I'm flabbergasted. Dealing with the owner of this studio was like speaking with a child amidst a tantrum. She literally ignored me while I spoke to her and said, "I am not listening to youuuuuu." I brought my child here so that she could have some fun with a friend. My child has been on stage in recitals at church, so I knew she was ready. The day that I brought her in for a trial to see if the class was age-appropriate I was pressured to decide on site if my child wanted to participate in a recital in May (which cost $100 per costume and $150 in recital "fees". I said yes only because they assured me they'd worked with kids before. They couldn't even keep her in the room. They have a range from 2.5 years to almost 6 in the same room, having them stand in one spot for an hour with different instructors each week would sit and just give orders to the kids. In any case, the owner treated me so poorly, berated and ignored me as I tried to open a line of commutation with her. The receptionist is someone who is approachable, but any level of professional or even human treatment it stops there. They offer a summer camp, which is laughable. Who would trust their children with you? Hey T and L, no matter how many times you flag or try to remove my review as you have the others, I will save it, and repost it. This is a matter of principle and you shouldn't get away with treating people this way nor should you have access to children if you don't know to to speak to people. read more

PPAC is where I received my dance training from 4 years old until I was 17. I was a member of the PPAC company where I competed at the national level each year across the USA and Canada. I know that the training I received at PPAC is the reason that I was able to go on and have a legitimate dance career in the professional world. This studio got me ready for my dance training in college and I owe it to the fabulous faculty and guest teachers that were always there to help us. If you have a child that wants to dance and make a profession in the performing arts, I highly recommend starting at Plumb. read more

From the competitions to the ballets that I participated in, I learned so much about dance, how to be a professional in the professional world and I learned to grow as a person. Unfortunately, the leadership/ownership at Plumb is inconsistent and disorganized. We were there for four years and the last two years were incredibly draining emotionally for myself and my daughters. The ballet instruction was fabulous, but they have an extremely high turn-over rate for their other teachers. Which is no surprise. I don't believe the environment is one of positivity nor inclusion, and the management doesn't strive to make it a safe place. Too much gossip, politics, demeaning language from the teachers. Overall, not a great place to equip young children in a positive, encouraging way. read more

I'm not one to post on this or any site that often- just too busy, though I do appreciate the advice here when I need it. Anyway, I had to say something because I feel very strongly about this studio. My daughter has been dancing there for almost 10 years. She is now 12, and she has experienced phenomenal growth as a young lady, and as an artist and dancer. Lisa, the owner, takes a focused, individual interest in every child, and adjusts their schedule and activities- recitals, competitions, etc, accordingly. This is sometimes confusing for parents, as it was for us in the beginning, but as we became comfortable with the mechanics of the dance world, we now understand. Some of the objections I read here, I believe, are the result of understandably being unaware of the work involved with creating and training artists. A review of the national successes and notoriety that Plumb enjoys speaks volumes. The New York Yankees of the dance world, so to speak. Choosing to compete within a major, highly respecting organization, New York City Dance Alliance, the opportunities and challenges are numerous, but like any endeavor that goes beyond the beginning stages (dance, gymnastics, individual sports, etc), it requires time, money and dedication. No business is for everyone. Those that try to do that fail at being right for anyone. If you are serious about your child's dance education and career, this is a awesome place to be. read more

I can't even tell you how disappointed I am in Plumb. Both my daughters danced here last year (ages 6 and 4). Positives: The older girls in junior high and high school that helped out my daughters' classes seemed really nice and helpful. The first semester I felt like my daughters learned a lot. They were really enjoying their dance classes, and building strength and coordination. Negatives: The second semester was a complete train wreck. It is all about the year-end performance for Plumb. The year-end performance was over the top in my opinion for the age group of my daughters. They lump all of the kids into one huge show, from 3 year olds to seniors in high school. I think the girls learned very little the second semester, and maybe even regressed. Class after class it was all about the recital. My girls went from loving ballet to hating it. We also had entire classes where there was no dancing, instead, the instructor taught everyone to do hair (i.e. a "perfect" ballerina bun for the recital). Better get the hair bun right for ballet class too, or they will send your kid out of class until you fix it. My daughter's instructor was crass and often rude to the kids and parents. I think she thought all the girls were there to become professional dancers, rather than to just have fun, build strength and self-esteem, and learn to dance. At the year end performance, my 6 year old was upset during and in tears after her last performance. When my wife asked her about it, she told us she had been talking prior to going on stage and her dance instructor slapped her on the head. Rather than creating a scene and potentially ruining a day many girls had worked so hard for, we refrained from taking any action that day. The following Monday, we called Plumb and told them what happened. They said they would "look into it" once the dance instructor got back from vacation. We never heard back. That was a month ago. As for the cost, Plumb will bleed you dry. They force you to pay a "recital fee" of $120 per family, and give you 10 tickets to the show. My kids were in a total of three acts which probably lasted a total of maybe 10 minutes (estimated), and the costume for each act was around $80 each (so $240 total). Then, despite the fact there was only one real class in June, they charge you for the entire month worth of classes. When I asked the owner about this, he advised that each recital rehearsal (2 days) and the actual recital (1 day) counted as classes, which is why they charge the entire month. They will charge you for pictures if you want them, which we paid for and still have not received. Finally, they ask that you don't record your daughter's year-end performance. Instead, they "professionally record" the whole performance, then put it on a CD for you to buy it if you want it. The recital rehearsals (2 days) took up pretty much the entire afternoon, so if you work, be prepared to miss work, hire help with transportation for your kids, or miss the rehearsal(s). Also, the year-end show, while really good, was way too long if you have young kids. We won't be going back. read more

Plumb is an awesome dance studio! If you truly want your child to grow and excel with the incredible technique then Plumb is where you need to be. They offer a variety of dance classes and ongoing master classes with outside choreographers that are a wonderful learning experience.
