We've never purchased mature trees and so we were understandably apprehensive in spending so much money on a few trees! But, after meeting Ronnie St Jean, landscape designer at Moon Valley Nurseries at Huntington Beach...our fear turned into curiosity. Ronnie was patient and spent a good enough time with us answering all our questions and making recommendations. We were still hesitant on such a big purchase all at once. He offered their financial plan and this was more acceptable than a one time purchase for us. We did not feel pressured from a hard sell. We left and mulled things over and rechecked all our tree choices if they fit in our vision. He followed up in a day or two and our curiosity has turned into a decision to buy from them. Once we set up the financial plan, they set up the date for delivery and planting. After that, email and text messages followed informing us what to expect. This was very important to us because communication is so lacking all around these days. The company followed through with everything they promised. The crew of 4 tree planters led by Carmelo called ahead and informed us they were coming. They were very professional and friendly. They handled our 3 trees very carefully. They dug up and remove tree roots from past trees and worked even in the rain. They checked beforehand and asked which angle we wanted the trees facing. They worked fast but efficiently. I worried about their backs because the trees were heavy, but they used good body mechanics and worked together to protect the tree and themselves. They answered our questions patiently as they were planting. After, that, they cleaned up everything and hosed down the walkway from the mud caused by the rain. They planted three mature trees in about 2 hours plus the cleanup. We were offered an extended warranty. Ronnie and Carmelo were very helpful with answering additional questions we had. We decided to defer, but was given reassurance that we can decide later if we choose it. So, no hard sell and no pressure. Overall, they were amazing! Yesterday my beautiful 60-year-old (but failing) California pepper tree was cut down and removed from my front yard. To say the least, it was traumatic. I loved that tree, which added so much character to our home. The instant the procedure was finished, I got on the phone, determined to find another tree to take its place. I called Moon Valley Nurseries, which I'd passed many times while driving on the 405. (They are notable, among other things, for the wonderful dinosaur sculptures that are visible from the freeway.) My call was answered by Cody Ells, who assured me that they had a beautiful selection of California pepper trees of different sizes and prices. I told him I'd be right over, and he promised to meet me in the parking lot and give me a tour--which he did. To say that my visit to Moon Valley Nurseries was a pleasure is an understatement. Cody Ells met me, we hopped in a cart, and he drove me around their extremely impressive property, showing me not only a fantastic number of California pepper trees to choose from, but a number of other types I was considering as well. In no time, I found the perfect tree at a price I could afford. And I was more than pleased to discover that Moon Valley Nurseries delivers and plants their trees themselves, saving me the trouble and extra expense of arranging all that separately. All in all, it was a great experience. Cody was friendly, knowledgeable, and as nice as could be, and I found a beautiful tree at a great price. I have been wanting an multi-trunk olive tree for my front yard for several years. The local nurseries I checked didn't have much selection, and those they had were all young trees. So we decided to splurge and get one that was older and much larger. I chose Moon Valley Nursery based on the amazing YELP reviews. So I expected and received the excellent customer service that there were raves about. I called ahead to get an idea of prices (to lessen the sticker shock :) ) and availability, and then made an appointment with Karie. She was enthusiastic and answered all our horticulture questions. We found a gorgeous tree, tagged it, and set a date for delivery and planting. They called the night before to give us a 2 hour window, then called the morning of to confirm. From the moment the truck pulled up, until it departed 55 minutes later, Jesse and his crew (Tom, Mike, Nate and Cameron) were amazing. Jesse explained everything they were going to do and they did it in a professional manner, with extra care cleaning up after themselves. They noticed that the lawn area where we had new sprinklers routed needed a boost, and they poured Moon Juice on it, and gave it an extra watering. Jesse carefully explained the optimal watering for our new tree, said to call anytime with questions, took a photo and left two very happy customers with their new tree. read more

Bought some Strawberry Trees a while back and 1 had died off . We didn't notice it until it was too late. So when another one was slowly showing similar signs, we reached out to Moon Valley. They were able to send one of their Arborist over. Patrick was his name and he showed up within the time frame that Moon Valley gave us. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He took a look at the tree we were concerned about and gave us great advice. Even though that was the main concern, I was able to pick his brain and knowledge about some other trees that were not in distress but he was able to give me the time out of his busy day to share with us what we can do with some other plants/trees in our backyard as well as our front yard. Plus he hooked it up with of that Moon Valley Juice. That stuff is stellar! We've been using it upon the advice of the people at Moon Valley when I originally made the phone call, and our distressed strawberry tree started to show new sprouts by the time the ARborist came so I think we are safe in cultivating our tree for many more years to come. Eric was an excellent help in our tree search when we visited the HB location. He was very personable and listened intently to our ideas about the type of tree we were looking for. He helped guide our search without being dismissive of our personal considerations. He additionally got us cold waters on the warm day that we visited and even thoughtfully gave a bottle to a couple walking nearby that he wasn't directly helping. The tree purchase process was very easy overall and we appreciated his overall sales approach. When the installation/planting team came to the house, they were very polite and professional. Yesterday my new Dwarf Crape Myrtle tree was delivered and planted by Victor and his crew. I have been wanting one of these for several years but had a hard time finding a nursery that stocked them. Moon Valley has lots of three year old trees that are in big boxes to choose from plus helpful sales people like Oscar Giron to show them to you. The best part of this was that Moon Valley not only sells them but delivers and plants them. As a 74 year old woman to have delivery and planting done for you is wonderful. The delivery team called ahead of time to let me know when they would arrive then brought the tree into my back yard, dug the hole and planting the tree, making sure it was level and standing straight up, and facing the direction that I wanted. Within 40 minutes everything was done, cleaned up, the tree mulched and watered. The team members were polite and very professional. Today we decided to purchase a avocado tree and of coarse I thought of Moon Nursery first, due to our past purchases and great service. We arrived and greeted immediately by a Mr. Jorge Valencia with a big smile. I described of what I wanted and he said, "we got that, jump in the truck" , and he took me right to the tree that I wanted!... He went through several of the trees and he found the best, strongest one that he thought I would take home. After picking it out, he recommended the right soil and how to care for it. He got me the rocks for the bottom of the planter, and the proper 2 soils. Went into the office, sat down at his desk, did the paper work for the purchase. After, we went to the grounds where he loaded my SUV of my purchases, and asked again if any questions, and we left...this is my 3rd experience there and their professionalism, knowledge of plants, friendliness, and caring is second to none. We met Royce when we went to Moon Valley Nursery in Huntington Beach to buy a sycamore tree. He was very polite and helpful. He really knew his products. We told him that we didn't have a delivery date yet, which he told us that that would not be a problem. A few weeks later, when we called to set the date and time, once again, he was so encouraging and helpful. On the day of delivery, he called to tell us that Mike, the one who would be planting the tree, would call us 30 minutes prior to arrival. My goodness...30 minutes later he was there. Mike's crew, Jose and Rudy, were fabulous. They just went to work and had our tree planted beautifully in no time. Mike, Jose and Rudy were all so friendly and efficient. We called Royce to thank him for sending out such great guys. You can be proud to have these four fellows as employees. Our thanks to the Moon Valley Nursery's designer Kayman Koen for designing a beautiful backyard for us!! After that process Tom's team (Cam, Mike, Rudy, and Forest) installed 35+ trees (6 large trees up the side of a hill, on a very warm day - they were amazing!) They had to come back to complete the job, bringing more trees and did so in a timely manner. The office called to let us know the approximate time the team would be arriving and they were on time!! When Tom thought that a tree would thrive better in a different spot we talked about it and he gave reasons for his opinion. He is very knowledgeable and gave clear instructions on the watering of the plants plus the pruning of the plants. The crew was friendly and very respectful. Carmelo and his team were amazing this morning with a complicated planting of two strawberry trees. They arrived right at 7 a.m. when they said they'd be here working non-stop until 11:30. The guys on his crew were pleasant and worked their tails off. They consulted with my wife and me to make sure the trees were positioned exactly the way we wanted them. We've used Moon Valley in Huntington Beach numerous times and they continue to get better and better. Also a shoutout to Riley Hazen who picked out the trees and was here at the house on site to make sure everything ran smoothly.
