This brewery has been my list for a while but somehow we'd never been. Our friend spoke highly of it so we had to go. The place was once a restaurant that we had gone to in the past. It has a large outdoor area with picnic tables, fans and water misters. There was one family that was letting their kids run like crazy so we sat inside. It's a bit warm- lots of windows with odd setup. It is counter service- so you order and they deliver. They have beer, a few wine and cider. We were on the fence overall but then my husband tasted his beer- 5/5. And the food came out: pizza 5/5 (probably the best pizza I've had in SA) and smoked turkey sandwich (whoa! Smokey but not over smoked where you are burping the taste hours later) with fries 5/5 (crisp, seasoned perfectly). We will definitely be back and so should you. You should try it now. read more

I have given alot of thought on how I want to rate this establishment, and ultimately settled on 4 stars, which may be a little unfair. I think the reason I didnt "love" the pizza is because its so different with the sourdough base and not what i am used to. I would like to return and try a sandwich or something else on the menu. Service was fast and friendly, and the place was clean and welcoming. My main reason for trying out wild barley was because they have sour beers, it wasnt the best sour beer i have ever had, but i have noticed in Texas the sour beers have a strange taste to them that i cant quite put my finger on. Finally got in to try Wild Barley after seeing in on a Guy Fieri 'Diners and Dives' show. Very much worth the visit. Service was prompt, and the ambiance is a funky cross between a bakery and a diner. Parking is easy in their private lot. I first tried their 'Texas Style' pastrami Reuben sandwich. This is smoked pastrami brisket, served with on their house-made marbled rye and topped with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and garlic aioli. Quite a bit different than a NYC-style sandwich. The aioli instead of dressing, thicker slices, etc etc. But wow, did it taste good. It's as if a pastrami Reuben and a sliced smoked brisket sandwich had a love child who inherited the best from each parent. I also tried their salmon gravlax on an 'everything' bagel. This bagel was baked in-house, topped with the cured salmon, cream cheese, tomato, red onion, capers, and a sprig of dill. Rustic, beautiful, and delicious. Definite recommend! Wild Barley Kitchen & Brewery was such a nice surprise after our zoo day! I really enjoyed their Hazy IPA, Safety Meeting -- slightly citrusy and sweet, just the way I like it. I ordered the Beet Salad and a Hawaiian-themed pizza, while my husband had the Pesto pizza. The Beet Salad was delicious -- maybe a touch heavy on the blue cheese for me, but that's just because I'm a little sensitive to blues, Gorgonzola, and goat cheese. For the average salad lover, it was probably perfect. The beets, dressing, and greens were all fresh and flavorful. The pizza, though... perfection! I completely forgot to even share a bite with my husband. Every item that came out of the kitchen looked amazing, and I absolutely hope to return soon. read more

Had dinner here last night to celebrate a friend's new chapter. We brought a cake and the staff was so generous to put the cake in the fridge until we needed it. Wonderful service even before we ordered! We ordered 2 pizzas and it was amazing! Love the thin crust, the charred edges from the stone brick oven, and the freshness of the ingredients. Absolutely delicious! I love the sour dough pizzas. By far, most tasty pizza. Tomato sauce was perfectly seasoned and balanced the toppings so perfectly. Service was the best service I've had at any place. All the staff was friendly and went above our expectations. They always greeted everyone with a smile and warmth. You genuinely felt welcomed here and like a family. I loved it! Great atmosphere. Overall, I'm impressed and a huge fan. I highly recommend for everyone! Dipped into Wild Barley Kitchen & Brewery after seeing a piece on them on Diners, Drive-in's, and Dives and WOW were we happy we did! First the beer that we had were crisp, light and delicious (both were house pilsners). They use an "open seating, order at the bar" service model. So we grabbed a seat to peruse the menu. We grabbed a seat inside because even though it is October, it is still Texas and it was too hot to sit outside- although they did have quite a bit of outside, covered seating options. The menu was not overwhelming, yet still had many unique, eclectic offerings. We opted first to grab a pizza- all of the pies on the menu sounded delicious, but we opted for the "Jimmy Pesto". This simple, thin crust pie packed a wallop of flavor!!! Topped with Italian sausage (from local spot- Smoke Shack), mushrooms, cheese and an artistic swirl of beautifully green and fresh-made pesto that hit all the right notes and paired very well with the beer. We decided to hang out a little while and drink another couple of beers, so we packed up the remaining half of the pizza to take home to our college age daughters. After ordering another round, I got into a conversation with a regular. After professing how delicious the pizza was, he suggested that next time we try the Texas Rueben as it was why he goes there weekly. My wife and I looked at it and decided- why not and ordered one to try (knowing we'd take the rest home to those hungry kids of ours). The sandwich was built on slices of rye bread, stacked high with "brisket pastrami", sauerkraut, perfectly melted Swiss cheese and a house sauce that resembled "Thousand Island". Homeboy was right!!! This sando was phenomenal!!!! That brisket pastrami was absolutely delectable and the flavor profile was so rich and deep that each bite felt like an experience unto itself. Bottom line: we WILL be back...and you should get yourself over to Wild Barely Kitchen and Brewery for your own expedition through their unique offerings! Highly recommend!!! read more

Wild Barley Kitchen & Brewery was one of the highlights of our trip to San Antonio, and we would absolutely go back. The atmosphere alone is worth mentioning. The space has a fantastic vibe both inside and out. When we visited, there was a great mix of families, couples, and groups of friends, and the whole place felt welcoming, lively, and relaxed without being overwhelming. The drinks were excellent. I had the Texas Keeper No. 1 cider, which was delicious. My husband tried both the Landa Park Pils and the Honey House honey blonde ale and enjoyed both. The real star of the evening, though, was the pizza. We ordered the Seta y Jamón, and it was absolutely incredible. The combination of garlic-infused olive oil, garlic confit, caramelized onions, roasted mushrooms, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, parmesan, basil, and fermented honey created the perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors. Every bite was amazing. All of their pizzas are made with sourdough crust and cooked in a brick oven, and you can definitely tell. The crust had great flavor and texture and tied the whole pizza together beautifully. From the drinks to the food to the atmosphere, everything about our experience was excellent. This place was phenomenal. How phenomenal? We came back 2 days in a row and both experiences were outstanding. I can't name another place that wowed me in both food and beer. We were visiting from out of town and admittedly was trying to go somewhere else and I'm glad we weren't able to. This place was a pleasant surprise. Our first visit was on a Saturday and an event was happening so they were very busy. However the service was friendly, helpful, and quick. They do seem to struggle to find numbers for the food but everyone is so friendly it didn't bother us. We got the Texas Ruben - and just wow! Tender. Juicy. Flavorful. Has all the components of a traditional Ruben with just enough twist. Out of this world. The main complaint for us was the $11 Caesar salad. While it was good it was a little over priced and didn't pack the punch I like. Cut the price down a little I'd get it again, otherwise not worth it. However you can still see the quality and care they put into it. So what did we do? Come back for breakfast on our way out of town and tried their breakfast sandwich with the pastrami. Sunday when we came back they were a lot slower but that didn't change anything but where we got to sit. We tried their Black IPA (which is newer flavor for us) and 2 of their other IPAs. Just here for the beer. Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Pretty bustling at this point. They have big screen TVs with the game on and lots of seating. Parking can be challenging. Beers are reasonably priced. $4.5 for 10 oz and $7.5 for 20 oz. Sandwiches, smashed burgers and salads are available. They also serve breakfast. They looked good but we ate before coming here. Our friends ordered but took a long time for food to come out so get your order in early. read more

My son wanted to try it after seeing on Triple D. We tried pizza, fries and the Texas Rueben. All of it was delicious! The fries were seasoned with a mixture of spices and served with a Russian type dressing. They were some is the best fries I've had in a while. The owner was there taking orders and doing whatever was needed to keep things moving. At one point he was out directing the parking of cars! They had a good variety of beers to choose from as well. Saw this place on DDD. Tried the Rueben sandwich sans sauerkraut cause we are not huge fans and have some sensitivities. It was wonderfully delicious. Honestly it feels like any description wouldn't do it justice. The best I got is its savory, juicy, just the right amount of sauce to beef to cheese ratio! The pastrami was soft and crisply toasted so it had just the right amount of bite into me crunch and at the same time melted straight into the whole sandwich bite experience! We also tried the sourdough pancakes, which came with fresh fruit on top. They were very well done. A little bit of a different take on pancakes, which we very much appreciated! They were crispy in the outside, fluffy AND soft and delicious inside! This place has beer, ciders, and wine. So give it a try. We'll definitely be back! read more

We love Wild Barley! My friends and I go pretty much every Sunday for beers & pizza. We love to sit outside on their high-top tables and hang out or play games. There is always a beer you will find and like. We like the IPAs and the Amber was pretty good, too. I always order their Margherita pizza and my husband likes a meat lovers one (don't know the name). We have also gotten cheesy bread (basically just a cheese pizza with a drizzle of honey) and fries - all amazing! My only hiccup is this place is kind of expensive for pizza and beer... (2 pizzas and 4 beers wind up to be $100...)! Nonetheless, I am giving it 5 stars and will of course be back. read more

We know that the quality of the pizza is great and I also love supporting a local business. They continue to expand throughout the years, which is great because this is a great local spot. It has an outside area whenever there are bands playing. This is great for families so their little ones can enjoy playing outside. Also, the inside has continued to grow with new tables . It's nice to come here as well. If you ever want to watch a football game with some beer and pizza. We've been there a couple of times when they have game night, which is really fun. At times when they are very busy, it does take a bit for them to serve the food, but it's understandable. This is fresh made pizza. We continue to come here, time and time again. read more

After hearing so many great things about this place, we had to try it! Really cool place with indoor seating and a nice patio area, and they even have lots of board games available for your enjoyment- clearly an invitation to stay a while and enjoy yourself. Service was efficient- order near the bar and the food is brought to your table. It wasn't super busy but our food was slow to arrive. We weren't in a hurry, so it wasn't a big inconvenience. DH had the jumbo smash burger and loved it. He declared it one of the best burgers he's had. I tried it and would have to agree that it's a delicious burger! The fries with his meal were really good, too. I love me a good Reuben and, after reading all the hype, I had to get it. It comes with chips but I upgraded to fries for an upcharge. Honestly, it wasn't for me. It's a good sandwich, but the traditional flavor you get with a Reuben is completely lost. It's really a smoked brisket sandwich with Sputnik sauce (delish, as was the kraut). I knew it wasn't going to be a traditional sandwich, but I didn't expect it to be that far off either. The fries with my meal were not as good as DH's fries. Mine were not even close to warm. If I'm paying extra for them, please deliver them hotter than room temperature. If someone had asked us how everything was, I would have mentioned it. I'm not a huge craft beer drinker but I loved the Landa Park Pils. Perfect temperature and it went down like nectar. DH is already craving the burger again. The pizzas looked great, so I'll probably get one next time. No fries needed. read more

We came here specifically for the sourdough pizza we saw on DDD....only to be highly disappointed because they only serve pizza after 3pm...I wish that was advertised somewhere. We contemplating leaving but we ended up staying and getting the jumbo burger and the cubano. The burger was excellent and had good flavor. The cubano was ok, a little greasy but the house made pickles were VERY good. The fries were nice and crispy and had excellent seasoning. We will be back for the pizza though! read more
