My first visit! Came to see the It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley retrospective. He's one of the few things that would get me to go to a movie theater, ha, ha... So many great seats. I decided to sit upstairs. I decided to eat prior to coming here, so I didn't try the food. I'm happy to report that the sound system was great. I'll definitely be back :)

I finally made it to a Karaoke Night! It was so very laid back. We started with indecisively looking over the menu for a good 15 minutes, only to find a single soul singing upstairs. He was so good-hearted and made us feel welcome as first timers. And my Goddaughter, 16 years old---so this is family friendly, really enjoyed herself. I promised not to post her, but I'm sharing the videos I have permission to share. If only I'd caught our self elected hosts' version of Gucci Gucci. He Nailed it and claimed he wasn't familiar with the song. Fun family night out.

Absolutely positively my favorite place to watch a movie. Until I went to New Parkway, I didn't really understand how plastic and impersonal movie-going at an AMC/Regal/etc. felt. But I can't say enough about how great The New Parkway is. A local theatre run by lovely people, showing great movies/screenings/sporting events from around the globe. As long as I live in the Bay, I'll be here weekly! You should join me.

This is unlike any theater I've been to before. I love the retro aesthetic, assortment of games and activities, and vegan options. I ordered a vegan Parkway Platter and enjoyed the tater tots, tacos, and fruit. The carrot cake was a little dry and the salad wasn't too flavorful, but it was amazing to get so much on one plate! Food: 8/10, Drinks: 9/10, Service: 10/10, Ambience: 9/10

amazing local small theater. i love the vibes here and their mission and values!! The ads you see here are for the local businesses in Oakland and there are not that many of them before the movie. Allocate some time to come before the movie to deck out your popcorn there were so many flavors to choose from!! You can pick your choice of couches/loveseats! Great experience to watch movies that don't need all the extra fancy visuals that come with imax or dolby

If you're looking for a cutie movie date or something very comfy cozy solo, I loved my experience at New Parkway. I went to watch Sinners, amazing. They have such a great variety of snacks, I went with the classic popcorn. Obviously it's maybe more economical to get a large and share, but here, get a portion for yourself because they have a whole spice rack to season to your liking. Garlic powder, nutritional yeast, olive oil, whatever makes your heart sing for a good movie. Walking into the theater, it was made up of many unique couches which made the experience even better. I had such a good time and I was super comfortable/not confined during the movie. If you are particular on your movie seat, come before the movie starts and grab a spot! Finding parking was a little tough, so if you're not great with street parking make sure to make time for that. I had such a fun time!!

I visited The New Parkway Theater with a couple of friends to watch Inside Out 2, and I loved the experience--it was my first time at an independent theater. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a unique charm that adds to the movie-going experience. There's a good variety of food options, though my ice cream sandwich was clearly past its prime. Still, they had a great selection of popcorn flavors and other food, which made up for it. The movie experience itself was enjoyable, although there was a brief hiccup when the screen froze, but it was quickly resolved. Beyond movies, the theater offers trivia nights and other events, making it a wonderful community staple. I'll definitely be back!

This is an amazing local theatre! I've seen a few showings and definitely impressed by the seating and uniqueness. They host daily free community events which is such a great third space. We stoped by to play bingo and had a great time. The bingo area was packed and lively we even won free movie tickets and concession funds! The food was also worth trying perfect crispy chicken and season your own popcorn bar!

    Great show Lewis belt

I like the atmosphere here and the customer service is great it's different than yo traditional style theater but the room temperature water and the Hot theaters makes it feel so uncomfortable

Ask the Community - The New Parkway

Is it wheelchair accessible? Are there spaces for a wheelchair in theaters?

Yes, there is a ramp to enter/exit the building and there is a lot of floor space in both theaters for a wheelchair.

What is the difference between Theatre 1 and Theatre 2? Are they both about the same size and couch configurations?

No. Theatre one is slightly bigger and has an upstairs and a downstairs. The downstairs is not super comfy but does have tables to eat at, the upstairs is more comfortable with couches but also is high up compared to the screen. Theatre two is… Read more

What time is the last session?

Visit thenewparkway.com for the movie you would like to see and check out the last show time for that film. Times differ based on film and it's run time. Fandango also presents their films too.

Do they have gluten free buns for their burgers? Not talking about lettuce but bread. Thanks!

Sorry, but we do not have gluten-free buns for our burgers or sandwiches. But we do always have several yummy gluten-free options.

    Are kids allowed?

They are allowed and they actually have a kids menu for them to order from ! Only until 10 .

How are the Wednesday drink and draw events here?

I happened to be there for one Weds - and if you get there about half an hour before the movie, you can join many participants in the games and drawings. It sounded like a fun crowd!

Are dogs allowed? I read they had a screening that welcomed dogs but not sure if it's a regular thing.

Because food is served in the theatre, dogs are not allowed to be present there by law. Although having your dog with you might be fun for you, it can be hell on others with allergies! In order to be a welcoming environment for all paying human… Read more

How early should we get there to grab a loveseat?

They usually clean the theatre until about 20 minutes before the next show. I usually arrive early, order my food, and we're almost always among the first to enter the theatre and grab comfy seats.

What's up with all of the rad and super comfortable couches getting replaced with office furniture?

I just sat in an old red sofa that wasn't a pretty sight. It's seams were busting and yet it was pretty comity.

    Do they have A/C?

    Yes they do.

Grand Lake Theatre was built in gorgeous art deco architecture, and makes you feel like you've been thrown back into the heydays of when visiting the cinema was a formal outing. There's a chandelier hanging above the ticket booth at the entrance, and there's a grand staircase with giant paintings and more chandeliers leading up to the theaters on the second floor. Most recently, I came here to see Frankenstein the second-to-last day it was being shown here. It was my second time seeing Frankenstein in theaters, and Grand Lake was one of the theaters listed that had it playing, so I came out here on a Tuesday night to enjoy their $6 Tuesday deals. Ngl, parking in this area is absolutely horrid. I spent at least 20 minutes circling the block, driving up and down Grand Ave, and driving through the residential areas to find parking. I was very hesitant to park in the parking lot that's just a short walk down the street from the theater because I saw homeless people loitering in that parking lot, so I was very nervous of parking my car there. Ultimately, I did resort to parking there when I had no other options, and I am very grateful my car was fine.

The single line for the concessions stand was quite long on a Saturday afternoon. There was another concessions stand upstairs leading to the second floor auditoriums, but it was closed. There was also an attached cafe offering a more extensive menu of food and drinks. The auditorium had recliner seats, but the back rests didn't recline much, mainly the foot rests were noticeable. There was just a single aisle in the room, but enough space between rows to not bump into seats while walking down the row. Temperature was perfect, sound and picture quality no problems, and parking options included a lot across the street (2-hour limit), a garage around the corner on Oak Street (75 cents per hour), and street parking in the area if you're lucky.
