My wife found this brewery after having a local bite at a place nearby. We were immediately greeted by the bartender who was extremely helpful in explaining the beer or seltzer profiles. The brewery was "attached" to the pizza spot next door by a small opening which allows them to pass the food through. I def will be trying the pizza next time we are there. My wife, son and I stopped here for a late afternoon beer. My son and I ordered a Hazy IPA and it was terrific: great flavor and refreshing. We sat at a table near the street and it was perfect for people watching and chilling. Can't believe they've been here for 11 years and we have only just now made our way over. Beers were solid. Music outside was a bit loud. But they have outdoor and indoor seating to include some seating towards the back where it wasn't too crazy loud for us to have our kids with us. Service was really nice. Bathrooms were clean. I just love this place! They have a fantastic spot which allows indoor or outdoor seating and they are dog friendly, which is a huge plus with me! Being a brewery, guess what, they specialize in beer lol, so I love getting the beer flight so I can taste four of my choice. They have quite a selection and you get to pick whatever you want and I have to admit I'll just crush them all, they're good. Slight drawback, they don't serve food, so usually it's a stop before or after dining for us, or just when you're out looking for a vibrant cool place with great people to have a few good beers and bring your dog. More California brewery adventures and there are plenty of breweries from this state to try! I had the opportunity to get some beer from Artifex and it was ok. Once again going into territory where the beer itself isn't necessarily bad but it isn't very memorable which I feel like is a rut I fall in more than I'd care for. The Moog Trippin was the beer we had for Artifex which was an IPA. It was a double in style with a pineapple and dank flavor aspects to it. Enjoyable enough but just not quite experimental in flavor or ingredients to issue anymore stars. read more

Artifex is a nice hidden brewery in San Clemente that has some of the best beers I've come across and beer is always consistent with how it tastes. I like the outside area that has umbrellas to cover and friendly staff. They usually always have a food truck when I'm there and it's a mellow vibe which is something I always enjoy when I go to breweries. Trigger finger is my go to beer, but they have a wide variety to choose from. Dogs on leashes are welcome and they always have extra water bowls for your pooch to enjoy while you enjoy a beer! Came here on a late Saturday afternoon and it was packed. The parking lot was pretty full. I only got one beer and I hated that they didn't offer smaller sizes. I love exploring local beer culture while traveling. I've been to San Clemente before, but this was my first visit to Artifex. We walked up from our condo in the Pier Bowl, a brisk walk that prepped us nicely to sit and enjoy a beverage. The day I went, they had advertised a new barrel aged stout, my favorite style, but upon arriving I learned it was planned for release the following day. So, we perused the menu and chose the next darkest beer: the Bog Trotter, an Irish Red Ale. It was ok but not remarkable. The menu was dominated IPAs and a few other interesting styles. For my second, I went with Mo' Oats Mo' Problems, and oatmeal stout. Also unremarkable. Atmosphere was cool, sitting right on Del Mar in San Clemente. This town has a thriving on-foot lifestyle which I love. Nightlife is accessible by a short walk from most of the village. I wish their beers were a little more experimental and that the menu had a couple of BA Stouts. Other than that, positive experience. read more

The beer tender was nice, greeted us and gave us a little background on the beer. It was more of a satellite tasting room, but it had a great vibe. The beer was good, and I got the Unicorn Juice with Blood Orange. I am a huge fan of orange flavoring in beer, so this worked great for me. Not too overpowering, but definitely there. My sister got the Mo'Oats Mo' Problems Stout which was also tasty. Good, traditional type of stout, which is always a hit. We tried another brewery in the area prior to stopping by Artifex. We wished we just came here for a couple of beers as It definitely didn't disappoint! There were four of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our beers. We ordered a No name IPA, the Unicorn juice, the Artifexican and I believe a nitro stout. I personally tried the Unicorn juice which is a wheat with a hint of passion fruit. Sooo good! Crazy for hazy continues... to Artifex this time! All thanks to the hazies we tasted at Flying Pig in Oside. We found out Artifex is only over Pendleton and decided to stop by on the way back from OC. Artifex had some really good hazies and a double IPA that we liked. This place is a hidden Gem~ can't believe there was a chill/small/cozy brewery within a 5 min drive from my work. Love the variety of beers here, especially the IPAs. Super fresh off of tap with a crisp after taste. I like how this place serves multiple beer sizes in half pints, pints, and growlers. Got the Orange Haze IPA in a pint ($6), which did not disappoint! Was surprised to see it fairly crowded on a weekday night. Seating is pretty limited since it's a small brewery. No issue parking since it's connected to other business parking. On the day we came there was a family cooking up tasty street tacos and burritos. They have large TVs inside and it seemed like most people were there to watch the football game because it cleared out pretty quickly after. They have a small patio as well. I went with the flight for my first visit here. It's a standard set of 4: Unicorn Juice, Show Me Your Roots, Bog Trotter, and Trigger Finger. My favorite was the Show Me Your Roots, a Blonde Ale, but the flight is great because you get to try a variety of styles including the American Wheat, Irish Red, and West Coast IPA. For a pretty small place they have a large selection with great variety. This is a brewery that you don't want to miss. read more
