I just had a free intro lesson that was supposed to assess my dancing abilities. I have taken lessons before so I was not a total green apple going in and I was able to follow the instructor while he was small talking me and leading me tango/salsa/cha cha steps to music mostly not even played to the particular dance. He managed to assess me one positive remark: I had rhythm. As for everything else, I need to improve and they placed me into the pre-Bronze category, which means absolute beginner. They tried to place me into a 4-week, 4-private-lesson package for over $600, which included 45-minute group lessons a few times a week and a lame social. I felt like I was made to be a dummy with two left feet without any sense of dancing so they can place me into the lowest starting category to make the most money on me. The instructors were said to be top-notch for this exuberant price but by looking at how they were providing some choreography for people with limited dancing skills to off-beat music did not exactly come across as expertise. I was very turned off by the car dealership sales pitch that pushed if I sign up on that day, I would get 10% off. WHOHOOOO.... Please, try another dance school where they don't dupe you into prepaying for 45-minute classes that teach two dances changing from session to session, which translates into pretty much no retention and probably repetitive basic step patterns. read more

I just decided that I had to do something to get some exercise so as a fan of dancing with the stars I thought, what a better way to do it. I have never had so much fun as I am with this fantastic studio and it is so much better than aerobics class or spin class because you get to actually interact with other students in "dance parties" and practice your moves. Management and staff are top notch, friendly and there is a wonderful balance of professionalism with just enough goofiness that you truly feel like you are with friends and family. Taking lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Ridgewood, NJ was the best decision I made for my wedding! My father and I took private dance lessons to learn a mash-up father/daughter wedding dance. The staff at AM were professionals, who were patient and amazing at their craft. My father and I always felt comfort and always had a great time. The dance was choreographed by Pamela, who was the sweetest and most talented person I have ever met. She helped us get better and supported us every step of the way. I can not begin to find words that will properly express my feelings towards this studio and those associated with it. Having the highest quality of instruction would not by itself necessarily guarantee a fun experience but in this case, it does. The instructors, in addition to their dancing and teaching abilities, are all amazing people that make every moment I spend in the studio more exciting than I ever could have expected. There are so many opportunities to attend classes and parties; I can't wait for them to open Sundays so I can dance every day of the week. read more

We found this place on theknot.com when we were searching for a company that could give us dance lessons for our wedding. Dave and I are both horrible dancers, but Pamela helped us to create an easy first dance that met our needs! We told her that we didn't want to look like we took dance lessons, but we didn't want to look like fools either. She knew exactly what we were looking for. These other reviews are so true! I can't say enough good things about this place. I tried some of the other dance studios in the area, but it just doesn't compare. The instructors and management here are patient and kind, super fun and make the learning process simple and painless! Don't think that taking cheap group classes is the way to go, trust me, it will take you longer and more money in the end to learn to dance. It took me a while to make the final decision to join after the preliminary start and now I'm hooked. The staff is wonderful all being encouraging regardless of your level. Nikko, my teacher, has continued to challenge me and with his encouragement (and patience) my growth has been strong and steady. Everyone is so friendly and upbeat, I'm sorry I didn't start sooner. After scouring around to different places, I finally found this studio. They have such a great atmosphere and talented staff that make the scary task of learning to dance so much less scary! There are plenty of different age groups, shapes and sizes and I did not feel out of place at all. The Arthur Murray name speaks for itself, but the people here make my day! I've been dancing at this studio since mid/late February. It's been a better experience than I thought it would be. It's a great dance studio in Bergen County with fantastic dance teachers.
