Sean is certainly capable of 4-star workmanship, but he doesn't deserve any stars based upon my recent experience of him abandoning our $20,000 job. After walking off our job he promised to refund the $6,000 deposit, then he changed his mind and made demands, then threatened me with a lawsuit. His outrageous temper and behavior shocked us and I will have him arrested if he ever shows up here. I've just learned that collection of my deposit is unlikely. In this year of 2026 Sean has refused to pay a First Circuit judgment (1DRC-25-0006744 - Juliana Simone, v. Sean Canfield) and DCCA might be compelled to pay this homeowner from recovery funds (Hawaii's Contractors Recovery Fund compensates homeowners for financial damages caused by licensed contractors who have committed fraud, misrepresentation, or abandonment). In a similar court case 1RC161003207, the homeowner and Sean cannot post online comments, so you can't learn about it here. Sean M. Canfield and his wife, Lisa Canfield, owed the IRS $35,000 in unpaid taxes resulting in a lien on their home. If the IRS cannot collect after many years, what chance does a homeowner like me have against him? He texted me "My wife is the CFO for Goodsill Law Firm" implying that he has the upper hand in financial and legal matters. Before you give any money to Sean, be aware that he might abandon your project and never pay you back. It happened to me and it could happen to you. Be sure to read the 1-star reviews here for the most accurate information. -Sean was the cheapest but I wish I never used him. -Nobody stole his equipment, that's a lie. -I've never posted a review before, but decided the public needed to know about this person to save themselves from the time, expense, and brain damage we've had to endure. I hope Sean never takes advantage of another person in our community. -he was screaming and yelling at us and slamming our front door, we locked the door because we were afraid of him. Police came and were apologizing to me for having to deal with Sean and gave it to him. -I have ample texts and audio of Sean completely going off the rails, and on some occasions making veiled threats. I'm not sure if I can share them on Yelp, but if anyone doubts my review, feel free to reach out and I will share them. Sean also attempted to pay me to remove my Yelp review, which I refused. -I would highly recommend NOT letting Sean refinish your floors. He completely wrecked our downstairs floor, didn't finish the upstairs, and simply took our money and quit. -it was obvious this guy was a talker and a salesman with very little real knowledge about hardwood flooring. Take heed of some of the other reviews and go with a real pro. -Anytime I bring up issue with floor he got worked up and blamed us. If can, use someone else, if no can use Sean. He not real good. -Called multiple times and left messages and no call back. Better to go with someone else that actually wants to work -I just read Sean's response which is not true. I wrote this review to help others, I have no reason to lie. -cost over $6,000. I asked Sean to give me a partial refund for the living room floors and he refused. I filed a case with RICO and they said that I would have to take him to court to get any money back. -have to pay someone else around $3000.00 to have their supposedly guaranteed work fixed. Oh and don't mention to Sean about writing a bad review cause when we did he screamed at us! Horrible work and customer service. You should be ashamed Sean! -Feels like I was conned by this company. They did not repair the damaged floor and covered with darker color coating. Still showed scratches that was supposed be gone with money I paid. Horrible job and bad attitude. -We knew then you were trying to set up more of a scam. You have decided to "mess" with the wrong people Sean. You are a sorry example for anyone that aspires to be a business owner. Your inability to take ownership of a mistake made by you or a mistruth stated by you projects your true colors. Four of my other family members were so impressed, they hired him to do their floors and are extremely happy - including my mother who is a hard sell. He even installs custom borders. Friends who have seen my floors, have called him and have hired him. They have been totally impressed with his passion and knowledge. Sean is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and the last of a dying breed of true craftsmen. If you are looking for a person who truly knows his craft, you have found the perfect company to hire. The last time we had our decks done they were done by another company that covered them in a stain that was extremely sticky. It was so bad we had to wear shoes on our decks. Chis sanded off the old product and used WOCA stain. Our wood has never looked so good. It has been a while since we had Chris refinish them and he just came by to check on them. We had some acidic rain that spotted one of the decks and he showed us how to maintain the wood if that happens again and some extra product. He is an extremely nice guy. We will be using him again!
