I've slowly come back into doing cross-stitch and it's been tough to find a local store with supplies, designs, and hand-dyed floss and fabric. There were a few kits at Reddi-Arts prior to their closure, but I haven't found much that isn't, at least, an hour drive away now. While the cross-stitch/embroidery section was a bit smaller than I hoped, I was excited to find some great Satsuma Street designs, some hand-dyed thread, and some different fabrics that were available. I definitely could come by with a floss color key and gather all I need for any project. I didn't get a chance to fully explore the books or even get into where the majority of PV Arts & Crafts fabric is held, but I'm looking forward to my next trip to delve in even more. As I was on my lunch, I didn't have too much time to poke around further into the store, so I'll have to make a return trip when I don't have a time restriction. This is a spot that is much bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside, and everyone would benefit for having some time to explore.

It is one of those stores that you know you can't afford a damn thing, but your going in anyway! They also share the space with Simonida Professional Consignment Services. Actually, the prices aren't bad separately, but as with art, add in the frame and you can easily be set back a few hundred. Their selection has some brilliant pieces to choose from and I found a few I would enjoy owning.

This is not a heavily reviewed category on Yelp so I briefly read the reviews and picked Chao. Easy to find on 3rd St at the beach. It's in the same plaza as Metro Diner but at the other end. We popped in on a Saturday and were promptly greeted and attended to. We were able to look around a bit but also received some suggestions on what the staff thought would look nice which is always appreciated. We had it narrowed down to a few options and then talked amongst ourselves to make the final selection. The nice young lady entered the order into the computer and the manager or owner stepped in and told her to apply a discount which was super cool. They told us our order would be ready in a couple of weeks and sure enough they called on time to inform us it was ready. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, super selection of frames to choose from and the quality of the work was terrific!

I love being able to go into a framing shop, and actually get input and advice from the framers. They always have great ideas for some of the quirky pieces we have brought to them, and they always seem genuinely excited to help and collaborate on ideas. Their pricing is to par as well. About middle of the road considering how many things I have had framed. In the end, as long as I am in Jax I will continue to seek their services.
