It looked crowded when we were driving in to the complex. Luckily the parking lot was larger closer to the building that we needed to go to. It was such an awesome surprise walking in. Art makes me happy. I kept running around and taking pictures with everything. I even have a few bathroom selfies. I never like taking photos of just me in it but I couldn't help it. Bugs bunny, pepe le pew, winnie the pooh, and wizard of oz just to name a few of the amazing art work. It's like going back in time and seeing all your favorite cartoons. Great art to check out. "Storytime", an hour of song, story, and coordinated art projects for pre-schoolers and their mothers and fathers. Sponsored by the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity and Soco and the OC Mix. It was an hours event on Monday from 1-2pm (and is held every 2 weeks). The first half hour is a sing session with the sensational Christa Mae (www.christamae.com) who sings and plays popular nursery rhymes on her guitar. She's very entertaining and engaging. 1 book is then read followed by a craft. The craft supplies are provided by the center. Today, I was on my way back from Irvine and remembered that I wanted to come here and made it here before they closed at 2pm. They have very limited hours so check their schedule. Admission is $8 and they have a ample parking here too. This place is just gorgeous. This is one of the homes of Ole Hanson, who is the founder of San Clemente. He also had residence in LA. He built San Clemente to resemble a Spanish village and that explains why I love San Clemente so much. I came here a few months ago and just loved walking around San Clemente and it reminded me of the Mediterranean. Two hours is plenty of time to explore this house with devastatingly beautiful views of the ocean. The breeze coming into the Museum part of the house is just lovely and made me want to linger just that much longer. You see, I love the ocean and seeing the water is so calming and relaxing. There are beautiful trees, plants, flowers here and I found myself wanting to just have a picnic here. Or lay in the grass and read a book. There is a gift shop here and beverages and light snacks can also be purchased there. I also grabbed a calendar to see what events they have here and I will def be back one evening to see the sunset here. Dont miss this place in San Clemente, it is such a treat to visit!

Regardless, the free entry automatically made the visit a great value. This is a small museum (and even smaller now due to unfortunate damage caused by landslides in recent years) with a gorgeous interior, a vibrant garden, and regal ocean views. The interior includes many collected works of fine art that betray quite good taste, something to be attributed to the provenance of the home. I liked that because it was during the winter holiday season, the house was decorated accordingly; I wonder what the house looks like during other times of year! I am not sure how involved the museum docents are meant to be, but they appeared happy to show us around and give further explanation on some details of the house. Important note: public restrooms are available, and also there are even functional in-situ bathrooms. Using one made me feel like I was a proper guest to the home. This will probably be a good time for the whole family, if art and culture is something yours values. I'm bringing my mother on my next visit, hopefully on another free day.

She was incredibly flexible with scheduling and working with me on the event planning. The location was easy to get to in Newport and the studio itself had the perfect amount of space for my group of 7 people. Be aware that you will have to pay for parking, but it's relatively inexpensive and done via app. During the event itself, Jeniece was patient and made jokes which we were very grateful for given that many of us hadn't painted or attempted visual art since high school. She provided the final product options and we voted on which we'd all complete. She was very attentive in the lesson -- she both demonstrated and walked around the class to see how we were progressing. She was incredibly positive with her feedback. I would recommend Jeniece and Art + Soul to anyone doing a work team event. Her flexibility and positivity were exactly what we needed!
