I visited on a day when they were having a pop-up event. They were having the Christmas elf pop-up in their back room. The place is bigger than you think. They have an outside patio and then their main bar area. They also have their back room. It was fun. They had Christmas specialty drinks on top of the regular cocktail menu. The specialty drinks were cute, but too sweet for me. I ended up getting an old-fashioned for my second drink as my friends told me that they were really good here. I really liked my old-fashioned. The bartenders were all super nice. Thebar was decorated very nicely for Christmas. I noticed that there was a variety of ages in the patrons. Went here for a night out during the Christmas Season. We had no issue finding parking. The place was really well decorated for Christmas. I ordered a Dragon's Breath while my fiance ordered a Lemon Drop Martini. Both drinks were really delicious. The special thing about this bar is that they make their own liquor. Something to consider is that this place does not have any food options. The bartender let us know of a food truck on the street and let us know that we could eat on the porch with food from the truck. The lack of food was not an issue for us, but it is worth mentioning. This place has many events throughout the year. During the Christmas Season, the has showings of Inebriated Dickens. The also had an Alice in Wonderland cocktail experience. My fiance and I once took part in a cocktail experience at the bar where they taught us how to make three different cocktails. They also have anime nights with trivia, themed cocktails, and cosplay. Thought the whiskey was a little high in price, so next time I'll stick with a craft cocktail. I'm not a liquor aficionado by any means, but every time drink "A" or drink "B" was ordered, it was an entirely different taste and even a different color (it just depends on who you order it from). At one point, I ordered the Hillbilly Moonshine, and the bartender asked me where I saw that one. I had to show the menu and the ingredients to him. What??? My girlfriend and I both lived in Las Vegas and have a special connection to a hotel called The Artisan. She also loves chandeliers, so when I saw there was a place called Artisan Distillery with chandeliers, I knew we would have to go on our vacation to San Antonio. Because we were there midweek and it was Covid times, we were the only ones there except for the owner Nick. That was fine with me as I wasn't trying to pick up this stupid disease. Nick was very welcoming to us and our dog, and we promptly ordered happy hour drinks for herself and a dog cocktail. Yes, they have dog cocktails! Nick was very hands-on in explaining his process and we end up getting two cocktails each because the first round were so good. Actually, my girlfriend wanted to have a third! But we hadn't even eaten dinner so we pay our bill after two rounds. Nick said they're on the move soon so I imagine the space will be even better after that. My partner and I visited this bar initially to do a craft cocktail class offered there but stayed after for a few drinks. The class was at 4 pm and parking was easy at that time. Their free parking lot fits about 35 cars, other than that there is free street parking and $2 parking under the nearby bridge. The class was very organized, informational and fun. The owner himself conducted the class and taught us about how certain liquors are made, how to use different bar utensils and walked us through making three delicious craft cocktails with his house-made Vodka, Whiskey and Gin respectively. All of their alcohols were incredibly smooth and available to purchase at the bar. After a great class I had a refreshing strawberry Vodka lemonade and my partner had a whiskey cocktail with a cinnamon stick that he enjoyed. They use all fresh Ingredients in their drinks which really comes across in the flavor. The location is cozy, has indoor and outdoor seating, features bands, comedians, Anime nights and vendor nights as well. Artisan is one of those places I never would have visited on my own. I rarely drink and it seems a little sketchy from the outside. But I met up with a group here for a holiday party and it ended up being pretty cool. It's a distillery and bar, and they only pour what they make (vodka and moonshine). Tours are available, reservations recommended, and Nick was very friendly and informative. Cocktail list is extensive and seasonal. I tried the Backwoods Blackberry (marinated fruit, "Chupacabra Juice" moonshine, club soda, house infusion) and the Pumpkin Spice Martini (made with cold brew and their Texas Pride vodka), preferring the former over the latter. Such a fun spot added to the Broadway/Downtown area! It might not look like it on the outside but you'll be whisked into a place that takes pride on their drinks as they are not only a bar but a full distillery. The happy hour prices can't be beat and their drinks are so so good. You really have to take advantage of the back room for a fun mixer or event for friends/family. I came here for an event (Drink and Click) and it was during Happy Hour. The place was full of photographers, models and equipment so of course no tours were given. However, it was nice to sit back and enjoy the scenery, the photographers at work, bartenders at work and models at work. I found it kind of weird there were kids there but whatever. There is also a patio area where you can sit outside and it was a beautiful night. I had a lemon drop martini and because it was happy hour it was only $5.00. Alright, I will openly admit that this review is WAY overdue! (Sorry Nick!). I live not too far from this local gem and I had no idea that it even existed. Thanks to my friend (and also Yelper buddy- Krysta) for introducing me to this awesome martini bar and distillery. As soon as I walked through the door, I knew that I would absolutely love this place. It's beautiful and not what you would expect. I walked up to the bar and met Nick, who is the owner and the mastermind behind these beautiful tasty cocktails and also the smooth vodka. I've been the Artisans MANY, MANY times and I've tried a lot of the various items on the menu. These all range from Spicy Cucumber Martinis, Oreo Martini, Pickle Martini, Orange Raspberry, and the list goes on and on and on. They're all delicious! Probably the most memorable martinis for me are the coffee martini and also the Purple Fairy (see pic). Not only are they smooth, tasty, BUT the presentations are beautiful. Everything is made fresh to order and JUST good! Now moving on to the vodka/distillery side of the house...geez..I have never had vodka that is this smooth ever before. It's delish in mixed drinks but also smooth enough for shots and on the rocks! Trust me....totally worth it. **You can buy bottles of the vodka on site but make sure you purchase before 9 PM!** Nick will even sign the bottles for you. However, you can also get these bottles at Total Wine. :) I strongly recommend that everyone visits this gem. Super cool concept of an artisan distillery! We took the your and learned a few great things about distilling vodka. The tour included tasters and we had the opportunity to bottle and label our own vodka bottle we purchased which was super neat! We tried 3 of the artisan vodka drinks and loved them! The interior design of the bar is super contemporary and we loved the look. Nick the owner and master distiller did a great job with the place. He is definitely a one man show, although a little extra help would've been good when there are large groups at the venue. A couple cons: The group prior to our group tour was running behind so they were still around and very loud during our tour which made it difficult for Nick to talk over them and also for some of us to hear. The AC unit was out so it was pretty stuffy inside both the distilling area and the tasting room. Regardless we will be back! read more

We got to do a tour with Nick. Very cool to see the entrepreneurial spirit at work. Learned some new things about vodka and got to taste both of his vodkas. Love coming here and trying the variety of martinis....we have tried the mojito, the ginger, lime, lemon and cucumber (without the spice). All have been really good. My favorite is the lemon drop! This was the first time we had been here...driven by lots of times just never took the time to stop. Boy are we sorry...we won't make that mistake again. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and fabulous drinks. They had a variety of martinis on their happy hour for $5....yummy. My wife said their lemon drop was to die for. She can't wait to try their cucumber martini next. She's pretty picky when it comes to my martinis as most people make them terribly.....so she was ecstatic to experience theirs and find that they were fantastic. I had a mojito martini....using vodka instead of rum and it was superb as well. The food truck had just left before we got there so we never got to try that...though they do have a couple of local food establishments close by that serve food that will deliver...just ask them for a menu at the bar. read more

I just realized I failed to leave a review when we did a tour back in July 2017 for my birthday weekend. The tour with Nick was really fun, learned a lot about vodka. It's a small distillery but the atmosphere is good for cocktails and they have a section to have a private party with a crystal chandelier. They make unique cocktails made with their vodka made in-house a Texas vodka and a Spike one made with a cactus. The vodka's are smooth! You can buy bottles directly there and what's cool is that you can fill your bottle! So happy we toured Artisan and will come back when we visit back. read more

Local distilling! This place makes some wicked booze! They have two different kinds of vodka, one of which is made from prickly pear cactus. The cactus gives it a different taste that's fuller and more pronounced than the straight grain vodka. It's unlike any vodka I'd ever tasted. They sell the bottles on site for a very reasonable price. The owner is full of insights on distilling and gives a little lecture and tour of the distilling area and fills in the crowd with all kinds of useful facts. When you go to the back area for a tour, next to the restrooms, you get to check out the column reflux stills that they have here. According to my findings, column reflux stills are good for making a highly refined booze that in essence distills the liquor multiple times at once. They have a menu of drinks- I got the old fashioned, which was made with in house bourbon. I also tried the 'seasonal' old fashioned, which had raspberries in it, which was an interesting twist on a classic. Certain drinks are deeply discounted during happy hour, which made for some great deals. The best deal here was the cherry bomb and gummy bear shots- $1 - a bargain! Plus, if you take the tour, you're treated to a sample or two of what they're distilling back there. I thought that the Chupacabra moonshine was a bit on the hairy side- yeow! It's strong. There's plenty of seating, inside and out, and they have a back room with unique local art and a fancy bougie chandelier which would be cool for a meeting or party. The bar itself has a crooked tilt to it, which caused some of the drinks to spill a little, so I learned quickly to have the bartender just hand the drink to me! They don't serve any food here, but they welcome deliveries or bringing something in. read more

Last review I wrote, we were visiting San Antonio.. now that we live in San Antonio, my boyfriend and I came back and we're so glad the drinks taste the same, maybe even better! Everything is fresh and as much as I hate strong drinks, these martinis are dangerous because they're so smooth.. be careful because they'll catch up to you! They have a new venue with lots of seating and a stage, we enjoyed the drag show that was put on that Friday night. Nick was there working the bar and he's just a great host as ever. We had a great time on the "tour" which is really just a chance to sit down with the owner and distiller and talk about how vodka and other spirits are made. It was entertaining and informative. At the end you get to sample some product and see how it is made. Finally you can bottle and label your own bottle to take home for $12 which the master distiller will autograph for you. Then you can hang out at the bar and drink. They seem to have a local following at have delicious mixed drinks made with fresh fruit. A very fun thing to do on an afternoon in San Antonio. read more

Great little place on Broadway! We stopped in after seeing a show at the Majestic and the service was excellent! The place had a cool eclectic look (the restrooms are interesting). Of course what really matters is that the drinks are so good! They only serve vodka that's distilled on premise, but that's mostly what my friends and I drink. Also, their Spike vodka (made from cactus) has a tequila feel to it, so that makes the drink menu seem a little broader. We tried a few different things over a couple hours, all were excellent with larger than usual portions. The favorite was the Blackberry Fizz, great taste and color. We'll definitely be back. The tasting was fun and we especially enjoyed the regular vodka and the prickly pear cactus vodka. After the tour, we filled some bottles of vodka and Nick signed them for us.
