I do not recommend booking a birthday party here. The experience was definitely not your typical birthday party experience. I booked a party for my daughter and decided to go with the Ultimate Package (the highest package). There were 2 employees helping out with our party. The first 20 minutes after we arrived, they just sat at a table and had their own personal conversations. No welcome announcement to the group, no direction or rough layout of the party. I took the lead, set up the food, had the girls sing Happy Birthday, took pictures, served the girls, etc. I didn't even get a single photo of me and my daughter during this party. Finally after asking when the art was going to start, they said we could start with face painting and nail art. The face painting was not your typical face painting... see my photos below. Then they moved onto jewelry making, with clay. During this project, Employee A was occupied texting on her phone. She then proceeded to have personal conversations with Employee B in front of the girls (while all sitting at the same table). The table was so quiet for a large amount of time. There was no engagement with the girls, or even seeing if they needed help. It was so quiet, that I joined the table and started commenting on each of the girl's clay art, and conversing with them. Employee B did help the girls get more clay for their projects and said some words here and there. Finally Employee A put her phone down and paid attention to the girls for the next project. This project went better as there was more direction and actually an art lesson. In the middle of the drawing lesson, a couple families did a walk-in. I forgot to mention there were 2 other employees sitting around just drawing (not involved with our party). Instead of these 2 employees assisting with the walk-ins, Employee A ended up taking the kids that walked in and no longer assisted with our party. At one point, both Employee A & B were helping with the walk-ins, leaving the girls unattended. I found it odd that the other 2 girls who were available didn't assist with the walk-ins. At the end of the party, they passed out our "deluxe" party favors. It was junk. Literally junk. Like a single crayon and some random plastic pieces. I was embarrassed to have sent the girls home with these party favors. Again, see my photos below. Also, our package included giftcards for the girls, which I had to ask for because we didn't receive them. Employee B did not know about it and had to text someone to confirm that we get it. They did not seem familiar with what is included in our birthday party. The Ultimate Package is advertised as a 3 hour party with a 120 minute art lesson on canvas, but I kept getting inconsistent replies via email and in person *AT* the party- telling me I only get 2-2.5 hrs. Thankfully the girls didn't notice these things and still had fun because they were just excited to be together - which is why I gave this 2 stars instead of 1. I also wanted to mention that the other 2 kids who did a walk-in... the employee was doing the drawings for them. They had an iPad in front of them and she was drawing for them. Hardly an art lesson. Something to think about if you want to just drop your child off. The concept here is great, but they need employees who can engage with children more and not be on their phones. One employee kept saying to the other "What are you on? You must be on something!" in front of the girls. Please keep these comments and conversations away from young kids. ***Update*** Young Art did reach out and offered a class for my kids to re-do this experience. I asked my daughter, but unfortunately she was not interested :( I appreciate the call and offer. read more

What a great idea! I love that they do art lessons for kids and multiple different kinds of art as well. We came during the day (on a weekday) which is their slow time when kids are in school (perks of being a homeschooler!). I liked that it was not crowded and that we were able to get right in and have the teachers undivided attention (well divided between my two kids haha). The staff are so friendly and helpful, which definitely added to the great experience. My kids picked out some pictures off of the wall that they wanted to recreate with their teacher. My kids are young and the teacher did a great job with helping them do their drawing and then painting it. My youngest one needed more help, but the teacher did more guiding and let my kids truly make their own picture which both turned out great! They have other types of art you can do besides drawing and painting. They also sell some cool art supplies and accessories. We just did a drop in fee, but they sell packages if you want your child to come in more frequently. They also do parties as well. Check them out! read more

We were looking for something different to do. My granddaughter enjoyed her visit to Young Artists. We booked an hour session, she ended up staying 1 1/2 hrs. Worth every penny to she het painting and drawing. Manager Noah was so kind and considerate. We had trouble finding the location. They moved post Covid I would imagine. My daughter loved it here. You basically buy a punch card with hours and depending on the work you or your child chooses to do, they will let you know the amount of time needed. My daughter was able to do a picture in 60 minutes while I went shopping. After the lesson they get to choose a little prize. She loved it so much we stayed another hour and she was able to do another picture for Mother's Day. The more hours you buy up front on the punch card, the more you save. Right now the punch cards are 20% off for Mother's Day. They offer summer camps and various art supplies. We bought the borders for her picture and it will make a perfect gift. The employees were great and friendly. Depending on the time you go, it can end up being a small or even a private class. We went on a Friday around 5pm and there was only one other kid there who was leaving and she ended up having a private lesson. I was told Saturday's and Sunday's are more busy though. I like that you can just come in and no reservations are needed and they are very flexible too. ****Update**** Our last experiences here have been very frustrating. I've spent hundreds of dollars for the punch card, supplies, and summer camp. We were happy with the service before but not anymore. They are understaffed and need more help. Once you check in and they give you a receipt of the start time, they do not start at that start time. I stayed and watched to see what time my daughter would start drawing and it was 45 minutes after the fact. I also prefer that my daughter make her own pictures and only be guided on what to do. But it seems as if they have been drawing the pictures. We don't want to go home with other people's work. I was also disappointed about the summer camp. They kept running out of supplies like the glue for the macaroni house and also ran out of clay. So they started a project and didn't finish it because the glue never came. At a previous art camp (somewhere else) we went to, she came home with a lot of great projects and it was half the price of this camp. However at this camp, I feel like she did not bring that many finished nice projects home. My daughter told me that she would be watching on her iPad because there was no one helping her at her table. On our last visit, we came just to get some help to fix a portrait. I was thinking of using 30 minutes of our punch card and we would be in and out. There was no other customer there when we walked in and I was told by Robyn the manager that she's off the clock but she would still help us. She leaves to get pizza and shop and a guy helps us. But he also ends up taking phone calls and tending to other people that walk in. So we ended up just sitting there wasting our time. We ended up staying way longer than expected because no one is really there to help us because they are tending to other people, even though we were there before them. This is not a way to treat your repeat customers. *****Update***** The owner listened to my concerns and made it right. Our last visit went well. I saw a summer camp class there and it looks like they were appropriately staffed. The manager on staff was personable and pleasant. My daughter and her friends enjoyed their lesson and were all proud to bring their art work home. read more

Went to a family birthday party here. The store is fairly large and divided into about 3 sections...a decorated lobby area with merchandise and workspace, an admin space with drying facilities, and more workspace in the back large enough for parties. Parties are in the back. Participants select an example to recreate from the samples in the store or examples they bring in or pull up on their noble devices. Instructors walk around and develop a game plan to execute each artist's example. For parties and groups, each artist is allowed to pick their own example...the entire group does not have to recreate the same exact thing. That's certainly unique. The instructors circle around each artist like doctors rounding the hospital, but these instructors continue to round and help grab different media for the artists to work with while assisting the artists execute their vision. The instructors were so thoughtful and informative. I was so impressed with the way they interacted with each artist. Once each piece was done, it went over to the drying section with a fan. They then had snacks (provided by the parents), before taking group photos before departing with their masterpieces. The staff here is great. Super welcoming and helpful. Everyone of all ages had a great time at the party here. The kids had a great time. read more

Updated Review: After reading my review, the manager reached out to apologize for my experience and invited us back. I appreciate management caring enough to do this. My review will be updated accordingly after we give this place another try. My original analysis follows: *** I took my kids (age 4 and 5) for art lessons while I went to get an eye exam. Following their advice, I paid for 30 minutes for my 4-year old and 45 for my five year old. 50 bucks. Because the place completely lacked security, I decided to forgo the eye exam and watch from outside. Here was my takeaway: 1) what a great place for someone to kidnap my child. 2) there was no actual art lessons that took place 3) much of the time my kids were just coloring in the pencil drawing the "teachers" did. 4) a lot of my kids art project was done by an instructor while he waited to get his paint brush back 5) the 45 minute project I paid for ended in 30 minutes. I gave 2 stars instead of one because my kids did have a lot of fun. read more

I've never written a Yelp review, but felt compelled after my experience here. My daughter had her 5th birthday party here this past Saturday and invited 7 of her friends. While the concept seems great, it was a terrible experience. We arrived early, and one of the instructors explained to me that it would start with face painting, and then the children could pick one of the pictures from the wall, and the instructors would teach them how to do it. She said that the parents could leave the children there and return at the end, or hang out and watch. When the children all arrived and it was time for the party to begin, nothing happened... as in none of the employees initiated anything. I waited, and still nothing. No "Welcome to (child's) birthday! Today we are going to..." Nothing. I then began explaining to the children they would have face painting, and showed them the pictures to choose from. Eventually an employee sat at the table, and instead of face painting, she drew a small picture with chalk pencils on each of their hands. The employee, and the others, barely spoke to the children at all. The children wandered around wondering what was next, but no employees initiated anything. Again I rallied the troops and explained to a few children to choose a picture to paint. Then we had to find an employee ourselves and tell them what each child wanted to paint. The employees seemed uninterested and eventually went and took a photo of the painting with their cell phone and sat at the table with the children. At that time, there were 3-4 adults and 6 children. There was no art lesson. They looked at the pictures they had taken on their phones, and drew it on the papers for the children to trace. Sometimes they would draw an example for a child to copy on the table, but they mostly ended up drawing it for the children. Then they would stand there and play on their cell phones and leave the children waiting for the next instructions. I felt bad for the children just sitting there bored, so I began initiating and asking the employees what each child was to do next. They ignored me. One even looked up from her cell phone at me, then made a personal phone call and walked to the front of the store. I was shocked, as were all of the parents there! When they did help, they told the children what colors to use, then the employee would touch it up, or do it themselves. For most of the time, the children sat waiting for instructions. My daughter sat for a good 10 minutes, until, after asking employees at least twice what she was to do next and being ignored, I finally handed her some red paint and told her to paint the background. Then came time for pizza and cake. Again, the employees did nothing. My husband then asked to borrow something to wipe the table with. She said, "huh?" then pulled on another employee's shirt, who wiped it down and left the cleaner and dirty rag sitting on the table, then walked away. The employees then went to the front of the store and ATE THEIR LUNCH, while we served the children pizza and cleaned up after ourselves. Then we had cake and led the children in singing happy birthday. The employees continued to sit at the front desk looking half bored, half annoyed and there was nothing structured about it. At one point, a male employee came and sat at one of the tables in our reserved area and started to paint his own picture. The kids became so bored that they started to run circles around one of the tables, with 20 minutes left of the party, waiting for it to be over. An employee came over and handed me a coupon, and explained that my entire package would be 20% off because I had over a certain number of guests. Finally an employee (the owner or manager I believe) asked if the kids could stand with their pictures for a photo, the first time anything was actually initiated by any of them. She then brought my husband and I with our daughter to the front, pointed out two frames, and asked which one she would like for her painting. When we paid the bill, she added the frame for $12.99. I confronted her about it, in that she presented it to us to believe that it was included. She explained that it was 20% off though, like it was some special deal. My friend, whose child was also at the party and witnessed the entire thing, then felt the need to say something. She explained that she herself is a business owner, and that it is not good practice to mislead their customer into purchasing something, nor an appropriate way to treat their customers. She said nothing and just stared at us, so we left. In conclusion, we paid $250 to rent a space for 2 hours. Waste of money. read more

We did my daughters party there over the weekend, 15 10 year old girls. They did a great job. It was very smooth. I was very happy with it probably the least stressful party we have ever done. They do everything and the girls had a blast. One cool thing was the kids got to chose their own picture. I had one girl come almost an hour late and they were able to accommodate. I also picked up some cool art supplies they have one box of pens for painting nails and other they sell for writing on glass. I would definitely recommend. I took my daughter and we bought the 15 min session. We started with one instructor who guided us one at a time then as more customers came in she handed us over to another instructor who was already working with two customers at the same table. One of the other customers asked her if she could finish the painting and she politely told her she was out of time and needed her mom to pay more to finish. Then, my daughter and I asked her to help us finish and she said the same thing that we would need to buy more time. I told her that I didn't think it was appropriate to ask me to spend more money because they had mismanaged their time with customers. The concept is great but beware that you may spend more than agreed just to finish a painting on a piece of paper, not even a canvas. read more

Today was our 2nd time here and it wasn't a great experience. our first time was great we had a girl "teacher" and she was super helpful and great with my daughter, her picture turned out awesome and she had time left over so she was able to do free draw. This time we had a boy "teacher" and he didn't know how to explain any of the drawing, he did half of the painting for my daughter instead of her doing it herself, and then instead of the actual background he just had her do half brown and half blue. We also paid for an hour, she started her drawing at 5:07 and they said we only had until 6, she "finished" at 5:42 and they wouldn't allow her to do free draw or add more details to her current picture they just handed her some candy and rushed us out. Best Birthday Party Ever! I had my daughter's 6th birthday at Young Art in the Mission Viejo Mall. We had gone there over the Summer and my daughter brought home so many cool pieces of art. The owner called to confirm the party twice, very professional. When we got there to set up there were already a ton of decorations up, made my life so much easier. The staff are incredible artists and amazing with the kids. I was blown away by how they teach such young kids how to produce beautiful artwork. It was by far the quietest party because the girls were so focused on their paintings. Each girl got face painting, nail polish, an individually chosen art piece, and a goodie bag. I highly recommend for parties, but also just for a 30min-1hour break during the Summer! read more
