flies looking things within one week of getting them repotted. I used every possible way to get rid of them and they wont get off my plants that i'v been growing for 3 plus years. I went back to ask if i should use brand new soil and repot them and to my bad luck here she is again. Got lots of attitude and got very defensive when i said "i think my plants are in contaminated soil" i didn't even accuse her or direct anything at her. I guess she remembered me and was very defensive. Insisted that i try a pesticide and kept saying that i probably caused it by overwatering.. She Didnt know she was talking to someone who follows meticulous watering habits. Hence i had my plants for years before i decided to give them a shot and have them repotted at Armstrong. Note i spent over 300 that same day i asked to repot my 3 plants.. Thanks to your new employee's attitude i'll go to a different location. read more

The manager is rude. My purchased a plant in July 2024 and was told it is warranty for one year and if something goes wrong bring it back for a full refund. Unfortunately the plant died mid august. My wife took it back to the Armstrong where she purchased it from to return it. The manager started accusing my wife for putting too much water where she dies not know that. Then she said I will give you a store credit or replace it. That is not what she originally was told. Unfortunately this company needs to be held accountable for their lies. Moving forward we will not be doing business with them and will tell all our neighbors regarding our horrible experience. They are friendly and very knowledgeable. I enjoy visiting here, specially in a spring time. Ask any question and they will help you. Price is not high but not cheap either. Their parking is small and full sometimes. Even thought this location is small compared to other places, they do have quite a selection so I always find something that I like at this location. read more

Love the ladybugs I got today from Armstrong after I bought potting soil and plants. Service here is excellent and everyone is knowledgeable about the plants and how to grow them successfully. At Armstrong's in HB( cashier was helpful & friendly) I finally found an indoor fern for our home. I was looking for a Boston fern but this caught my eye. It's called a Nephrolepis exaltata or Jester's Crown Fern - it's a little small, but will grow. I'll repot to fit the stand. So far it's been a month and she's still healthy & happy. I can't say enough about how helpful all of the employees here are. I was pleased, but not surprised to find out, Armstrong is an employee-owned company. Everyone there is super helpful, knowledgeable, and into plants. Their passion shows. many of them actually have degrees in horticulture. If I have a question I always get a helpful answer, and they know what they are talking about. The difference between shopping here and one of the big box stores is night and day. The 4 stars are for Sara, if I could I would give her 10 Stars if I could. Sara was the most helpful & kindest of all the employees there, honestly we were about to leave until we came across her, if she wasn't working that day, I would of given one star- and that's for the beautiful array of plants & flowers they carry. Because let me tell U- the other 2 employees at the register were just simply rude, short & felt as if I was interrupting their personal conversation when I asked a question, the young man just pointed to a spot behind him of where we can look for potting soil, and there weren't any other customers in-line or paying, and the older lady had one-word answer for my question and continued her personal conversation with her co-worker, no smile no greeting- absolutely had no customer service from that young guy & older lady on Sunday 3/14/21 between 3p-5p. And as I passed by few minutes later the older lady was taking her time helping out another customer, I felt maybe bcuz my skin color didn't match theirs, that's why she was so short and Non-welcoming to me, I just couldn't believe how the older lady took the time to help this other customer, to include taking her to aisle where items customer needed, this was my overall personal perspective of the two working at register. But let me tell U all about Sara, she helped us from start to finish, and she had just finished with another customer before us, she offered us different suggestions, including taking us to exact locations of what we needed, explained everything in full details of what she recommended and all our questions and concerns regarding our plants & care items purchased were answered, she made us feel welcome, I could tell she was very knowledgeable of her job & loves plants, Sara really went above and beyond for us. This place is a real rip off. Prices are outrageous and you're not getting anything special. It was hard to find any veggie plants that weren't sagging, dying, yellowed, eaten by bugs, or in a decent state of health. Most of the accessories such as tomato cages, pots, etc didn't have any price tags. Employees really couldn't answer any questions if you were lucky enough to find one that would help you. If you're going to charge me outrageous prices at least give me decent healthy plants. I loved how the employee refused to update my address for the club card. You go to Roger's garden for example and their plants are in fantastic health. If my wife and I would have gone to Home Depot to start our vegetable garden we would have saved almost 70%. I'll pass on this place for my future gardening needs. read more
