Northern Minnesota is just in a league of their own!! Went for a short family trip and even though it was late September, we had a blast! We swam, paddle boarded, kayaked, pontoon cruise and even went down some water slides. They have great food options on site and even have a Vikings bar for watching the games!! Definitely will be back and can't wait enjoy even more of the Brainerd Lake Area.

This is a stunning location. Room are very spacious and bed are delightful. The premises an amenities are just amazing!

Inside my room! Cobwebs and dead bugs.

This Pig Needs More Than A Touch of Lipstick. So the good. Fantastic cookies at reception desk during Happy Hour. Had a great workout at the gym, loved swimming in the outdoor pool, really enjoyed the huge and nicely configured hot tub by that pool. The grounds are beautiful and look well kept and the beach are, which does not allow swimming, appears to have a number of water sports options although I didn't partake. The The bed was super comfortable and even though my room in the main lodge looked out on one of the outdoor bar/eatery areas I didn't mind the ambient noise. The Chocolate Ox had delicious ice cream in huge portions at low prices. The not so great. I understood from hosts of the wedding I attended nearby, that GV charged 6$ per delivery of guest gift bag. Not only have I never heard of that kind of charge before, but the bag wasn't delivered to my room or offered to me at check in. Once I heard about it I called down to the front desk who told me I could come and pick it up. Other not so good features. While I understand that the property is old, it was super dirty and dingy in ways that could not have been addressed by housekeeping services (and in fact they weren't offered during b my stay and possibly are only offered after a certain number of days or when there is a changeover in occupants). The wooden blinds were dusty and were hung crookedly. There were no screens on the windows and now screen on the door opening to my balcony so because of bugs, I couldn't open the windows (nor could I regulate the temperature on the thermostat although at least it was stuck at a pretty comfortable 68). Worse than that, when I ventured out to my balcony area I noticed that tge window sills were occupied both inside and out by dead bugs and cobwebs, there was only one uncomfortable desk type chair on my balcony- no patio style recliner or second chair or even a small table should one want to have coffee or read outside. The balcony area and other areas throughout the property, once I started to look more closely, were badly in need of hours or days of deep cleaning as well as painting. Inside the bathroom, the grout in the tub was similarly aged. Yuck. The coffee pot was an old style class one which seemed a little gross to me given the standard of cleanliness but I did use it with the large coffee pod provided. The lack of friendliness or receptivity at the front desk was another issue. They recommended a shuttle service that never returned a couple of calls and weren't helpful when asking generally about other transportation options. When I was checking out and mentioned that I was displeased with the cleanliness aspect of my room, the person was super defensive suggesting that it was really on me that I hadn't alerted them during the weekend although as I mentioned above, there were no housekeeping services offered during my weekend stay and no property brochure or information pack in the room to suggest that there might be upon request. Even if housekeeping had been available the issues I'm talking about warrant like days to weeks of fix ups, not an hour of someone doing a cursory cleaning. Defensiveness in response to a customer offering some feedback or the opportunity to engage about a concern is the worst, and suggests they would have been the same had I approached about these longstanding problems earlier in my stay. I hope the place gets in some new managers or owners with better energy and motivation to improve the property as it has so much to offer.

Went the week after spring break so location was very quiet which was nice but the breakfast buffet was not available because of how slow so we had a menu of options instead which was just fine. Staff was attentive and they did have a few grab and go items too which was nice. The lodge for breakfast looked out onto the grounds which is beautifully kept. The breakfast buffet was a 10/10 when it was available.

    More frayed carpet

We stayed in a large, 9 bedroom cabin for our family Holiday in December. The cabin was spacious, however, it needed much updating. The cabin was old and tired looking. The carpet was worn, and had duct tape in 1 place to hold the frayed edges. The lighting was poor. The floors were cold. The kitchen was fairly well equipped except for no dishwasher soap for the ancient dishwasher. I could maybe overlook some of this except for the $1600 + fees we paid per night. We have a family friend who works at the resort, who had arranged a discount for us. Those arrangements had been made the previous spring. When we checked in, we were told the discount would not be honored. The resort does have wonderful restaurants and great amenities. We felt the price was too high for the worn down cabin.

Fun place, lots to do, beautiful setting, but wow is it expensive! I've been to lots of north woods places and it's a little hard to justify the extra cost here for a similar-ish experience. We had a wonderful vacation with a family of 9 in one of the newer garden cottages, ages ranging from 2 to 69! Lots of swimming, pickle ball, bike riding, kayaking, pontooning, and banana boating were some highlights! I even enjoyed a morning yoga session. Daily stops to the Chocolate Ox kept the kids happy with plenty of ice cream and candy offerings. Be prepared though, the restaurants are a bit pricey for a cabin vacation. The bartender at the Cantina was a total grump. (Isn't this supposed to be fun?) We won tacos and drinks at Mingo Bingo but had difficulty cashing it in because evidently the kitchen closes if it's a rainy day? Seems like there's gotta be a better backup option. Anyway. Overall we all agreed it was a great vacation, but next time will go somewhere else. Pro tip: walk down to the boat house at 7:45am to be ready to sign up and ensure your spot for pontoon cruises or banana boat rides when they open at 8am.

This pile of poop was a foot across and 3" high. The deck hadn't been swept in months.

$650 a night - what you'd pay at the Four Seasons... and this place is a wreck. Our deck and windows were absolutely FILTHY - huge piles of dirt, insects and bird poop covering our decks and outdoor furniture- see photos!! The hallway covered in cheap ancient carpet, the walls paper thin and the floor on the second floor squeaked and gave so much I was afraid my leg would punch through. Just outrageous that they charge Tokyo prices for such a dump.

Stayed in the hotel. The coffee, alcohol and food counter was the best! The restaurants within the resort are all pretty bad. It's perfect for families with little kids We walked into a nicotine pouch dried on the headboard of the bed. Vending machine at the hotel is a need. The story of the Italian restaurant is a bit weird. I wouldn't advertise that the resort bought a ladies house who specifically noted she did not want the resort to ever have it.. but she died. The large building is very old and stinks. I hope they pay the overseas workers coming here to work for them for the summer! Pocket sized bug spray was $15 through the main lounge but the clothing store has full size bottles for $7... Wished for better food options. That would make it much better experience. I want to go back but struggling to find a occasion to do so cause it doesn't have everything but enough within a close vicinity.

It was really a great weekend getaway here. For the Spooktacular weekend we took advantage of a staycation. Thursday to Saturday accommodations in the new hotel was perfect. The room was in my opinion modern cabin style chic. It was very warm and welcoming. The hotel was right across from the pool and gym facilities. This was super convenient because we could workout in the morning and then head to the main lodge to get our buffet brunch. Their buffet brunch options were great. The room had a sun roof so it was full of sunlight most of the time we ate. It had a really nice feel to it. Families of all sizes dined there. The grounds on the property was also very nice. At first the property looked overwhelming but with routine walks and driving it was manageable. It appeared to truly be a very family oriented resort. Saturday morning came and the flood gates of children and their parents were all over the property. It seemed like friends of friends got together and planned the weekend where the kids could enjoy the festivities and the adults could congregate as well. I thought that was very practical and smart. Assuming my impression of their plans are correct. I would definitely return to this resort. Maybe enjoy one of the cabins next time!

Grandview Lodge is an upscale hidden travel destination in the Midwest. It has many on-site upscale restaurants and amazing wine collections. You can enjoy a lakefront cabin with a fresh breathtaking taking view. We come here every year to hide away from the city life while enjoying an upscale quiet experience.

My favorite time of the year at Grandview.

2022 has been the year of try new local things. Grandview went on the list this January to relax and do some snowmobiling. We rented a great cabin and enjoyed every part of it. We went back in March with friends for more of the same and this time added some pool time for adults and kids. This past weekend we made our 3rd visit to enjoy some summer fun. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great but we still made it out on the boats for some fun on the lake. When we were back we tried out the lakeside pool, bar and chocolate shop. Who knows if visit number 4 will come this year but for sure we will be back in February. Every employee is kind and courteous. The property is well taken care off and makes you feel at home. The restaurants server quality food that makes you not want to leave the property. Well done Grandview staff!

On a friend's recommendation we stayed here for the Grand Brewfest, which takes place at Grand View Lodge each November. We had a great time at the tasting event, complete with food pairing. From the event website: This fun filled weekend started in 2010 when the rise in craft beer was gaining momentum. The event is Grand View's craft beer and culinary weekend to pay homage all of our state's finest breweries. My husband and I rented a cabin on Roy Lake which was the perfect size for the two of us. The cabin had a fireplace, a deck, 1-1/2 bathrooms and a nice big bathtub. We didn't plan to cook but the kitchen certainly seemed functional. It was very clean and cozy. I'm looking forward to returning! NOTE: There's a distilled event in April that I'm thinking about already... Our stay included the breakfast buffet at the main lodge. It was OK, nothing I'd pay for if it wasn't included. Apparently the cinnamon rolls are legendary, but that really isn't my thing. My husband enjoyed one and assured me it was worth the carbs. The free shuttle between our cabin and the lodge made getting around VERY easy. The drivers were friendly and made the stay that much more awesome.

Bachelorette extra. Cleaning not very thorough.

Amenities: 5 stars Rooms/lodging: 2.5 stars Service: 2.5 stars Stayed here while in town for a family reunion in the area. We rented a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom near the lodge - Nokomis Drive Cabin 160. We liked the large space and that we had a pool table and could all be together. We did not like how dark, cold, and unclean the rooms/living area were. The rooms had closets, but they were essentially unusable due to the lack of lights in them and how generally dark the rooms were. The bathrooms had very poor water pressure and water temperature regulation. The water went from scalding hot to lukewarm constantly - so much so that my father suggested that the water is not up to code to the extent that it could be dangerous for small children. We also found substantial dirt, hair, and most unfortunately, a leftover bachelorette penis straw from a past guest. For the price you are paying, the rooms themselves are in dire need of better cleaning and an upgrade. The amenities at the resort are otherwise fantastic and are the reason to stay here. We enjoyed the restaurants, pools, and lake access.

Service was pretty rough from the start. Our server was friendly, but they spilled our drinks at the table and then had to take them back because they'd been made with bad milk. It took forever to get the first round and even longer to get the second. You'd think they'd move faster getting us the second round given the first was spilled and made with bad milk! Definitely a missed opportunity to make up for the poor overall service. The bread was the highlight of the night, which is very telling given it was standard crostini bread. That said, it was warm, fresh, and served with delicious butter. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't live up to that start. The food took far, far, far too long to come out and when it finally did, it didn't all arrive together. Half the table started eating while the other half just sat and watched and continued to wait for their food to come. I thought they brought it out separately to serve things hot, but the food that was first brought out was only lukewarm. I got the steak sandwich, which was fine but pretty bland. Even the sauce couldn't save it... The fries were well-seasoned but soft and floppy, which just made them feel sad and unappealing. I had an espresso martini with dinner and it was basically a chocolate drink with no real espresso flavor. Overall, the setting was fine, but slow service, uneven timing, and subpar food made this a disappointing experience.

I ordered the Cajun rigatoni and they were kind enough to substitute the shrimp for chicken. The pasta sauce had the perfect level of spice and everyone at the table agreed that mine was the best meal. Fully recommend the pasta! For service, we didn't have a good experience which may or may not have been because our waiter was new(?). Everything just seemed to take a long time and in some cases when he would come to our table, he would have to leave and come back because he forgot his pen or something else he needed. He accidentally spilled drinks on two of the people at my table (didn't offer to comp the drinks), and ran out half of the food for our table-- went to help a different table-- then ran out the rest of our food after a good 10 minutes. If we had had a different server, I think it would have been a totally different experience. Our friend who has been here many times said she has never had any kind of experience like this before.

Level land and cabins steps from the lake make the water easily accessible. It's a a cove on Gull Lake so a bit protected from the really busy boat traffic (there still is traffic- just not as much as on the main partnof the lake). Beautiful spot to watch the sunset from. We stayed in Cabin 1 which is actually a trailer with an attached screen porch. Tiny but enough space for 2. Lots of cute, personalized touches like a chalkboard greeting us by name and some fresh cookies on the table. The only problem was that it was a very humid weekend and the wall air conditioner in the living room just didn't help the bedrooms. Kayaks are free to take out, which I loved! The calm water in the cove plus rhe nearby channels are perfect for kayking. Staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. You need to bring your own towels and soap for the shower. This isn't a big resort so no restaurant or anything like that on-site. Not much of a beach so I don't think I'd bring small children. More for adults who want to relax and maybe boat.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and everything in the room worked as expected. The only minor issue we noticed was that the bathroom sink drained a little slowly. While there was no daily housekeeping during our stay, the staff was fantastic about providing anything we needed. We also had an issue with a clogged toilet and staff responded within about 5 minutes, which was awesome customer service. That said, it might be nice to have plungers available in the bathrooms to save guests a little embarrassment. I absolutely have to mention that the nachos were some of the best we've ever had. The portion size was massive and they were fully loaded! Also the Cajun Alfredo was phenomenal (we even got it to-go a couple times to heat up later and it was still amazing)! Highly recommend!!! A few improvements I think would make the resort even better: * Better soundproofing. We were in room 124 and could hear the bar throughout the night. Thankfully it was never extremely loud, but it was noticeable at times. * Blackout curtains/window coverings instead of the current white blinds. The morning sun comes through very aggressively. * A fish cleaning house would be an amazing addition. My partner and I are huge fishers and caught over 100 fish during our stay, but couldn't keep any because there wasn't a place to clean them. * During our stay, we noticed the food prices we were charged did not match the menu we had originally been given. On the last night of our stay, we were provided an updated menu dated 6/3/26, which means we had been given an outdated menu while still being charged the newer pricing. Since our stay was from 6/4/26 through 6/7/26, it would have been nice to have received the updated menu from the start to avoid confusion, though I completely understand that new menus can take some time to roll out. (Plus there were newly-updated items on the menu that we would have loved to have ordered previously)! * There are currently no onsite laundry amenities available (at least for the suites). For guests like us who prefer to pack light or stay for multiple days, having laundry facilities onsite would be a really nice addition. Also, I saw a previous review mentioning loud headboards and can confirm that issue seems to have been fixed, at least in our room. ;) Overall, we had a GREAT stay and are already planning to return!
