    Loving my new look!
    K. H.

I needed a freshen up on my hair color and was hoping to try a new style. I found Art + Science via yelp reviews and was fortunate to get an appointment. Ended up being the best hair-based decision I have ever made. I'm not trying to be dramatic but I think my credit score jumped twenty points and I grew two inches taller when Paul revealed this cut! (Are my teeth straighter or is it just this amazing new look I'm pulling off?) Seriously, I have never left a salon feeling happier. The staff here blew me away. It shows when people are specialists and love their craft! Ally did a fantastic job fixing a balayage that had grown out. My resulting color is lovely! Paul took over and gave me a gorgeous cut and style. Together they were able to create an experience and a look that I am thrilled with. I cannot recommend these stylists or Art + Science enough!

I recently moved to Chicago and was nervous to find a new hairdresser as I've always gonna to the same girl from my hometown who did all of my creative color. However, I once I came to Art + Science I felt comforted by the staff. I did a color consultation and they set me up with Cole, who they felt would be best for my hair situation. Cole blew away my expectations. She truly cared about doing a thorough, amazing job. I absolutely loved my grey hair and when I was ready for a change she perfectly dyed it to the blue I wanted. She knows how to dye my hair these colors while still keeping it healthy. I cannot recommenced this salon enough, so happy I found this place!

My appointment at the Evanston location got canceled because the hair dresser was sick. That turned out ok, because they were able to reschedule an appointment for the same day. Lura was wonderful! She was every patient and explained everything she did and way she used the products she did. She did a great job. I had a hair cut and a beard trim. I highly recommend Lura.

I received horrible color service by Ivan. Asked for full highlights - cooler rather than red/copper/orange. Got up-sold on balayage. Results were blue/green hair with untouched bottom-half (had layers so looked bad). The next day, he wanted to 'fix' it by detoxing (undoing) toner that I paid for! He also had the nerve of saying the photo I brought in for reference yesterday was blue hair! I stopped countering with him on this because I was getting frustrated by his obvious incompetence, because, 1) for a fact that hair wasn't blue as it was my friend's hair I screenshot from her Yelp page and 2) the stylist that colored her hair is my usual stylist from Goran Coban Salon who can corroborate that the hair isn't blue nor did he tone it with any blue shade. But sure... keep on talking loudly about the hair being blue, Ivan. After the detox, my hair came out a neon copper/orange color. Everything is documented in photos I'm attaching to this review. Total was $145. Down the drain it went and I had to spend another $160 to get another salon to fix it - also shown on photos. Tried getting a refund/partial, but my inquiries were never returned/addressed... still waiting. Skip this place.

I have been coming to this salon for over two years. Originally, I was coloring my hair light pink; I have then gone to white blonde, then grey. Every colorist has done a fantastic job; I always get so many compliments on my color! I also have my hair cut here occasionally, and it is always exactly what I want (or better)! If you are looking for a cut, go to Lauren or Hannah. If you need color (especially a fun jewel tone) go to Cole!! The best salon in the Chicago area!!

    I. LOVE. This salon. I came in to refresh my color (I'm currently rocking a grey bang) and Ivan was able to take care of me, no drama, and the color came out not only gorgeous but EXACTLY the way I wanted. He really listened to me, which I appreciated. I was blown out by Andy who was WONDERFUL, asked me how I blew my hair out, what products I wanted, and gave one of the best blowouts I've ever received. She also seemed to have a real understanding of my texture (her hair is naturally straight) and listened to all of my instructions. I left the salon with big, fluffy, beautifully colored hair and happy as a lark. Lol

Shana rocks my socks. I like doing fun stuff with my hair, especially when it comes to color and Shana is the perfect one to go to when you're looking to color your hair. I have jet black hair so when I do color my hair I tend to go for the ombre style in coloring because it's also easier for me to maintain. Shana does a great job in listening to what you want done and is great at recommending ways to maintain the color (with use of products/when to come back in for a gloss, etc.). The first time I got my hair colored by Shana was in the fall and I went with a red..when I went back a few weeks ago she showed me the same color tone that I went with last time but also recommended another color that would brighten it up so I added in fuchsia as well. The color came out amazing and I totally love it!!! I am trying to grow out my hair but also want to let it grow out while making sure my hair is still healthy so I decided to cut & thin out out my hair since it's super thick. Becca was really great in styling my hair and definitely listened to what I wanted..maintaining the length. (I've been to other salons where I told the stylist I just wanted to trim the split ends, keep the length but ended up with my hair being 1-2" shorter than I came in) Becca did a great job in styling my hair and I really loved the way it turned out. I also really liked the mop product she used in my hair that was a lemongrass hairspray. Art + Science is a great salon if you're looking for a more edgy look or even something classic. It's also a great salon for guys too, my bf gets his hair cut here by Katie. I told him he needed to update his hairstyle and he's been going back to Art + Science ever since. ;)

The photo I showed my colorist, Cole, vs what my hair actually turned out to be....not a good experience here, needless to say

My hair was damaged, uneven, and honestly I was scared to try again. Lira changed everything. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

What disappointed me most was not only the result, but the way my concerns were handled afterward. Instead of taking responsibility for the result and trying to understand why I was unhappy, the stylist repeatedly shifted the conversation toward blaming me. I was made to feel that the problem was somehow related to my language barrier and cultural differences in communication. At one point, the conversation even became about money and what I had paid for -- essentially, "You didn't pay for the whole highlight, right?" -- which felt completely inappropriate and shaming. I have never experienced this level of disrespect or lack of accountability in a beauty salon. I left feeling sad, embarrassed, and unwelcome, when I had simply come in expecting professional service and to be heard as a client. I want to be clear that I don't believe this experience represents the values of the entire salon or its owners. My issue is specifically with this individual stylist and the way he handled a situation when the result did not meet my expectations. I am sharing this so other women, especially those who may have a language or cultural communication difference, know to make sure their concerns are genuinely listened to and treated respectfully. A client should never be made to feel guilty or ashamed for expressing disappointment with a service.
