Authentic Indian that doesn't cut corners in spices or preparation. The baigan Bartha had a delightful smoky flavor that only comes from oven roasting eggplant for hours. This might be the best Indian food in Lincoln. I've only been here once, but the food was amazing. My wife was also blown away (figuratively). I had a grilled chicken dish, I saw a picture of it online and our server shows it to the cook, unfortunately I didn't catch the name. It was sizzling hot when it can to the table and the flavor was great. The chicken was grilled to perfection, well seasoned and decently moist. We ordered cheese naan, garlic naan and followed up with a plain naan with our entrées. They we all good, but the plain was a stand out for texture and consistency. I would order the plain if I was only going to get one. My wife had the chicken vindaloo, she was extremely pleased, and said it was her new favorite spot for vindaloo!! The restaurant itself was pretty run down and could use some minor and major repairs. Small things like our napkin dispenser being empty, and larger things like the old worn mismatched booths being in poo. Our table wasn't completely clean either but once we tasted the food we forgot about the issues in the dinning room. At this price point $45 for two meals (one without any side of rice or anything) and 3 naan and no drinks, I would expect a little more care given to the dinning room to elevate the overall experience; however, that being said, we can't wait to go back and try some different dishes. read more

Short story: not worth the price for the portion sizes or quality of the food. We ordered for delivery and have on many occasions at other Indian restaurants ordered an entree and then bread, soup, etc and it's been enough for two or three people to share. Tonight We had chicken tikka masala, mulligatawny soup, vegetable pakoras, and naan and roti. The portion sizes were absolutely ridiculously small. There was probably 1/2 cup of soup ($4.95) and the entree was more like soup with thin sauce and a few pieces of chicken in it. ($16.95). The soup was overspiced, the entree under seasoned. Mint chutney was $1.95 for two small sauce cups--it was good. One piece of naan and one of roti-- small and rolled into foil and all of the order fit into a bag the size of a kid's lunch sack. Even before delivery fees and tip, the food order alone was almost $38!!!! Definitely not worth the price. I called the restaurant to make sure there hadn't been an error with the portion sizes but they said that's their normal portion size. Absolutely not worth the price. read more

This modest downtown fast casual restaurant has delicious food without frills or pretentiousness. Stop in for a quick sit-down meal or order food to go! We tried the chicken momos, paneer naan, Navratran biryani, and the chicken tikka lunch special. The momos were really great, and the hubs said they're just as good as what you can get back home in India. The dumpling wrapper is tender, the flavorful ground chicken filling is juicy, and the dipping sauce complements well. My chicken tikka was juicy, roasty, and tasty! The lunch portion is pretty small, so if you're hungry, you should probably get something in addition or order the regular portion. The navratran biryani is seasoned rice with golden raisins, cashews, and veggies...super delish and not too sweet! The paneer naan was sooo fresh, and the coriander chutney served alongside is herby and awesome. There are a couple drink fridges with canned and bottled drinks, and serve-your-own water in pitchers with refrigerated glasses. Put your worries aside and definitely try this place out. When my son wanted to go here because he thought it was the best in town a few weeks ago, I cautiously agreed despite my previous experience. So grateful that I did! Total makeover in this place! As I'd not dined here prior, I ordered very basic, thinking that Chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan would be a safe choice. I was wrong. The Tikka Masala was a soup, not a curry. Additionally, I was only provided with a cup of rice(undercooked, I might add) and no silverware to eat with, so I was forced to make something of a slurry(pictured) with the small serving of rice and ended up drinking the remaining 70% of the Tikka masala. I also purchased an order of Gulab Jamun for $2.75 - another waste of money. Portion was small and it had a very chalky taste - I couldn't finish it. Okay, so this is the best Indian food in Lincoln! My husband is Indian, and we've tried nearly every place in town--this one is our top pick (except for our own cooking, ha). They have strong vegetarian options, the sauces are always flavorful, and the roti comes out piping hot. Downside is the service and the atmosphere. For these prices, you might expect an environment more like the Oven, and more attentive service (we often have to get up and hunt down the server). The water also tasted kind of funny last time we went. Overall, though, I'm thrilled to see actually GOOD Indian food in Lincoln, Nebraska! We live in Seward and my wife commutes to Lincoln. She was craving Indian, so I found Aroma seeking Indian takeout. So glad I did! I had Lamb Curry; the wife had Chicken Vindaloo. We also ordered Naan. Dinner was ready for takeout in 20 minutes (ordered online) and came in tightly sealed plastic containers. Rice included in a separate sealed container. Naan wrapped in foil. Lamb Curry was mild, and had deep rich flavors. The gravy was delicious. Chicken Vindaloo was spicy hot! Our lips and tongues were on fire from the first bite! That is not to say it wasn't delicious! If you like heat, this is an excellent dish. I should have ordered more than one serving of Naan, though. We both love Naan, and 2-3 servings would have gone better with the generous entree portions. Had a pretty pleasant first experience at aroma. Came here for lunch, so I could not get my all-time favorite vindaloo, but tried chicken tikka masala at spice level of 7. It was pretty good!! Had a good kick and the sauce was plentiful and flavorful. Next time I can probably hike it up to the full ten. You can tell they are just starting out, as the checkout process was a bit confusing but they will get the kinks worked out. Our food came out very quick upon ordering and the lone guy running the place was friendly and able to explain the menu. The meal was served with a portion of rice and onion/lettuce garnish. My biggest change would be a healthier portion of rice to soak up all of that wonderful sauce! This place hasn't won my heart for my favorite Indian in town yet, but it is a strong step up from former establishments at this location (wasabi, the falafel place) and I want to come back during dinner to try the vindaloo and madras. read more

I liked Aroma a lot--I ordered medium spicy, which is my habit for trying new foods, and it did have a little kick for it so if you can't tolerate hot foods I wouldn't get it but it was be perfect amount of spice for me. Hot enough to have flavor without being unenjoyable. The naan came out looking delicious--my boyfriend ordered chicken tikka masala and he also loved his meal. The restaurant was quiet and pretty empty, but it was a great We will definitely be back. My boyfriend and I loved this restaurant. We've been looking for some good Indian food in the Lincoln area and haven't had any luck until this place. It's a cute little hole in the wall with a very kind and friendly atmosphere. We started out with the Garden Veg Pakora, which was very tasty. The sauce that comes on the side with it is a great pairing. I got the Chana Masala and my boyfriend got the Lamb Kadai Ghost. Both were extremely good. I was in love with the masala sauce, I highly recommend it as a vegetarian option. The lamb was beyond tender and it was a dish you didn't want to end. So good. We also got a side of Garlic Naan which was also great. I have nothing but positive things to say about Aroma! Prices are affordable and I will definitely be making more visits there in the future. It didn't have any vegetables in it -- just a chickpea puree broth. An order of (undercooked) naan = one piece of naan. One of the orders was undercooked an inedible. order of samosa = two small samosa. Dinner portion of curry was about 8 oz and contained a few pieces of lamb in a sea of curry. No veg. Also the pickles was a tiny 1 oz condiment container of pickles. Maybe 2 gherkins worth. Everything was very spicy, but it was just..hot..none of the rich nuanced tasted of spices. read more

I had read about this restaurant in the Lincoln Journal star and when I got home the chicken vindaloo had maybe four tiny little pieces of chicken and it was watery and had virtually no space. We ordered Aroma via Grub Hub last night for my birthday dinner and it was very disappointing. While the food tasted fine (though VERY mild considering it's Indian food), the portion size was ridiculous. We ordered the Lamb Korma, Saag Panner, Naan and Meat Samosa. The lamb had 6 TINY bites of lamb swimming in gravy. For $17, I would expect an entree with much more protein. In my opinion, plain naan should be complimentary but it's not so I ordered it and it was one piece of naan wadded up in a piece of foil. The meat samosa was $7 and it was two very small samosa. the Saag was fine, probably the best part of the meal, but wasn't as good as the frozen variety I get at Trader Joes and was about 3x the price. The chutney, which also comes at an additional charge, was very thin, watery and didn't have much flavor at all. I won't be ordering from here again. read more

Totally overpriced and the owner insulted the other big Indian restaurant in town, saying...I kid you not...that their food was "crap food". I repeated it to him to make sure that's what he said. He said yes, it was all made with food coloring. Even if that's true (which it is in several dishes, like chicken tikka korma, and red color in the rice to mimic saffron) it's bad business to insult them that harshly to customers. The waiter also argued with us over a dishes name and wouldn't listen to what we were trying to tell him. The food was ok, portions super small, service very slow, another man came in to eat and no one spoke to him so he left. The place is not attractive in any way. Overall a very uncomfortable meal, which I could have overlooked if the price was at least 1/4 less. Indian is just not that expensive to make. I cook it at home so I know what I pay, and that's not wholesale. It should be priced like Chinese, especially in a dump venue. read more
