I really loved the classes we've learned a lot. But instructors VERY PUSHY on getting yiu to purchase classes. They get your reasons you want classes and then keep reminding you of why you should continue with classes. The music is so all over the place makes it VERY DIFFICULT to focus on learning specific dances. They knew why we wanted to learn how to dance and we were asked to pick 5 songs we could practice our dances to and it never happened. We learned enough to continue on our own. My wife and I were overall disappointed with our experience with Arthur Murray Dance Studio Scottsdale. We were having a destination wedding and thought we should do just 1 or 2 classes to prepare for our fairly low key first dance. My wife found the ad for this studio online. First, their advertised "free introductory lesson" never happened as we paid $260 for two thirty minute lessons. There was no defined contract as the instructors came up with the pricing on the fly; there is no defined pricing listed as we could determine. I paid the bill somewhat skeptically. Who knows if our charges were baseline/ reasonable/ comparable to others. $260 per hour of instruction is exorbitant. This place honestly felt like a shady car dealership. The dance instructor was facetiously fawning over us. He was very nice but was totally just blowing sunshine up our a**. "You guys are born naturals. Have you done this before?" Jesus. Just. Stop. The staff kept wanting to upsell us more classes even though we stated that we only desired one or two sessions. There was no way I was going to spend more than what we already paid. The cost was not commensurate with the product. To top it off, on our last session, he told us that we were going to go through one more run through of the full dance with our first dance music that would be video taped. He then just disappeared to dance with another couple - leaving us in the center of the dance floor looking around and wondering if he was coming back. After a while, we just left as it was evident he had just moved on to "instructing" some other couple. All in all; the experience was quite lacking. You can-- and should do better. read more

Great dancing system, friendly and knowledgable staff and a tailored program. My husband and I had so much fun dancing together for the first time here!! HOWEVER, from the moment you walk in, be prepared for the Hard Sell. I bought a 5-lesson intro pack for my husband, and although we loved the dancing, the really pushy salesmanship from the moment we walked in the door slightly tainted the experience for us. We may very well continue dancing here, but the steep prices for a lesson package and pushy sales tactics are keeping us in the "thinking about it" category. If you want to learn to dance, and money is absolutely no object, come here - you won't regret it! Otherwise, think carefully first. Why 3 stars instead of 1 star?? 1. The instruction really was tons of fun and the Arthur Murray system is a strategy that's quite organized, clear and effective. 2. At the end of our package, when we explained that we would have to take at least 6 months away from dancing due to prior commitments, our instructor didn't try to insist that we buy lessons immediately (not a time-share level of selling - think car dealership). 3. Friends of ours tried a different studio in the area for wedding dance lessons and had exactly the same experience - hard sell from the beginning, and exorbitant prices for lessons. Apparently, this is par for the course. Another reviewer posted about a very similar experience. Sadly, I didn't see the post until after we went, or I would have felt far more prepared. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time, but with the craziness of life, finding the time to sit down and write has been difficult. So, briefly, Arthur Murray was awesome! My wife and I worked with the studio to get ready for our wedding dance. We were a little behind in planning for our dance and, with a month to go until the wedding, we decided we wanted to take lessons. My wife was in Scottsdale during the month before the wedding (we live in the Bay Area and the wedding and both of our families are in Scottsdale) and I wouldn't be there until about 2 weeks before, so we were really tight on timing. We needed help fast; thankfully we got in touch with the studio! We set up 3 lessons: one intro lesson to learn some basics and two follow-ups to really get better. Our intro lesson was fun! We learned a few basic steps for our dance and caught on quick. Our follow-up lessons were with Paige. She is...AWESOME! We wanted our dance to feel authentic and simple, rather than feeling too choreographed. We had been to weddings where the couple was focused intently on choreography instead of each other. Paige understood exactly and, instead of teaching us "a dance", she taught us "to dance". She showed us all of the moves we could do so that we could plan the dance ourselves in the moment and just enjoy the experience. We loved our dance and how it all came together. She was incredible. I bought an introductory package for my husband (who is notriously difficult to shop for!) for his birthday last year. After the first 4 lessons, we were hooked. The instructors are all fantastic dancers (lots of awards hanging on the walls to prove how good they really are!), and excellent teachers. We look forward to going a couple of nights per week and are really enjoying learning many different types of dances. The social aspects of the studio are great. All the students -- from kids to 80+ -- get to know one another and everyone is so friendly and supportive. Since our first introductory package we have signed up for another year's worth of lessons (my husband's idea!). I can't imagine having this much fun at any other studio!! read more

We received an intro package of dance lessons as a gift. My husband was not looking forward to the experience as much as I was. However, under the instruction of Jonny, he ended up enjoying himself and gained a lot from the experience. Jonny was able to give us some great tips and make us feel comfortable and more confident on the dance floor. We did not experience a hard sell at all, which we really appreciated. The studio is nice and the ambience is fun. Yesterday my entire mood changed after entering the studio for our lesson. I had had a difficult weekend and a hard day at work and it was all erased in moments. Thank you Jonny! read more

My husband I had a blast learning to dance here. The people are very nice and the instructors know their stuff and are experts in teaching it. That said, I must give warning to anyone who signs up for their introductory lessons to prepared for the HARD SELL. We fell for it and it wasn't made clear to us what we were getting into. Basically, the monthly payment we negotiated (that we could just barely afford) for our lessons effectively made us more and more indebted to them every month without our knowledge. They were giving us lessons beyond what we were paying for. When we decided to call it quits we owed them quite a bit of money! We only got 8 lessons into the 16 we committed to before they approached us to sign up for a higher level and commit MORE money. Thank God they did because that's when we figured out that we already owed them quite a bit. If you have the means to afford $600 a month, I highly recommend this place. If you don't, please learn from us and don't fall for the "we can make it work for you" spiel. read more

One year ago I decided it was finally time to learn how to dance. Specifically I wanted to know how to two-step. Of the many options available, I decided to try Arthur Murray Scottsdale and that proved to be one of the best decisions of my life. The staff and instructors are exceptionally talented. Not only are they amazing dancers, they are also incredible instructors, and genuinely great people. They use a well thought out curriculum from the Arthur Murray organization that makes it very easy to learn the basics and then build on that foundation. I am having so much fun learning to dance that I did not stop at just learning to two-step. Ballroom dancing is so much more than I ever imagined.
