Cheesy shaved roast beef sandwich with pepper and onions on a hoagie

Friendly staff and great service! I got crispy chicken parm sandwich and mom got creamy chicken veggie soup and cheesy shaved roast beef hoagie with sautéed peppers onions, all fantastic taste - very very good

    Canon fries- RECOMMEND 11/10

As far as bar food goes this place is pretty darn good. Tried some canon fries tonight, YUM. Would not recommend the bacon Gouda bites, they look like a fried tater tot but full of air and a small cheese coating on the inside. Small deck outside with dogs allowed. Will be back!

I really like ACT. I have been coming here since they opened and am some-what of a regular. The service is always good, and our server remembers our orders. It is a great touch. The owner is usually there, talking to customers or sitting at the bar. The bar is always lively, loud, but we really enjoy it. For beer, they have quite a few taps with a good array of beers. They also have a bunch of cans and bottles to choose from. Full bar with special liquor drinks and some wine available. During cooler months, I always get the french onion soup. It is super good here! We also always get the Cannon Fries, with sweet potato fries and bacon on the side (Veggie friend). The server remembers this order for us every time! I am regrettably revoking a star for the pretty terrible wings I was served on my last visit. Please see photos. They were badly butchered, missing most of the skin, scrawny, dry, under sauced. Just bad. I don't know why these wings were served, they look like a wreck. Everything else was good as usual, so I'm just pulling down one star and recommend you avoid the wings here. Try a wrap, sandwich. salad quesadilla, burger, its all good!

Once the location of a very popular fish fry establishment, Gallagher's, the Arsenal City Tavern has come out with all guns blazing... or should that be howitzers and cannons? Located between the Watervliet Arsenal and popular places like Mac's Drive-In, the Schuyler Bakery, and the original location of Ted's Fish Fry, this area truly has a battery of eateries to satisfy the likes of any army marching on its stomach. Our normal troop of third-Thursday recruits was not at full mobilization. Our squad leader was on a special mission in NYC and some of our regulars were AWOL. This left just four of us to defend our long standing mission of attacking as many of the tavern offerings on the ACT menu that appealed to us. With honor and hunger we soldiered on. We were happy to accept a table in the back room as the mostly high-tops in the bar area were occupied, the noise level was at a very high level there, and it was obvious from the DJ's equipment by the entrance that the decibels would only increase as the night went on. From a reasonable sounding list of draft beers recited by our server, we started with a pitcher of Sam Adam's Summer Ale ($17). For appetizers we ordered the Mozzarella Sticks ($7) with both raspberry sauce and marinara sauce, Cannon Fries ($9), Potato Bombs ($7), and Wings ($10) with a medium garlic Buffalo sauce. Speaking for myself only, the mozzarella sticks were OK, but nothing special. The raspberry sauce was flavorful, but its consistency seemed just a bit odd to me. The Cannon Fries were average fries topped with ranch dressing, melted cheddar jack cheese, chopped bacon, and scallions. There were sufficient toppings that we all got our fair share. But since we tended to try all the other appetizers first, these were pretty much at room temperature by the time we tackled them. Still, they had a decent flavor, especially when you got some of the bacon pieces. The Potato Bombs were something I've never come across before. Shredded potatoes are combined with bacon chips and cheddar cheese, molded into golf ball sized balls and deep fried. They are served with a choice of ranch or tiger sauce on the side - we got both. I really enjoyed both the texture and flavors of these Bombs. With 10 wings to an order, I made a point of trying both a flat and a drumstick. The flat was more moist, but both were meaty and flavorful. There was not much spiciness to the Garlic Buffalo sauce, but then again, we requested medium hotness. Having finished our appetizers, we were ready for our pizzas to arrive and ordered a pitcher of Fat Tire ($17). We agreed that it would not be a Third Thursday event without pizza. With no ham anywhere on the menu the possibility of creating a Steve N. was off the table. The only featured combination that seemed acceptable to the entire squad at the table was the Mess Dress ($13) with pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, and green peppers. We added Italian sausage for an additional ($1.50). The pizzas are 12 inches, and maybe because there were only four of us, they cut the pizza into four slices. That ends up being a very wide slice of pizza. On the positive side, the ingredients were fresh, the dough had a nice flavor, the crust edges had a little bit of char and blistering, and the bottom showed some golden browning. Even the sausage was noticeably flavorful. My only complaint was the limpness of each slice. I would have liked to have more crispiness on the bottom of the pizza. The crust edges gained more sturdiness as the pizza cooled. Our second pizza was a creation of their Traditional with bacon and jalapeño for its topping ($12). All the previously mentioned positives and preferences can be said for this pizza also. Service was friendly and efficient. There are muted TV screens around the dining room so you can keep track of your favorite sports. The kitchen is between the bar and the dining room so the excitement at the bar is also muted in the dining room.

Side of salsa and sour cream come with your taco salad

Cool new place to check out. I sat in the bar area. It was a birthday gathering. I ordered a taco salad. It came with sour cream and salsa. The chips lined the bowl which was filled with a generous portion of taco meat, cheese, black olives, tomatoes and fresh lettuce. I ordered it without jalapeños. I thought the meat was a bit salty but I love salt so I ate most of it. I also don't typically eat beef so maybe that's just what it supposed to taste like. I thought it was good! My dinner mate ordered steak quesadillas which he said were amazing. They did look good!! The service was fast and friendly. The total bill was very reasonable. Light, fun atmosphere. They also have a dining room if you don't want to sit in the bar!

Potato Bombs. My favorite of the night.

Honestly I have gone back and forth as to whether or not this is a three star or four star spot. Parking was pretty easy. The bar was loud and lively. I dined with a group and the manager and waitress did a good job taking care of us. One of my fellow diners had a different menu insert from the rest of us which was funny especially when we were trying to decide what we wanted to order. We started with some pitchers of beer and several appetizers. They did offer pitchers of the good stuff but the bill at the end made us say wow. Very pricey. The appetizers were decent. Mozzarella sticks, Garlic buffalo wings, loaded fries. Nothing made me jump up and down. The wings were crispy but needed more sauce. The potato bombs were the most creative thing we ordered and I really enjoyed those. If you are not sure of what to order I think those are your winner. We also ordered pizza. It was very soft. Comparable to those pan pizzas from that place we will not mention. We ordered one with jalapeno and bacon and the "Mess Dress" which was the equivalent of a supreme. I don't like jalapenos on pizza but the group did. I was actually pleasantly surprised. They were fresh and the heat level was manageable. The MD was nice too. I am not running back here for anything honestly but it is a fun spot. In the mood for football, pizza, wings and beer? Arsenal City has got you covered. For the locals I am certain this is THE spot. I have one of those too. You love it regardless of its imperfections :)

Hosted a huge family party here, I'm based out of state. I had no idea what to expect, but the people here were amazing to work with, unbelievably helpful and so friendly to my family of all ages.

The onion rings were good, but the roll on my cheesesteak sandwich was stale and burnt for some reason? I don't think I'll go back.

I ordered this as takeout and just had to take a couple of bites in the car before going home to try it nice and warm. This kind of sandwich is hard to find. A special roll needs to be used for this called a kimmelweck roll. A kimmelweck (or kummelweck) roll is a crunchy, Kaiser-type bread roll topped with coarse salt and aromatic caraway seeds, primarily known for defining the Buffalo, New York, "beef on weck" sandwich. Originating from 19th-century German immigrant traditions, they are usually filled with roast beef and soaked in au jus. The sandwich was loaded with juicy flavorful roast beef. The bun had caraway seeds and coarse salt all over the top of it which complimented the beef deliciously. It also had a horseradish sauce on the sandwich, so good. It was served with tasty fries and two little cups of au jus. I would definitely order this again.

Just a small, unassuming, laid back bar atmosphere with some solid food. We started with the homemade mozz sticks. 4 large logs that were fried until the cheese was almost liquid. It just tasted like straight anchovies. Last I got one of the specials, a chicken parm sandwich. It came with a nice big cutlet, lots of sauce, and cheese on a ciabatta roll served with fries. I liked the sandwich a lot and the sauce went really well with it. The fries were obviously made in house because they were thick wedges. Not my favorite style but good if you are into that. This is a dive, for sure, but don't be afraid of dives, embrace them. From the outside you would for sure just drive past, I know, I have driven down this street 100 times and never noticed. But when you walk inside it feels like home. It's bright and welcoming and it was absolutely spotless (the bathroom too!) It's very old inside, all wooden, but reading all the etchings in the wood from the last 4+ decades was pretty awesome. I almost forgot to add, I had the best service here that I had in a long time. It made the meal. Our waitress was so nice and welcoming. We ordered beers, the choices are slim and very domestic, but they did have a bottle of flower power, which only set me back $3.75. We had the fried vegetable platter to start (my friend is vegetarian) and they were pretty good! I saw the wings go by and I wanted to try them. I ordered them hot, and I really enjoyed the spice level, pretty mild for a hot wing. They were meaty. If you love meaty wings, you should come here. They were huge I could only eat a few. The sauce was good. Like a franks sauce but they made it their own. Overall, they were good wings, could have been crispier, but call me picky. My friend absolutely loved her eggplant parm torpedo. The red sauce looked really great so I think if I come back I'll do a parm dish. She said the eggplant was still crispy in the roll, and she loved the fries so much. With two beers each and enough food for take out containers, our bill was less than $50. It's a deal. It's a little hometown spot. We would come back. Maybe not 'go out of your way', but if you are around it's worth a stop for sure!
