So, I really had no choice. After the lesson I realized that I had a new opportunity to do things with my wife that are fun, exercise, and kind of romantic. When you're looking your spouse eye to eye, that's great! So, we signed up for a full course and it's been great. We've learned how to 2-Step, Rumba, Fox Trot, Swing, and Cha Cha so far. I never thought I'd enjoy it so much. And how cool is it that if we go to some event now where there is dancing, we can look pretty good on the dance floor (not just do the old middle school slow dance back-n-forth). Erin Jane has been an incredible teacher. She has this bubbling personality that even makes my mistakes sound good. She is encouraging and yet willing to give us the eye when we slip up. My wife and I absolutely love her. Honestly, everyone there has been fantastic. I can't wait to learn new steps...We'll be tackling the Waltz pretty soon... My oldest then broke her arm, so I called and left messages to help coordinate classes better with her broken arm. Always went to voicemail. Left messages. Never got a callback. Regardless, we showed up to first day of class to see a class with at least 10-15 toddlers AND all of their parents running around and dancing in the studio. WITHOUT masks. They all left, my daughters soon after went in. Not a single person said hello, or introduced themselves to me or to them. I took a seat to watch my daughters dance in what very few chairs they had (and I was THE ONLY parent sitting as there was only one other child in the class besides my daughters). I was immediately approached by a man and told I had to leave because parents were not allowed to stay but that I could get a "zoom link." Again, not a single introduction as to whom he was, no inquiry about who I was, no other words other than "you need to leave." I told him I would. I grabbed my kids, and left, asked for my money back, and never looked back. The only person that cared to ask why we were leaving was the dance teacher. If you people are under the impression that 1) you're doing someone a favor and preventing Covid by kicking ONE parent (which is a vaccinated Covid nurse by the way) out and keeping MULTIPLE others IN the ACTUAL studio just prior to my kids being in there WITHOUT masks, you're absolute fools and 2) leaving two young females with some RANDOM dude (owner or not) who did NOT even introduce himself to me and treated me with nothing but RUDENESS and DISRESPECT and amongst people I've never met in my life....you are really something with some type of audacity. Don't even get me started on getting my refund for my hundreds of dollars. It only took like 4 weeks to get my money back, but I did. It's clear they don't need more business. Never again. I literally went that same day to a place we love and are appreciated at as customers, dancers, humans, and most importantly as parents. Didn't have a single issue. Not about masks, costs, seating arrangements, phone calls (every call is answered right off the bat), introductions, teachers, NOTHING.

Kristi knows her stuff, and gives the most detailed instructions of all the instructors. Huge focus on form! The workout consists of a warm up, stretching, thigh, seat work, abs, cool down, and more stretching. You will shake, you will work, you will tone up, you will be encouraged. You don't have to be a dancer to attend Smart Barre (hello? Have you seen my dance moves?). I am by no means a dancer (In public!) and never felt intimidated or embarrassed. Except the days I'm so tired I can't remember left from right... yes, it's happened. I have been to several studios in the area. If the word BARRE is in the name, I've been there sweating my A$$ off. Smart Barre has THE most pleasant staff. They show you the moves and actually do them with you, not just walk around the room talking. The studio itself is homey and well-loved: no, it's not a brand new giant warehouse with luxurious sprung floors. But those scratched wooden floors and smoothly-worn-down barres carry so much history and love and care. I took adult ballet classes here for a year in roughly 2022-2023. All of the instructors were amazing, and treated adult students exactly like they would have their teen students - we weren't babied or not taken seriously. Margo herself would sometimes come to sit and watch our classes; she is an absolutely lovely woman and still has all the grace and elegance of her younger years. Would highly recommend MDSB for adult ballet classes, which occur on Tues/Thurs evenings. I would supplement my classes here with classes at Texas Ballet Theater on the other days and felt like I got a very robust ballet education at both schools!
