Unfortunately, the second time was not a charm. We had a pretty rocky moving experience, despite having minimal furniture that was fully declared for the estimate. A significant majority were boxes. The number of movers should have been decided by the company, and clearly not us. The moving crew arrived one hour late, deducting one hour from the freight elevator reserve time in the apartment complex. This meant that the movers had to wait for the regular elevator in a 20-floor building. While we were eventually refunded the amount for this delay, it was incredibly stressful to have movers protest, call their boss to ask for more movers, and practically not do any moving for at least 25 minutes. It is less so how much we were charged in the end, but more how slow the managers were to resolve our issues, to the point of our repeated calls being ignored until we called from a different number. read more

I quote: "Our procedures for your move were at or above industry standard in every way". Pictures would show how our possessions were treated & damaged as a result - art stacked in a box w/a carpet thrown on top, nothing between pieces or just thin cardboard; tall pieces leaned against truck wall w/o protection, now damaged. Furniture partially wrapped, now damaged. We were clear w/the salesperson that our art was very sentimental & important to us. She assured us that pack/wrap of art is included, saying "we do all the big Potomac houses". She didn't recommend additional insurance. "Do you want your estimate to include packing of your items? (It is standard/included that we will wrap any furniture, tvs, artwork that need to be wrapped)". The owner says we didn't tell them about art beforehand. It was also on the inventory sheet. They asked for the value ($7600) & receipts for the claim. Now he says we are "bullying" for sending that information & are negligent for not adding additional insurance. Buy all the insurance, not for accidents, but to protect from "industry standard" packing. --- We always strive to provide a great moving experience; however, occasionally we fall short. We are sincerely sorry that we didn't meet your expectations and for the damage to your items. That said, to state that we were negligent and careless is absurd. Our procedures for your move were at or above industry standard in every way. Unfortunately, there is always a risk for items to get damaged during a move, whether you move them yourself or hire a moving company. Just because you may have decided to do something differently if you were moving the items yourself or if you were managing our crew, does not mean that our procedures are negligent. Frankly, I would consider your decision to have us move what you are now calling "priceless" items without ever telling us about them beforehand, and choosing to proceed with the bare minimum liability coverage for the move, as negligence on your part. As stated, our legal liability for the damage in your claim is $150. We care about our customers and always try to make things right, which is why we rarely, if ever, offer the bare minimum liability amount even when the customer chose not to obtain higher coverage. However, your expectation that we pay you $7,600 for this damage is beyond ridiculous. Even if you purchased full valuation coverage (which you did not), you would not be entitled to that amount. Even full valuation legally covers the repair of the item, and then the depreciated replacement value if repair is not possible. So, in the case of the scratch on the table leg, scratch on the bed footer, and the broken drawer hinge, we would be responsible for professionally fixing the two scratches and replacing the hinge, which comes nowhere close to the $2,900 you are requesting for those three items. All of that can be done for $100 - $200 combined. In the case of the frame and painting, the solution under full valuation would also be to have both the frame and canvases professionally repaired (which is likely possible), or to cover the depreciated replacement value if repair is not possible. Again, for these items, even under full valuation, the amount would be lower than what you are requesting. With all that said, you chose to proceed with the minimum liability coverage. Yet, we are generously offering $600 (four times our legal liability), as that is likely enough to cover the majority of the cost to repair the scratches, replace or repair of the hinge, and to repair the frame and canvases. While we understand that you are upset and want us to pay you $7,600 for these items, we are in no way responsible for paying you the full cost of your furniture and artwork due to scratches/damage that can be repaired, and we will not be bullied into a situation which is well beyond reasonable. Artisan movers was amazing! They showed up when they said they would and loaded everything on the truck quicker than expected. Met us at our storage unit the next day 400 miles away and unloaded and move in the storage unit in under 2 hours! They secured and packed stuff very efficiently and made sure to tape things that were loose! At the storage unit we were concerned it may be too small but the movers played jenga and packed things in very safely and fit everything in. Disappointed after reading other reviews. I booked my move one month prior ... pack and move. SERVICE (2.5) Given my prior moving experiences I preferred to pack my own fragile items prior to the move and because they advertise that they would supply the boxes ahead of time, I requested boxes two weeks in advance of move. That request didn't go as planned. It took three days to get a response. That should have been my cue to cancel and go with another mover. I was assured by Marc that "we do this everyday and we are good at it." He did offer 10 boxes after my multiple attempts to get in touch with them. And for that I offer an additional star. UNDERESTIMATED & UNDERSTAFFED MOVE (-1). My estimater recommended a single day pack and move and assured me that he was staff the move with professional packers as well as movers. The "packers" did not speak English and therefore had trouble following instructions. While they packed for ease of moving, they did not pack securely. Further, they chose to split items that I grouped together to avoid searching for items during my unpack. This included separating power cords from electronics and bolts from the tables/desks that required reassembly. The foreman was irritated at the start because it was going to be a "long" day. I eventually called Marc (management) to split the move into two days (as I originally requested) because the foreman was confident they would not be able to complete the move in a single day. The foreman reviewed what he believed would take a max of 2 hours for Day 2 if he left the bed and a few boxes to be packed in the bathroom. After 12 hours day one, we wrapped up with plans to return at 7:30am the following day to pack, move, and reassemble. That foreman and team were reassigned and I was assigned half the team for day 2. In addition to being UNDERSTAFFED, the crew was LATE 1 hour. Further foreman from Day 1 chose not to pack an entire section he assured me was already packed. As such that extended the need for the crew on Day 2. Because the we planned for 2 hours only and the team was late, we missed the window to use the freight elevator. This bumped us to a 3rd day of moving. All items were moved Day 3. The team reassembled my bed incorrectly and they did not adequately staff or plan to assemble what was disassembled Day 1. In addition to UNDERSTAFFING & UNDERESTIMATING, the Day 1 crew LOST the bolts to reassemble a table and the power cords for the desk were packed in an unmarked box. POOR PACKING (1) For the most part, my items were packed securely. However, they were dispersed throughout multiple boxes (bathroom items in kitchen boxes and vice versa). Multiple Kitchen items were moved and intentionally left in the back of drawers and cabinets instead of packing. And I am still missing several kitchen dishes. One box of serving trays were completely destroyed because a packers decided to pile appliances atop the fragile trays. POOR RESOLUTION (1) After filing a claim for the broken items, the manager still did nothing to accommodate the poorly handled move -- UNDERESTIMATED, UNDERSTAFFED, WILLFUL NEGLECT. I was willing to pay for two days of service from the first day and asked for this. If the estimater simply took my word for the need to separate packing from moving, I believe this would have been an entirely different outcome. But alas, a woman couldn't possibly know what it takes to move her own things from a two bedroom fully stocked apartment. read more

I moved from a single-family home in Loudoun County to Arlington and requested quotes from six highly-rated moving companies. Artisan was the only company that came to my house and looked at the items I wanted to move before giving me a quote. That impressed me. Their representative Dimitry was so professional, informative, and detail-oriented that it convinced me to choose Artisan. Seven days before the move, my circumstances changed, and I needed to move a day earlier. Two days before the move, I was falling behind in my packing, so I requested that Artisan pack the items in my kitchen. Both times, Artisan agreed without hesitation. On the day of the move, their crew arrived exactly on time. They confirmed with me what needed to be moved, then began working quickly and carefully. I moved to a four-story townhouse, so there were a *lot* of trips up and down narrow stairways with heavy furniture/boxes, but the movers didn't have a problem. I got the best estimate cost from them, but the worst contractual process. The forms they wanted me to sign were very ambiguous, and I had to go through a few revisions with them and they still didn't get it right at the end when I terminated the negotiation. Also the agent did not seem to understand the company well. He said they employ salaried and contract mover employees. When I talked to the manager later, he said they only employed contractual movers. I went with Craig VanLines instead. A few hundred dollars more, but more straightforward in everything and they ONLY EMPLOY salaried, experienced movers. read more

Beyond frustrated with this company. I've tried to be patient and allow them some latitude in rectifying a situation with damage to my couch during my move. In fairness, the actually movers were good guys and worked hard during my move. However, upon reassembly, the electronic reclining feature on one side of my couch would not work. I contacted the office and they sent over a furniture repair guy, "not a couch expert" according to his words. He was unable to fix the issue or diagnose the issue. He told me that he would report back to the company with the results and they would contact me to file a claim. After a week and no contact, I called them. I was promised a call back in a few minutes, it has been 2 days and no one has called back. To add insult to injury, I can't reach anyone at the office to follow-up. I have waited to do this review until everything was closed out and completed. I wanted to be as fair as possible and I understand that things can happen during a move. This seemed minor initially, but has turned out to be very complicated and I am really disappointed with my experience. Again, I understand that things can happen with a move. I just want to know that the company will follow through on what they promised and so far, Artisan Movers have not lived up to their end of the deal. read more

Where do I begin... Let me start by saying I had high hopes given the great reviews, but I was able to look at a response from Dimitry to my bank after I asked for $175 to be refunded in merchandise they charged me for AND I had provided. I not only informed the initial salesperson who took my call that I had already purchased my own materials, but I was also standing in my driveway unloading the unused boxes from the back of my van when they arrived and I made a comment about them bringing extra material and I said: "I guess that's good in case I run out". Since this incident, Artisan Movers has also reworded their website to say that Wardrobe boxes will be Provided on ROUND TRIP Moves. Before this, it did not state that. During my packing, I was asked about the Wardrobe boxes and pointed out to the Foreman on site that the website says "Included with the move" and he called his manager who said too bad. I told them not to use any more wardrobe boxes since they were charging me almost $28 a box. In the end, the Foreman presents me with a bill and an extra $169 in material fees and when I asked him why he was charging me when I supplied my own, he stated because they didn't use mine, they used theirs. He called his manager again and said there was nothing he could do. I had a 3-year-old running around and said I would take care of it later since the movers would be arriving to get the boxes they had just packed. When I contacted them I was told the foreman said I never supplied them with anything and too bad, they were still charging me. When I disputed the $175 with my bank, I got to see the response, and he absolutely lied on his statement and I am now having to provide the string of emails since he was being very dishonest in his dealings. I waited to write this review in hopes of this being taken care of properly and without having to say something bad about a business. But the underhandedness and the up charging me for things I provided and then not only did the foreman lie, but the executive, Dimitry handling my complaint lied to my bank when asked for a response. This review is a year late, but thought it was a good opportunity to share more than one experience with Artisan Movers. Last year I moved from a storage unit in the DC area to a condo and used Artisan Movers, and had a great experience with them. The movers were quick and pointed out damage they noticed from how my furniture was stacked from the previous movers who moved me long distance. Artisan Movers weren't there to just do their job, they did it with care. It was for that reason, I chose them again this month when I was moving out and back to storage waiting for another long distance move. Kevin and Alex were AWESOME! Kevin the lead mover expressed how much it was also in the care of my furniture that was just as important as doing it as quick as possible. Kevin and Alex double wrapped my couches with the covers I bought and then shrink wrapped them. Moving pads that I had provided them, and that I had were wrapped around all my furniture as well as shrink wrap around them. I had bubble wrapped my chair legs after my long distance moved, but Kevin made sure they were extra protected with moving pads and shrink wrap. On top of that, Kevin and Alex did an EXCELLENT job packing the contents of my apt into a 10'x20' with plenty of room to spare for more packed boxes I need to get into storage. I will definitely use these movers again. I had to get all my stuff moved in for law school. They came to my house 15 minutes early and finished loading everything in half the time projected. The same goes for unloading my stuff at the apartment. All I had to do was tell them what I wanted them to take, and they planned and handled everything with care. They took great care with all of our belongings and were professional and courteous the entire time. They moved our entire 2 bedroom condo to our new home in four hours, including taking apart and setting up beds AND we ran out of boxes the night before and thought we'd just get to it later and move ourselves but they did it for us! When I requested quote from Artisan Movers, I immediately got a call from Lauro with a quick visit to my apartment for accurate price estimate. A lot of other moving companies had overpriced and inaccurate quote that was generated online. So I appreciate company's effort to give accurate price estimate by visiting on-site. My family did not have much to move and the price was affordable so I decided to use the company. I got a call the day before the move for confirmation and the workers came very early. They work very smart and efficiently. Since we had some bad experience with other moving company, we prepared our furniture beforehand for movers to take them quickly. But you do not have to do this with Artisan, they use proper tools and materials to move things as they are. Move went very smoothly and I was happy to tip the employees. I did have a small issue with travel fee charge. Lauro told us we won't have to pay 1 hr travel fee because we were moving from Rockville to Rockville. Since company is also in Rockville, I was informed that 1 hr travel fee wasn't necessary. This wasn't communicated to workers during the move so I had to pay the fee on site. I reached out to Lauro regarding this issue but I surprisingly didn't hear back. He definitely responded well before the move. However, I was able to receive a refund after reaching out to Marc couple days after the move. I appreciate company's effort to resolve small problems. While issues are issues, I definitely give full credit for effort to resolve them. I would only advise company executives to communicate small details to employees. But I definitely recommend this company. If there are any issues, company executives work with you very well. read more

I also received a call to confirm the move the next day. The team showed up at the beginning of the window allotted and did an exception job packing our furniture. On the other end, they unpacked quickly and efficiently ensuring that they put all furniture and boxes in the correct location, setting up the furniture properly and ensuring I was satisfied. Last month I moved locally, from a high-rise apartment building to a low-rise condo building (so a lot of elevator and hallway logistics involved). Marc was very responsive over email and phone from the time that I requested a quote. The morning of the move, the team of 3 movers were quick and careful with all of my items. I did have pretty much all of my items boxed up already, so I can't speak to that part of their service. However, they were able to take apart and put together a daybed quickly, which was the biggest item that I had to move. Also, my flat screen TV was wrapped very well and had no issues being moved over to my new place. Any boxes that seemed a little loosely packed were also taped and wrapped by the movers, which I appreciated.
