We've driven past this museum several times over the years, but have never stopped because of time. We're staying in Oceanside for the week, so it proved to be the perfect opportunity. Interesting museum with tons of fun stuff to see. They have numerous planes, some of which you can go inside to see. The also have training models you can actually sit in and check out all the gauges. There's a long row of tractors and an area with engines to explore. There are a few war exhibits with model fleet ships and dioramas. They had a somber exhibit on the children of the holocaust as well. The big white tent held a number of smaller planes and helicopters. There is a diner and gift shop also. Admission is $11 for adults. Totally worth it. Would recommend a stop when visiting the area!

For $11, you too can explore this historic WWII airship manufacturing hanger in Tillamook, OR. Be sure to wear winter clothing as the hanger maintains its own weather and is usually frigidly cold. As far as exhibits go, it's an interesting spot but it's more of a collection than a museum of local history. There are airplanes and helicopters and flight simulators, there are endless models of WWII battles and even some interactive bomb shelter exhibits. But again, mostly a collection of items from that era rather than history specific to Oregon. And unfortunately, many of the exhibits on display are not well maintained showing signs of rust, sitting on flat tires, gathering dust.

Informative place to spend an hour after visiting the creamery. Modest collect of aircraft on display, unusual collection of jet engines and other airplane components. The hangar is truly impressive in it's scale. Nice little BBQ lunch spot at the entrance - wish I could have talked the rest of our group into having lunch there! The highlight for me was the airplane model that John Denver crashed and died in (see photo below) with a really informative poster about the plane and Denver's accident. Worth a stop if you are in the area!

Over the years, I can say that I have definitely not sought out air museums. There's a sort of thing that you go to every once in a while, and I was generally when I was younger and had a little bit more interest in planes. That said, when we see a potentially interesting spot we are always in the mood for checking it out! This place is housed in what is likely the largest building that I have ever seen, maybe save some of the buildings in China. This place is an old blimp hangar and looks really big from the road... 2 miles away. We decided to check it out on our way out of town. This is one of the cooler museum spots we've ever been to. It's so massive that they can fit actual huge planes inside. It was an incredible time for the kids to be able to check out these giant machines, and learn a little bit about the history of the wars fought in the US. One of the more impressive things that we found here, was actually the model battle scenes. They have models of nearly every major war that has ever been fight, and even as somebody who is not a history buff, these things were insanely impressive. Very detailed, they presented a lot of good information, and ultimately it was an incredible place to learn about things that are going on in our military past. It wasn't overly expensive, and this is a place that you could absolutely spend half a day if there are things that you have an interest in. Even if you're not a history or military buff, this is absolutely worth checking out!

This place is a gem! My husband loves aviation, and the Tillamook Air Museum exceeded our expectations. The fact that the museum is in one of, if not, the largest wooden building in the world was such a draw. Admission is only $13 for adults and cheaper tickets for kids, seniors, and the military. It is truly MASSIVE. There was even a picture of 8 blimps at once! There was even equipment there for filling helium canisters for the blimps, which is something that I have never seen before. We got to see one of the F-14 Tomcats that was in Top Gun! They have a large variety of airplanes, tractors, and an exhibit of plane engines. The airplanes there are a mix of ones used by the military, for personal use, and commercially. One of my favorite parts of the museum was getting to explore part of an airplane from the 1970's! The seats had funky covering and bright carpet. The seats were much larger and much more comfortable than modern commercial planes. It even had a mannequin with a time frame specific uniform and music from the 1970's playing. The mini guppy out front was an interesting exhibit. It is amazing that it ever flew. They even have a café that is open on Saturday and Sunday. Rating from F to A+++, I give it an A+++!

HUGE hangar with wide variety of civilian and military aircraft to choose from

We found this place by driving by the MASSIVE hangar that you can see from the 101. I wasn't sure what it was so we took a detour to do some exploring. Apparently, this is the serving hangar from twins that were built during WWII to support the Navy's blimp fleet. I was not aware of this program but it was really cool to see such a massive structure in the middle of nowhere. Inside they have a wide variety of military and civilian planes (that honestly just seem like a mix of whatever they could get their hands on) They are clearly early in the fundraising process and I hope that they can gain some more traction. This could be an amazing aircraft museum if it only got a some more money. One thing to note: Although we did not eat anything here, the food coming from the stand in the lobby smelled AMAZING. They had all sorts of barbecue on the menu and I would have tried some if we weren't on our way to the Tillamook Creamery afterwards.

This place is so neat. Came here for a couple hours to kill some time with the kids and we all had a great time. It really makes you feel like you've been transported back in time. The hangar itself is massive and helps you imagine America's herculean effort to defeat evil in the world. Inside there are a variety of old planes, trains, and other World War II items that are just really neat to see. My kids loved getting to sit in some of the cockpits, do a scavenger hunt, and there's also a kids area to play in. Prices were very reasonable. I learned that my 5 year old is terrified of mannequins (not the kind at the mall, but ones with eyes). I'd definitely come back here again.

How have I not rated this stop already! My bad ! It's a killer stop only second to the Tillamook Cremery. And I love love love planes and this did not disappoint. It's a huge WWII era hanger. Big, cold wet and damp inside. But the planes and the history was so amazing. Cars , planes , military and private makes this a great stop. If your an aviation person makes this a stop for sure. I loved it.

Just a 10 minute drive from the popular Tillamook creamery or a 1.5h drive from Portland, this gigantic hangar museum is a great way to spend an hour or why not two. I didn't even know about it until I drove by! The F-14 Tomcat is in awesome shape and there is a ladder leading up to view the cockpit. Lots of effort was put into the World War II displays and I've never seen an air raid bunker before. The airplanes and a locomotive are dwarfed in size in this hangar which used to house multiple K class blimps for Naval reconnaissance and convoys, active between 1943-48. It also looks like they are readying an F-4 phantom cockpit for sitting and viewing. They also have a large store and serve fries & burgers.

My sons loved climbing in the cockpits of various planes to scope out the controls.

This is a must do activity when you're in the area. The hangar is MASSIVE and I can hardly believe it's made of wood (necessary because metal was needed for the war effort when this was constructed). So many planes to see. My sons loved getting to climb in to several cockpits. There are also cars, helicopters, and a few other exhibits. We had a great time. I also appreciated that they had RV parking right out front.

    Antique firetrucks
    Robin Z.

More in there then ever expected. Vintage planes, antique fire fighting equipment, WWII displays. A true honorable display to more then just aviation.

Pappy Boyington, WWII commander of the black sheep squadron, flew one of these.

The complex Covers four buildings. Two of them are for the museum, one of the buildings holds a giant screen movie theater that screens, some amazing aviation related movies, and the fourth building is an indoor waterpark, complete with a retired 747 parked on the roof. The emergency exits to the 747 are entrances to the waterslides. The primary building, where the spruce goose is located, covers aircraft from a replica of the original Wright Brothers flyer, to modern military aircraft. The secondary building, is the space, museum. It has aircraft such as the SR 71 blackbird, a model of the Apollo, lunar lander, and other space related exhibits. You can easily spend hours here. Admission is reasonable, and they offer discounts for military/veterans, seniors, youth, and local residents. Annual memberships are also available. To see the Spruce goose I highly recommend the flight deck tour. It's $25 on top of the museum admission, not cheap, but without it, all you really see is the entranceway of the plane. I took the tour, it was a 45 minute tour, it goes through the entire plane, and the docent talked about the whole history of the plane, it's different components, etc..... It was originally a prototype for a massive cargo plane, but because it was not completed by the end of WWII, there were no others made. It only flew one time, and there was a really cool recording of a reporter who was actually on the plane for that flight. It's definitely worth the visit.
