long lines, no rooms available at check in, somehow no one at the front knows what's going on. we had a check in at 4 got there at 4:30 to no room being ready for us, i'm disappointed they left use with no room, nothing to offer because of the no room and overall that they weren't prepared for their customers who had a reservation.

Grand View Lodge - It's been snowing ALL DAY!!! So beautiful. A real winter wonderland.

Christmas at Grand View Lodge This was our second annual…read morefamily Christmas getaway to Nisswa, and once again it was such a gift. Having four families together made it especially meaningful. We filled the days with winter walks, ice skating, swimming and hot tubbing in both the upper and lower pools, bingo nights, and a great family dinner at the Northwoods Pub. Simple moments, shared memories. The lodges themselves are perfect for larger families--a common dining and gathering space with four bedrooms that comfortably sleep 12-14 people. Everything is well thought out and easy. There's adequate food on site, great amenities, and in the summer the ice cream shop is always a hit. What stood out most, though, was the care from the staff and management. We experienced a family emergency during our stay, and they went above and beyond to help us. That kind of care makes a place feel more than just a resort, it feels like people actually see you. We're already grateful for the memories and looking forward to coming back

We love the outdoor hot tub that is really 3 hot tubs together making for plenty of space. Feels great in 1degree weather. The indoor pool, hot tub and water slide are also a fun attraction. The first year we came here they had a breakfast buffet which was awesome but the last time they did not offer it and only had a pre fix menu with a couple buffet style options. The complimentary s'mores are a nice touch and there are a few on site dining options available. It was quiet and secluded on off peak times but not all of the amenities are available. Our cabin was spacious and comfortable. Would love to check out during summer ours to experience more of the amenities!

A friend and I stayed here for a weekend and would likely stay again. It's a small old-school…read moreresort with many personal touches. The property is the biggest draw. Level land and cabins steps from the lake make the water easily accessible. It's a a cove on Gull Lake so a bit protected from the really busy boat traffic (there still is traffic- just not as much as on the main partnof the lake). Beautiful spot to watch the sunset from. We stayed in Cabin 1 which is actually a trailer with an attached screen porch. Tiny but enough space for 2. Lots of cute, personalized touches like a chalkboard greeting us by name and some fresh cookies on the table. The only problem was that it was a very humid weekend and the wall air conditioner in the living room just didn't help the bedrooms. Kayaks are free to take out, which I loved! The calm water in the cove plus rhe nearby channels are perfect for kayking. Staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. You need to bring your own towels and soap for the shower. This isn't a big resort so no restaurant or anything like that on-site. Not much of a beach so I don't think I'd bring small children. More for adults who want to relax and maybe boat.

It is perfect for an extended family trip where you want family togetherness but also some space of your own. Yes, I would love it if the showers were bigger and I could do laundry while I was there, but you know what, you can't have everything, and sitting on the screened in porch with my coffee and a book in the morning and canoeing in the afternoon or playing on the little beach makes it all worthwhile. Sue and staff do a wonderful job here and there's a good reason they are often booked months in advance.

It's important to know a lot of the options with high rankings may not reflect the kind of lodging you desire so do your homework. We wanted cabin style lakeside housing that was simple yet provided options.... Appeldoorn's delivered. We rented cabin 1 which is 300 feet from the water. They have a sandy beach with two docks and water toys for kids including kayaks, paddle boats, a blob and in water slide. Throw in a sandy beach that is sifted daily you have a great place to enjoy this massive lakes beauty. The front desk is extremely helpful and they have a lot of convenience store items available for reasonable price. They also arrange fishing chartered and have rental equipment weather permitting. We also dined at the resort for breakfast and dinner and were impressed with the quality and originality of the food. The dining options are closed Monday and Tuesday so you will need to explore the local area. They have four varieties of housing and they all seem pretty awesome, we are definitely planning to return!

OK WHAT AN UPGRADE!!!!…read more I was here a few years ago for a wedding, and was not impressed to say the least. But, things have changed for the better in a BIG way!! Very different. The current event coordinator, Mariah, knocks everything she does of of the ball park. I was here for another wedding, and I was in for a huge surprise. There were many improvements, too many to list! The new wedding area is perfectly located. A permanent Arbor is there for the couple to decorate as they wish, or not. The lakeside now has 2 docks, many aquatic amenities, and a great sandy beach. Even a lakeside bar! I could go on and on, but you need to see this place on Mille Lacs to really appreciate it. However here is my thoughts on some menu items there: CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS toasted bun, gooey cheese, fresh burger SHRIMP COCKTAIL: large fresh shrimp, not from a shrimp farm in Yuma AZ PECAN ENCRUSTED WALLEYE FINGERS: none better (it should be a law that every restaurant on Mille Lacs offers something like this) but try it here NEW LOOK NEW FOOD NEW VIBE

So many rules. Beds uncomfortable and comforters dirty. Kitchens dirty too. Air conditioner in cabin sounds like heavy machinery. Bathroom showers don't drain. Marty made someone move their truck for being 3 inches off on grass. He walked into our cabin without knocking to plug in a CO2 detector. When we called for the wifi password (which should be in the binder in each cabin) he said "it's the same it's been for several years"... it's over priced, uncomfortable physically and socially, would not recommend to anyone. I literally filled a clear water bottle up with lake water and it was complete clean water! The depth of the water is very shallow in that we could almost walk all the way out to the end of the dock in the water and still be touching, which is awesome! Shing Wako provides several adult and kid sized paddle boards, kayaks and life jackets. The cabins are in nice condition with top notch pots and pans, pretty much all utensils you need, etc. Now for the not such a charm: the male owner! He was a miserable human being! Absolutely rude and lacking all adult communication skills. One of the nights the family reunion cabin became extremely hot. We couldn't figure out how or why the air wasn't working. The next morning the male owner told our group that he "pulled the air conditioner to make it stop because someone had opened a window upstairs!" So instead of knocking on the door and letting us know there was a window open, he just pulled the plug! What the heck!?! Who does something like that!?! His verbal communication on several other instances were enough to make me not want to return. If they want Shing Wako to continue being a great place, I'm thinking it's time for him to hang up his boots and not be on the property when guests are around! The other issue is the twin beds upstairs are by far the worst, most uncomfortable bed I have ever had to sleep in! I was counting down the days until I could sleep in my own bed! Please replace them for visitors comfort!!

We were all stunned to see the interior of the place due to the modern design of the cabin. All cabins are full equipped with household items and a kitchen. Two rooms on the main level with queen beds and the loft has two double beds. The cabin can easily accommodate 8-9 people. As for outside, the view is amazing!! Equipped with a charcoal grill, log fire pit (logs were $5 a bundle), picnic table, patio table & chairs. Each cabin comes with their own aluminum fishing boat with oars but we were able to upgrade to add a motor for $45 a day. They also have a fishing pontoons available for $150/day. Our cabin is right next to the small sandy beach where they had a water trampoline, swim raft and water slide. Great place to go fishing. Outside of the rental office there's a gut house for those who want to clean their fishes. It is highly recommended to clean your fishes here to avoid all of the mess in the nice cabins. We've chatted with the owner, Greg. He is pretty cool. We would love to come back for another get together!

We had 6 crappies. 9 under our limit. He says "what about yesterday!?" Bag and possession limit is the same on Leech, but our friend took his limit home the day before and we ate ours. There are 7 of us in our group, so technically we could have had 35 crappies in our possession and we didn't even have our bag limit. Interrupting a great memory and adding frustration to a fun weekend is why we haven't been back in 4 years. Last time we were up, Jeff couldn't help himself from yelling at our kids. if he has reasonable suspicion that someone is hoarding or poaching fish then he should report them to the TIP line. I'm all for it! I'm a full time fishing guide and work with the DNR myself. Jeff responded to my google review and had the audacity to say he reported us to the DNR. So laughable. Don't accuse your guests of being over the limit. ESPECIALLY when you don't have a clue of what you're talking about. We didn't even have our bag limit, and if you read the reg book, it is 100% legal to catch a limit one day, eat or gift your fish, and go out the next day and do it again if you'd like. I personally only take what I can eat. Jeff is bad for his own business. He's the nail on his own coffin and will taint his son's legacy when he takes over the business. I feel like maybe they should check him into a mental institution, because he isn't sane.
