Prepared my spreadsheet and began entering the data from the dozen or so whom replied and/or I researched. I had hired movers to pack and load/unload before (with mixed results), but never to actually take my stuff out of my sight and drive away with it. (EEK!) Skylink Movers came in the cheapest, from $140 to $1500 less. (Yes, the estimates ranged THAT much.) Enticing, but the lack of reviews on Yelp (and many many hidden ones) made me nervous, despite the company having stellar reviews elsewhere. So I asked the owner to call me because I wanted to hear his voice and see if I detected any dishonesty. There was none. He sounded sincere, even when I asked him about the hidden, i.e., suspected fraudulent, reviews. I also reached out to one of the positive Yelp reviewers for a reference. (I didn't get a response.) Over the next week, I evaluated each moving company based on price, additional fees, reviews, timing, payment options including credit card surcharges, contract details and more. I talked, text and emailed with each of the finalists directly to confirm policies. I text TJ (I think that's the owner's name, I apologize if I got it wrong.) the most because even though he was coming up on top of the rest, I was still nervous. If I have any complaint, the only one is that I had to ask a few times for a written estimate/contract. But because he responded to each and every text (and there were A LOT!), I decided to move forward. Then I requested to change my date/time a couple of times. TJ accommodated as best he could, and ultimately Jay and Dominick called the day of the move and showed up at the exact time promised. I didn't have a whole lot of stuff to move, but I was surprised by the speed, strength and efficiency at which these two young men wrapped, packed and loaded my belongings. They were also very pleasant, polite, and friendly. One of them, knowing the difficult circumstances of my move, even offered me a few kind words of support and encouragement before they left, which was very appreciated. At my destination 3 hours away, Jay and Dominick unloaded with the same efficiency, putting items and boxes in their respective rooms. I'm not completely finished packing yet, but so far it doesn't appear as though anything is damaged or was jostled during the drive. Thank you, Yelp, for making me aware of Skylink Movers. I called and called, because I expected them to at least advise me. Josh told me he hadn't found a mover yet. On Wednesday I went through the same scenario. Me calling them. Actually, I called the previous week to see what my moving day was. I now know this is a last minute scheduling thing. Horrible. Leaves you hanging. I talked to their supervisor and Ashley said I had agreed to be flexible. I said I was flexible with the dates, but I was not flexible with not knowing. Thursday came. I had 1 day to move before closing at 9 the next day. I called and called. Josh finally said he had scheduled someone. At 10:32 he gave me the name of Hands On Moving. I called them. Same runaround. He said between 10 and 2. I called for confirmation. Hands On Moving said he was still trying to get in contact "with his guys". My husband and I didn't know if we should schedule another mover or not, as maybe they will still show up. I checked my bank account and they had pulled the money from my account. Now if we schedule another mover we pay twice. Hanging. Hanging. Finally at 3:30 p.m. Ashley called to say there was a problem with Hands On Moving and they couldn't move us today, but told me they would refund my money and to have a nice day. We now have 8 hours to find a mover and move. Don't put yourself through this.

First of all, they were at my house 15 minutes prior to our scheduled time and texted me, to let me know, that they're outside and to take my time, if I wasn't ready yet. So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. The items were mainly consolidated into main areas, anticipating that it would make it easier for the moving crew to quickly pack and move the items to the trailer. They were here for over 9 hours, packed the truck half full vertically, but filled the 28 foot horizontally. This is something I would expect from college kids who have zero experience as you get charged every foot horizontally you take up in cross country moves. So now, not only are we out $2300 for these movers, we are out an extra 3k because they used twice the amount of space that was actually needed if they had done it correctly. Military and families and federal employees- go anywhere else. This was an absolute disaster.

The only issue was that they left several long, noticeable scuff marks on the wall in my narrow hallway. That was unfortunate, but it felt fairly minor in the grand scheme of the move. Overall, the movers were professional, efficient, and easy to communicate with. I would still recommend them, but I would suggest keeping an eye on the walls in tighter spaces.

We met them at his storage unit and when we thought the storage unit would be too small, they looked it over and said they could fit everything. They meticulously maneuvered everything into our unit and got it all to fit! Because of this, they saved us from having to pay more money for a larger unit. While the crew arrived on time, there were only three movers instead of the four that were expected. I was then charged an additional $120 for an extra hour. One of the movers openly admitted that he had been out all night and was exhausted, which was evident in his performance throughout the move. The most frustrating part is that I moved into a brand-new construction home, and the movers caused significant damage. They put holes in my walls and scratched my stairs. I understand that minor scuffs can happen during a move, but these were deep gashes and holes that require repair. Before the crew left, I brought the damage to the attention of the lead mover. He told me not to worry and said I could file a claim using the claim number on my receipt. Since then, I have called multiple times and have not received a single callback. The only person I have been able to reach says she is in sales and cannot help me. No one has contacted me, and no repairs have been made. The lack of accountability and customer service has been extremely disappointing. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend District Relocators and would strongly advise others to consider a different moving company
