They've been raising their FFL transfer fee for a couple years now- it was $25 in 2024, then $35 in 2025 when I picked up a 1911 I shipped to them six months ago. I went in today and they've raised it again. After tax, the $35 fee listed online cost me $42.54. Not a big deal, but when I pointed out it had gone up again, the rep tried to lie to my face and insist that it had always been $40, even though that's facially untrue. It's such a small thing to lie about, I can't help but worry they're lying about bigger stuff, and I've just dodged it thus far. So yeah, the FFL fee there is whatever the rep decides it is when they get to you. No: they won't have that info public and they're fine lying to you to close a sale. Just go to Scheels or buy online.

So, 1st trip to store... the fudds told me they couldn't sell it to me because I was an out-of-state resident. Another guy came over and said, "They're wrong ! I'll write you up, and the 3 days' shipping count as your 3-day wait." But, alas, I forgot some of my stuff, so... 2nd time in, I had all my stuff, spent over an hour filling out forms, only to hear, "3-day wait on this !" Okay, no problem but... confused... I'm standing around, and then another fudd comes out of the back and said, "Can't sell this to you because you have been in the state more than 90 days !" WHAT ? I demanded a refund, paid off my CLUB CARD, and went to Scheel's, where I bought a better gun, with zero hassle/ side-eye from clueless fudds. But, you know what ? Bass Pro Shop doesn't care, because they are the Walmart of the sporting goods world, and have the identical philosophy toward their customers. Bass Pro Rapid City will not get another cent from me.

This location is in the same plaza as Ross and Boot Barn, with plenty of parking. Scheels in general is a dog friendly store, so I visited this store with my little girl dog and my husband. We were greeted by a few friendly employees when we entered the store. This store is a little smaller than some of the other locations that I have been to, as it did not have a ferris wheel in the middle of the store, but they do have a cafe that sells coffee and tasty sweets. There is also a bowling alley, which cost only $1 for 5 frames. My husband and I ended up playing a round each while we visited. Our visit was fun and pleasant. We enjoyed browsing the store after playing a short round of bowling. If I lived in the area, it is most likely that I would be a regular.

Through 1994 when Jack moved the business I went in there to buy parts, ammo and use the indoor range. I knew Jack's three Daughters Sue, Gail and Nancy. A classy family for sure. Someone mentioned price gouging and I have one incident with Mrs. First that comes to mind. I had broken the bolt handle on that very 22 that I mentioned earlier. I went upstairs to parts and ask Mrs. First if she had a new bolt. She brought a bright new one out and asked me if I had some attachment to the rifle. She then mentioned that the bolt was new old stock and would cost me 8 times what my dad had paid for the rifle. She then advised me to take the bolt and handle downstairs to Steve in gun smithing and he would weld it for $8. Very fair company in the 33 years that I traded there. Jack left us in 2017 but I need to get up there before I get too old.
