Even though there can be some improvements made, there is a lot of community here. We are a close nit parish. Many of the people that go here have been going for years and some have been going since they were kids, or babies like I have. So, you may actually find people here that you have known in grade school if you live around here. You will also find people that you will greet you, especially the priest that will greet you at the end of mass. We have a choir usually on Sundays since mostly everyone goes then. However, we have the children sing on Christmas for the Children's Christmas mass after they put on their play. We make improvements every day with many active volunteers from the parish that cleans, puts up flowers, and sets up. They donate their time and money to help out the church, which doesn't go unnoticed or rewarded by the church. We also have many different groups in the parish that volunteers their time to help with events that is put on such as: bingo, crab feed, dinner auction, and the casino trip.

The staff was very friendly and it got super-crowded in the room where the event was taking place. If they ever do another one, I plan to return.

The only times that dishearten me was when they decided to close the bar for private events, often leaving me disgruntled to find another place to wet my whistle. I can think of worse things in life like JD Vance becoming VP. Now that would be a tragedy. I usually find myself here when they open at 5PM during the week. Jasmine has been my bartender of choice, and she makes a mean cocktail whether it be a rollicking $8 Tequila Sunrise (photo: https://yelp.to/zp4Bw0t2Cx) or one of the house specialties, the smoothly spiky $12 Margarita Silencio Mezcal (photo: https://yelp.to/NJiZldM8EI). More often than not, I find myself sauntering over to the expansive back patio where one part was usually being decorated for an imminent group event, while the remainder was free for solitary drinkers looking for a moment of reflection while imbibing a libation or three. I've yet to have a problem of overstaying my welcome, but then again, that's part of the inclusive nature of El Rio. Indeed I belong here. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm friends with the folks who put on this event, which you can…read morefind out particulars about more on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/blackmarketsf) than their actual website. Now, anyone who's ever been to a night market in Taiwan, or anywhere else, will likely understand when I say that Black Market is meant to be a fancier, more upscale, boutique night market. For those who can't relate, or can't picture that, it's essentially an (indoor) space for local arts, crafts, and fashion vendors to sell their merchandise; local music talent to showcase their skills; and local food vendors to sate palates. Adding to the likes of the Urban Air Market and Renegade Crafts Fair, Black Market, in its newborn phase is the smaller, more intimate, and, dare I say, more hip sibling of them all, not having a singular focus like Urban Air Market with fashion and jewelry, or Renegade, with crafts. Instead, expect a variety of vendors that purvey anything from handmade soaps, candles, scented oils, to local fashion designers with their custom apparel, all the while having live music pumping in the background, and food vendors lining the sides. In fact, there's another Halloween-themed one going on right now (10/26), at their current Folsom Street Foundry home. If you're not busy, make sure to RSVP, and go check it out!

Maybe it was my lack of research or what seemed like would be a big/grand event, I left disappointed and felt that I needed to apologize for taking my friends here since we were done with it in literally 15 minutes or less. First off, it was advertised that this was free depending on when you got there OR $5 (which I expected to pay since we arrived an hour and a half after it started). We ended up paying $24 for the 3 of us... How did it go up to $8??? We walked in and there's a photobooth area and coat check, then you walk into a room full of vendors. It was smaller than I expected but at least the vibe was cool (music playing and projectors displaying videos on the wall). There's a mix of jewelry, art, food and clothing but maybe 1-2 of each max. As mentioned earlier, we were done walking through pretty fast and at least we took advantage of the photobooth.
