The promo says local restaurants stay open late to accommodate train passengers...NOT so on 8/14/2026. One restaurant open but they were full, even in the bar and couldn't seat us for at least 30 minutes and then told they probably wouldn't be able to get food to us in the 1 hr turnaround. Next option we had researched was a food truck and even though their listing showed they were open until 6, it was closed. The only other option was an ice cream shop where the entire train passengers were lined up to get a snack. Getting on the train with an empty belly, looking forward to a snack at the turnaround point and then to find nothing available (other than the liquor store that had bags of chips). The train only had water and a couple types of sodas. So bring your own snacks OR do the 2 hour train ride so you can spend the other 2 hours having nice dinner in Garabaldi or Rockaway Beach.

It is about $33 per person and you can sit inside the train or outside where there is open top seating. Hope Chest stocks gently used items, not junk. Everything is clean and organized, the senior citizens on staff are friendly, and the prices are very reasonable--even better than Goodwill these days. I'm all for supporting a local library system. The store is small but very well stocked. The majority of the prices are reasonable, product is in good condition and fun to dig around. The store fully supports the library and uses 100% volunteers for their employees. Their hours are limited so make sure you call or check to see if they're open. I found the lady working to be pleasant and hospitable. We had lots of conversation and there were lots of people in and out. I didn't see anyone who didn't buy anything. It's a great place to pick up a beach read or silverware if you forget yours.
