He suggested me the things that every basic people in the industry will know it's unprofessional and only a rookie will probably use stuff like that. And he kept telling me that everything in his shelf can be used. And that's just plain ridiculous. I haven't been to this place for a very long time because of the last unhappy incident and I always stock up a lot of stuff. And just because you change the brand that you carry and just because I don't use the brand that you carry, that doesn't mean that I don't know about things. And just because I don't have a cool tattoo or look like a pretentious artist, it doesn't mean you can fool me with your unprofessional suggestions. And just because you have a ponytail, it doesn't mean you are an artist as well, so be polite and treat people with respect. Been coming here 20 years i recently went in & everyone was very nice but the thin haired blonde girl at the cash register treated me very differently from other customers. She seemed to stereo type me maybe thought I was stealing or was broke. Other customers she was very friendly and warm and when it was my turn she was very cold and short ( I was actually going to compliment her & tell her she should be a dj because she was so smooth talking with the other customers but when it was my turn it was like a door shut. Night & day. Then she took a long time to make sure the bills I handed were real & even got 2nd opinions from her co workers if my bills were real. Never said please/ thank you nothing of the sort & when she handed me my change she intentionally stabbed me with her sharp nail & put force into it. This used to be my go-to art store back when I was in art school. The selection of art supplies was the best and most appropriately priced that I could find in So Cal! Late last year I needed to find three 40 x 40" gallery wrap canvases and I searched online for the best deal. Dick Blick had a great deal on their website, but they charged over $100 for shipping! Yowza! Swain's in Glendale also had them for a good price, but they only had 2 in stock when I called. When I called ASW, they really came through. They told me that I would only have to pay about $20 for shipping to Burbank. I couldn't believe it! These canvases are huge, but so cheap to ship to me! Who knew? I put in an order with them that day with Victor. Victor was so helpful, emailing promptly when he got the final cost of the shipping together. It ended up being $23.30 for shipping. I suspect they didn't charge me a handling fee? Thanks!! Each canvas was also well priced at $52.80. That is a great deal for such large canvases! Victor let me know via email the exact day I could expect the shipment. He even emailed in the morning that day to remind me to expect the package. What service! There are times I wish I was a student. This thought always consumes me when I'm in Art Supply Warehouse, not because I was a stud in college or because I was that male model that stood nude in the middle of a circle of sketching art students... it's because I want that student discount when checking out. I don't even know how many years I've been coming here. Over 15 years at least. ASW has always been the best art supply store in the area, outsurviving now defunct Aaron Brothers and Pearl art stores in the Huntington Beach/Westminster area. Their prices are always very competitive. There are some basic items that you can get a few cents cheaper at Target (like bulk packs of Sharpies or highlighters), but for the most part it's not enough of a difference for you to leave the store empty handed. If you are a pen freak like me, you might find yourself mesmerized for an hour by all the different choices. .1 mm, .5 mm, .7 mm pens. Permanent. Not permanent. Watercolor pens. Paint pens. Ballpoint. Fountain. For each type of pen they usually care about three competing brands for you to choose from. Pastels, watercolors, oils, canvases, posters, poster tubes, stationery, blank cards, art books, spray cans, x-acto knives, it's all there, pretty much anything you need. In the back left corner of the store is the clearance rack. Over there is where I found the "I hear voices" lady. She was looking at the rack. I walked behind her to look at the rack from the side, two feet behind her. She said, "So rude! I'll just leave so you can look." It's a store lady. Anyone is free to look at the shelves. I didn't reach around or over her. I didn't creep next to her. I didn't push her cart out of the way. I didn't say anything to her. I only went to the side to look because her not-so-tiny body blocked the view of more of the shelves than China blocks internet sites. She seemed like she was one of those weird old ladies that always asks for a price check. And behind her in line, on cue, she asks for a price check. My inner self tells me I should be an artist. I was the guy that made my own Christmas cards for years (yes, I made Christmas cards). I couldn't have done it without Art Supply Warehouse. I stopped making cards a couple of years ago, but I'm still addicted to the pens. And those cute, slightly awkward, artsy type girls in art supply stores. Thank you for both ASW! read more

My company has a secret Santa deal with one of our departments. My recipient is a graphic artist that spends countless hours doodling on a pad. No, silly, not an iPad. I was advised that this place had all kinds of stuff to choose from so I headed there after work. Lots of parking and a huge store. Yes, an art supply warehouse. I was as lost as a bar mitzvah boy on Christmas morning. They had a huge number of employees that all looked the part. Not a GQ type or bikini model in the bunch. We're talkin' artist types with wacky shaved beards, piercings and the like. One of them was really cool and hooked me up with a killer mechanical pencil, several types of drawing lead, tricked out mechanical erasers and a nice high end sketch book. Although the store's name doesn't scream "excitement." It also doesn't leave much room for confusion either.Lol. To foster our kiddos' love for drawing and color obssesion, I was on a mission to find a store that sold markers individually. When I called, the gentleman kindly informed me that they had a whole wall full of markers. Yes! Upon entrance our eyes were wide with glee. My kid was in marker heaven; super giddy. He couldn't contain himself and went ape wild. There truly was a wall full of MARKERS ranging from $0.84 to $7 (probably a few pricier ones too). There was a plethora of options which included: metallic, fine tips, brush tips, sharpie, dual tips and all a multitude of color selections. *TIP: feel free to test them out. Scratch paper provided. After we went bonkers over the markers, we perused around the store. They had canvas boards, paper, fabrics, paint brushes, oils, cool cartoon and ANIME nicknacks, corky satirical items, candy, and just about anything you need to indulge in your creativity. TID BITS: -Service: Friendly, easy going and carefree. Definitely an artist's mentality. -Parking: Lot is small and cramped. I like writing and practicing my penmanship on my free time, so I shop here for all my pens, pencils, drawing/writing paper. I'm usually here stuck walking around for awhile despite I'm only there to pick up a few items because there are so many art tools to choose from. I like to observe and test out the pens, markers, or pencils are the scratch pad to check to see which one fits my needs or preference. The staff are always helpful and friendly. This was such a gem to find! Happened to be in the area and went in since my sister is the artist in the family. They have a lot of drawing pads/books, construction paper, tracing paper, fabric, pens, paint (and oil paint) and SO much more. I'm more of a doodler so I seriously appreciated the aisle full of pens I can't find at a regular craft store! (at least in that supply) They had Copic, Micron and Prismacolor pens which are my absolute favorite. Spent a good 20 minutes just browsing all their pens. It's a neat store. I've been coming to Art Supply Warehouse for over 15 years. Hands down the best art supply store in Orange County and Los Angeles. They're well stocked, they care about the quality of their products and are very helpful and knowledgeable. Plus they have great prices. Today was the first time I've actually had a problem (they didn't have the sketchbook I wanted and they didn't have it stocked last time either). The manager noticed I looked a bit miffed (I didn't realize I was looking annoyed, I'm normally quiet about my emotions) and came over to ask if he could help even though he was in the middle of stocking. He's the manager. He could have easily been too busy or sent one of the other employees but he took the time. I really didn't think I could love this art store more but dang. A+ forever. read more

A pretty good art store "especially" for the OC area. They have a lot of things, most of which is in the right place. But really, you just have to roam around the aisles and look at stuff - that's the fun part! Aside from the supplies, the book section is pretty decent. It's really unorganized though. They also have a handful of kitschy gift type of stuff, like that Kid Robot stuffs....Yeah, just lots of STUFF. We spent a good hour in here. Found everything we needed and more. I wish their paper collection included more graphic prints like from Snow & Graham/Elum/Wooster Collective, etc. But they don't have those kinds of papers. I suppose I have to stick with Paper Source/Urbanic Paper/Paper Mojo online/etc. Oh well, there are other resources! They do, however, have a lot of other kinds of papers that are fun to look at. The prices here are fair. They are not amazing or overpriced. They receive most of their products at about -50% and then mark-up from there................I noticed though, that the Moleskin journals they have are quite overpriced compared to Amazon or even the Moleskin site itself........weird. There is one particular service person that was really helpful. I didn't catch his name....He's an older gentleman with glasses and long hair. He found us decent paper to try pens/pencils on and also showed us how to refill ink on a fancy schmancy pen. He was also helping this annoying customer with her kid's school project. Art Supply warehouse is the best! For the largest selection of EVERYTHING and low prices, I will drive all the way from Rancho just to go to Art Supply. We were headed towards Long Beach this past weekend, so I couldn't pass up an opportunity to stop in, especially since I had a few framing projects in mind, and this is THE place for mat stock! I probably spent an hour just browsing all the aisles and getting ideas for future projects, before finally pulling the mats I wanted to buy. There isn't anything that they don't have that an artist, draftsperson, painter, sculptor, illustrator, etc could want. Everyone who works there is incredibly knowledgeable about the products and how to achieve a desired affect. I always overhear employees discussing how to use something, or what they should be looking for, or how to fix something every time I shop here. Last weekend it was a guy with a vintage (read: old) airbrush pump and pen, and the employee was telling him what parts he needed to replace to get it going again, and how to check the pump to make sure it was worth still using, and giving him pointers on techniques to try. Once I started cutting my own mats, I found out that this is the best place to get mat stock. Aaron Brothers locally carries maybe 25 different colors, and they only have one brand and type to choose from for front mats. Their price on mat board is I think $14 now, and if they have a color I want to use, I usually just wait and use a 40% coupon to buy it, but I don't like choosing my colors for a project based solely on what Aaron Brothers has for sale (by the way, you can't order whole boards of any of the wide selection available for custom framing, I don't know how many different people I've asked to try and make it happen!) I didn't try to count how many different mat boards, colors, textures, finishes Art Supply has, but most of the whole back wall of the store is devoted to mat stock. There's at least a 25 feet long span of slots top and bottom for all kinds of board. They carry a bigger selection of the AlphaMat ArtCare that Aaron Bros has, not to mention all the other types. Oh, and their regular price on the AlphaMat boards is like $8. They have velvet/suede textured mats, some really cool metallic mats, I'm sorry I didn't take a picture, but the selection is awesome! I got this really neat black on black woodgrain textured mat, and a sort of leather looking mat, and a really awesome copper metallic mat. It has sort of a crisscrossing grain to it, and is sort of a dull shiny mat, and really looks like copper clad PCB material. I can't wait to use it! Art Supply Warehouse should be your first stop for art supplies. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the store is pretty well organized for having so many different products. It can get a little crowded during the weekdays during the school year, especially right near the begining of a new quarter/semester, but we went this past Memorial day weekend on Friday, right during lunch time, and there were maybe a dozen people shopping total. read more

Prof Smith was right...this place has it all, at very good prices. I'm a person who shops with coupons at Micheal's, and Micheal's is hard to beat. Art Supply Warehouse of Westminster has a bigger selection of excellent art supplies, (some I've never heard of) and they offer extensive brand names to help the starting artist - or the established famous artists of our times. David was especially helpful to me when I went there yesterday to buy some art supplies for my oil painting class at Saddleback College. They have some cheap easels for plein air, they have some neat oil paints, and oil brush selections, they have bargains all over the store! Loved this place, I'm taking an art class at Goldenwest College and had to go buy a huge list of art supplies, and this place had everything you would need, and even better: they have class kits, which is basically all the supplies you would need for a certain class all in one package, with a discounted price. It helps save you time and money. However silly me found out about this after just buying the majority of supplies I would need but I was grateful to find out that their refund policy allowed me to return all the items I purchased and simply buy the class kit.
