Please read this entire entry before visiting Artessa. This is not a hate rant, or an angry exaggeration. This is my honest account of my experience with Artessa. We are eagerly counting down the days for our lease to expire. This place has seriously gone downhill ever since Alliance has taken over ownership and turned what was formerly known as The Lodge, into Artessa. This property used to be one of the best apartments I have ever lived at, but Alliance has quickly turned it into one of the worst. When we first moved in, the staff was friendly and easily accessible. The staff at the time was very knowledgeable and took the time to take care of its residents. However, once it became Artessa, the office staff was completely replaced by a group of young women who have very little experience dealing with communal based issues and usually can't provide any concrete answers. I used to be able to call the office and speak with someone, but now I'm greeted with an automated answering service, and the only way to talk to someone is if you are a future resident looking to rent. If you are a current resident, you have to leave a message, but doing so is pointless because I have never once been called back. If I have a question for the office, I have to walk there and hope they aren't out showing an apartment. Artessa also chose to get rid of over half of the dog waste bag dispensers and trash cans, so now there is dog waste everywhere. You literally have to stare at the ground if you walk in the grass, or you might step in dog waste. They also built a very small dog park (right behind the horrible smelling trash compacter) where they perform little to no maintenance. There is also dog waste everywhere inside the dog park, so taking your dog there to run around is pointless, unless you want to clean dog waste off of your pet and shoes. About the dog waste: I understand that the staff at Artessa can't be held responsible for what their tenants do or don't do. However, when we moved in, we were assured that the maintenance staff walks the ground EVERY MORNING, and removes the dog waste. This was a problem at our last apartment complex, so I was sure to ask about it before we moved in here. When this place was The Lodge, they were true to their word, and I rarely saw any dog waste on the ground. Now, there is dog waste on every patch of grass. Artessa also added a mandatory valet waste service. They provide you with a trash can that you leave out front of your apartment. I detest the idea of trash sitting outside my door, attracting bugs and pests. So now, I have to pay an additional $35 so someone can take my trash and walk it 20ft to the trash compacter. I asked them if I can opt out of this service because my unit is so close to the compacter, and I have no problem throwing my own trash away. I was told no and that it was a part of the new lease agreement and that I could not opt out. I still throw my own trash away anyway, because I don't like bugs, pests, and smelly trash sitting in front of the place I reluctantly call home. The maintenance staff is mediocre at best. I have had several leaks in my apartment, due to a leaky dishwasher, and a toilet supply line. Maintenance repaired the toilet and replaced the dishwasher, but did absolutely nothing about the wet walls and damaged base board! I put in a special request on the work order for them to address the damaged walls and base and they would not do it. We had mosquitos in our apartment for a week because the walls were so wet, and I had to hire a company myself to come out and address the wet walls. They fix as little as possible and replace appliances with used appliances that most likely broke once before. If you are looking for a luxury apartment, don't let the amenities fool you. If you work a normal 9-5 job, you won't have access to any of them, except the pool and gym, which you can find at nearly every apartment community. Look elsewhere, and get your money's worth. If you are looking for a basic apartment, look elsewhere, because Artessa fails to meet even the most basic of standards. I'm trying to point out some good qualities about this place so my review isn't all bad news but I'm finding that task next to impossible. The property itself was a beautiful, gorgeous landscape that really felt like a secret oasis in the middle of this desert. Unfortunately, the scene of beauty that was once The Lodge, has been plagued by trash cans swarming with flies, and piles of dog waste nestled in the fading and dying grass, that is Artessa. read more

It is an older apartment with older features. As out-dated as the apartments are rent should definitely be much cheaper. However, the staff is kind and friendly and they have kept the apartments up fairly well. My biggest complaints would be both the lack of communication about the trash disposal system, as well as the trash disposal system itself, how far the mailboxes are, and the assigned parking spots; If there are 2 people on the lease then you should get 2 parking spots! Also, those parking spots should be positioned way closer to your front door. read more

Love the pool, salt room, gym, arcade, and lounge area but can only be in there the hours that they are open which isn't convenient at all for anyone I have super good service the last 6 months I've lived here. But of course the hottest weekend in Arizona it gets to 120 degrees outside our AC goes out! Leaving our apartment at 95 degrees!! We had them come out to fix it and they said they couldn't bc they didn't have the part to fix it so they have to come back the next day..waited for them to finally come out and was told that we are now on a "list" to get out AC looked at. Finally the guy come out and looks at the AC...literally just looked at the monitor and says "I'll go downstairs and look at the box" but never comes back. I go downstairs to see if he's there and he's gone. They provided a tiny air vent fan for the living room but its doing nothing. read more

We just moved here and had a maintenance issue on fathers day, and maintenance was there in 20 minutes. I am so far very impressed with this community. read more

I am moving from Alaska, so taking the time to fly to Arizona and apartment hunt was a pushing it budget wise. Artessa was the 3rd apartment we had seen that day and as far as customer service went; Artessa was the most professional and accommodating. I had scheduled an appointment for 11am, got there a couple of minutes prior. Jaime greeted us and let us know Chris, who our appointment was booked with, was assisting another couple and would be back shortly. After about 3 minutes Jaime let us know Chris would be a bit longer and offered to do the tour himself. The property was well kept, the tenants we saw seemed to be nice enough, and the parking lot looked to be newly painted. The apartments we saw were beautiful; no outward damage or unexplainable smells, the flow of each layout used the space nicely. The application process was quick, we were approved within 1 business day. I am back in Alaska at the time of this review and I have been going back and forth with Chris to get our lease setup and signed. I spoke with Chris on the 16th or the 17th, and I still havent seen the electronic lease in my email. He did reach out on the 24th, and I'm sure it's a little more difficult to get everything together since we are not face to face, hopefully I will receive the lease by Friday. read more

After touring tons of apartments in the area this just felt like home right away. The people working there are so kind and funny and personable. Sarah took us around and we bonded over our love of dogs as she showed us our future home. She was an excellent tour guide and gave us a very thorough explanation of the policies and process to rent, and made the whole process so easy and simple. It's a beautiful complex with really cool and unique floor plans. I am so excited to call Artessa home. read more

We lived here before for over a year and absolutely loved it! The place is beautiful,the staff was great,and the maintenance people were great and would be there right away if we had any problems.We had to move out to a cheaper place due to some personal reasons but we are now moving back and are so excited. I loved living here and never had one problem the whole time we were there. I've missed living there and cannot wait to go back. The price is worth it,it doesn't feel like an apartment complex it feels like a little community. read more

Yes, we have a new manager here and I know she is trying to fix things. However, we have many vehicles here with expired license plates or no plates at all. First time I have ever lived in a "luxury" apartment where you are allowed to store recreational vehicles in assigned covered spots for YOUR CAR. This takes up the few unassigned spots near the buildings for others to park as these people take those places as well. There us lots of unassigned parking but not in any convenient locations. Have noticed a difference in the type of people moving in, NOT the type you'd expect to be living in a luxury complex. This was always the best most upscale property in the area. I watched it be built when I lived near by. I can't say this any longer. The property is beautiful and you don't hear noise from the outside when in your apartment. I'm leaving in 2 weeks. Rent is very high for what you get. Wish the had a play area for the children. I will update one more time when I leave and let you know how the move out went and how quickly I received my deposit read more

We've lived here for almost 3 years now and have no desire to move. The grounds are well kept and the complex is very quiet. Our apartment is a two bedroom-two bath and ideal for us. I work from home and use the 2nd bedroom as my office. The complex has been totally renovated from top to bottom and they are also doing the individual apartments. A great place to live! read more

I previously gave a 3 star review but I am amending my review to one star as of today (09/22/16) based on the continued lack of service I've experienced at this community. First, the price tag of this place is so enormous that I am moving into a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house (just down the road) for the same price as a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom at Artessa. I had a guest (new to coming to the community) who accidentally parked in a covered space (which I was not aware of or I would have told her to move). When she left my apartment she had no car. Apparently, there was a "policy reinstatement" (all residents were not made aware of this change) which allows certain residents who have issues with parking to call and have a car towed, on their own, without management or security approval. When I contacted management they said it was a legal tow and they refused any kind of concession. Additionally, they continually described it as an "inconvenience". Which honestly, having no car, trying to find your car (which we thought had been stolen), needing a ride home, needing a ride to pick the car up, missing school, missing work and having to pay $135 is not an inconvenience. It is also not something that should occur for a one time mistake. There should be a note or security or management involvement; not just people being allowed to have cars towed at their own discretion. When you live downstairs the noise from upstairs is very loud (it's not just noisy neighbors, it's just the building construction unfortunately). When the neighbors shut the door it has knocked my pictures off the walls. My best friend lived here too for 3 years and had water leaks from upstairs 4 times causing horrible mold and damage. One time it brought down the roof of the garage onto her car and the management made no attempt to compensate her for the damage to her car. Maintenance has always responded right away to my requests but not always fixed things; for instance my washer leaks but they could not find the leak so didn't fix it. So every time i do laundry there is water leaking. The dishwasher does not wash the dishes (it runs but the dishes always come out dirty - and yes I rinse them first) but they did not fix this either. I think the problems with the appliances will change when the apartment is updated to the new appliances (I still have the old ones). There are ants, cockroaches and more mosquitoes than I've ever seen in my life (I just killed 7 mosquitoes in 2 days). I request pest spraying (and you pay for it on your rent) but to no avail. I have to fight bugs daily. One of the worst things about this place is paying $35 a month for Valet Waste (plus you pay Glendale trash; so you are paying over $40 a month just for trash!!). You are forced to have Valet Waste, it is not an option. This is crazy and I think contributes to the bugs because there is constantly trash outside of each apartment. This apartment is in a very desirable location and could be great but they need to make some adjustments. The amenities (which include theater, gym, salt spa, arcade and pool) are OK but do not by any means make the price tag worth it. All apartments have some issues but it is the overwhelming price tag and lack of service that makes this place not worth living in. It is also very sad when the staff do not find all equally residents valuable. A good, clean, quiet tenant who has never caused any problems or damage throughout the life of a lease can have one mistake and pay very heavily for it; but another tenant can have the power to have people's cars towed at their own discretion. This is something that can be easily abused and it is unfortunate. Beware when renting here. read more

We lived here about 11 months before we transferred to another location in town. This place is amazing! The office staff is great. The maintenance is great, they're even pretty to look at :) comparing where we are now to Artessa, I would give anything to be able to move back. read more

I have lived at these apartments for over 3 years....The only good thing that made us stay was the old leasing agent Joe. They have since then been playing musical chairs with employees. I have seen about 4-5 managers, 5 or more assistants, and about 3 leasing agents...makes it not very personal when the person you rented from is no longer there 2 months later. I was told it was because alliance res likes to ROTATE people....no its probably because the employees aren't performing so they have a short lease and fire them asap! The grounds are immaculate in front of the office...everywhere else has dead grass, trash, and the landscaping looks like it was designed by a 5 year old. Maintenance has been great since day 1, they get my work orders done quick fast and in a hurry. Now lets get into why this review is a 1 star (if I could do less I would) They have this stupid service called Valet waste...it's a waste of money, they charge all the residents 35 extra per month for this stupid service that basically lets people be lazy and just LEAVE trash by their front doors...ever since this service has started there have been more and more bugs. The office staff is rude especially the assistant manager, she acts like she knows it all and she can do no wrong. She should be sent to customer service school and be retaught how to be NICE to people and not shrug them off when she doesn't care. The leasing agent seems like they never trained her how to do things and she had to figure it out on her own. If I were you I would spend A LOT less than 1000 on a one bedroom and go to other apt complexes. Oh and the office will say "water usually runs between 25-35 dollars a month" HAH! It runs about 50-80 a month and that's because they charge residents for the water they use to fill the pool, the water the dirt (not grass its all dead in most places) and for residents to use a AMENITIY (the gas grill) the more people use it the higher the bill. They literally have these hidden charges to make more money even though their over charging for their apartments because they put new appliances in....I refuse to live at a Alliance property and Im glad my lease is up in a few months because I cannot get out of here quick enough! read more

The only reason this apartment complex has 5 stars from anyone is because they waive your application fee if you write them a 5 star review. I moved across the country (from PA to AZ) and had my apartment secured for 3-4 weeks prior to moving. When I arrived to my "newly renovated apartment" after driving for 3 days, I should have just walked out and rented a hotel for my 3 month stay here in AZ. I walked into paint trailing up the carpet, the bathroom with a huge puddle of water from a leaky sink, no hinge to the dishwasher, a broken refridgerator (which took an entire week to get replaced), my bathtub was grouted shut, there were nails from a nail gun ALL over the new carpet, no washer/dryer exhaust or hot water hook up, broken shelves in all of the cupboards, a dirty outdoor patio. The list literally goes on. Moving across the country and being welcomed by this was absolutely disgusting. After all of this, I wanted to speak with the manager (who is always busy or out of her office), I left a note with my name and number, I left a voicemail with my name and number, and I told the front desk boy my name and number. Still no call back. To continue with negatives... my front yard is dirt, the entrance gate has been broken since we moved in, the dog park is located next to the OVERFLOWING dumpsters we pay $35 a month for, the hot tub is either cold or the jets don't work. There is an overabundance of birds, resulting in bird poop everywhere. They allow 2 dogs per apartment complex but don't supply adequate dog waste bins. So now there is bird poop and dog poop everywhere. The grills never have propane, the pool floor is always dirty. To say this place is sanitary would be a sin. The "awesome" amenities are only available M-F 9-5. This place is seriously a nightmare. We were told we would be paying $1350 for a one bedroom apartment, but they forgot to tell us about all of the hidden fees so we are now paying $1550. Save your money and find yourself a clean and reliable place! read more
