Great stylist. Really helpful in thinking about low-maintenance new cuts. Totally great.

Even before moving, I had done pretty extensive research for a trustworthy hair stylist in anticipation and Studio 89 was one of the top picks; even after monitoring my options over the span of a month, it remained the best. I tried to make an appointment online but had some technical issue so I called instead. This was all done the morning of, and yet they were able to have me come in later that afternoon. It's a clean, small space but it's got everything you can imagine. There's plenty of parking in front of the salon. Tiffany was my stylist, and I was warned that she was going to charge more than the other stylists due to her experience (note -- all stylists charge differently based on this). As a Californian who has paid way too much for the simplest of cuts, I can genuinely say Tiffany's surcharge was 1000% worth it. She was so kind and personable, and that really made the experience. She gave me her honest thoughts and was very communicative throughout the process. She really gave me the exact hairstyle I asked for after barely flashing her a photo, and I'm so endlessly impressed! Despite constantly cycling through short hair, I've actually never liked myself in it very much. However, Tiffany's work allowed me to feel more confident in rocking a short cut than I've ever felt! I've received tons of genuine compliments on her work, and I feel so lucky to have met her. Tiffany -- thanks for the sushi recs and candid conversation, and for being my first friend in St. Louis!

I have had a few different stylists as well Nicole, Sabrina and Tiffany and they are all pretty attentive stylist. They double checked with me multiple times throughout the service whether it was cut or color. The salon is neat and tidy. They have an easy way to schedule appointments online so you don't have the hassle of calling people. The salon is based on appointments only so would highly recommend making an appointment prior to visiting.

My first session with XOXO Alice was in 2018; it was purchased as a wedding gift for my husband. I…read morehad lost 100 pounds over the course of our relationship and was super nervous to have boudoir photos done because of how embarrassed I was by the loose skin that I had all over my body. I imagined options for outfits and poses would be very limited, and I would spend the whole time nervous as heck and hating myself. The super detailed instructions to prepare for the session were the first thing to set my mind at ease. I was glad to know I only had to personally bring SOME of the outfits I wanted to wear but that there was a full wardrobe of varying sizes waiting for me. I was greeted on the morning of the shoot by one of her kitty cats, which immediately made me feel more at ease. The conversation held between myself, Alecia, and the make-up artist that morning to determine the kind of photos we wanted to shoot was eye-opening and very information, though I felt like a shy newbie not having the answer on-hand when I showed up. Alecia used creative methods to get me the best shots possible and made me feel more at ease throughout the course of the day by cracking jokes to make me laugh and just have general conversation about shared interests (specifically pet birds). By the end of the day, I had come to love how my body was portrayed in a way I never knew was possible. The directions she gave throughout the shoot were kind and specific so that she got the exact bodily post and expression that she needed. My husband could not have been happier with the photos, and I will always cherish the self-esteem boost I left with. The second shoot I had was vastly different than my first. It took place in early 2022 while I was still scared witless about catching COVID-19. She had a process in place requiring each client to take a rapid test in their car prior to the session to confirm a negative result. This made me feel much safer considering she was the first person  outside my family and close friends that I would spend a day around maskless since the pandemic began.  Some relevant background information includes something that developed over the course of time since the initial photoshoot: this included the onset of chronic (nearly constant) pain in my neck, shoulders, and upper and lower back that is greatly flared by too much motion of my joints that were weakened by illness and major surgery recovery. I was nervous as all get-out to reach out to Alecia to see if I could request a session (via one of her model-calls on her Facebook page) thinking that I would be too hard to work with due to my physical limitations. Remembering how much I had to move or bend during the first session, I thought it would be impossible to have a similar experience again. My weak and painful body had driven me to hatred and depression because my body had all but given up on me. I had also put on a teensy bit of weight due to my inability to exercise. Alecia assured me that she could work with me to show me that my body wasn't to be hated and was confident that she could use feedback given by myself during the session to ensure she didn't cause an excess of pain. She ended up discussing my changing life situation while makeup and hair were being handled. Not only did she make me feel like a "normal" person regardless of my illnesses and pain, she made sure I knew that she saw me as no less of a woman or model. She did a lot of moving and shifting to accommodate my decreased abilities of motion and took my inability to stand for long periods of count all into ability when choosing the outfits and poses. We even made a sort of silly game out of taking water breaks since I am required to drink far more water than most people; she was sure to take a water break whenever I did and made sure I ate when I needed to. I was so shocked by the resulting images and felt like she helped me along the first step of accepting my new disability by taking myself for how I am and not just hating my own existence. I know this may seem like a little much to come out of a boudoir photography session, but she has a magical way of seeing everyone she photographs the way they need to be and deserve to be seen. I am already saving up for my next photo shoot! The first one was for my significant other, but all additional ones are purely for me!

"WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR LASHES?!" This is a question that lots…read moreof people (mostly women) ask me on a near weekly basis, all of which are absolutely shocked when I tell them my "falsies" are actually lash extensions! I have been seeing Alexis for my lashes since March 2018 and I have NEVER left disappointed; my lashes always look full, fluffy, and drop dead gorgeous every single time I leave her studio- she leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to how my lashes look and last. When I first got my lashes done with Alexis, I was very new to the lash extension world and had a lot of questions to ask (because let's be serious, you've gotta be careful with anything happening close to your eyes); Alexis answered all of my questions about the extensions themselves, how they are applied, and how to take care of them before she ever even began to glue any extensions onto my existing eyelashes. Ever since my first appointment with Alexis, I am absolutely hooked on how the extensions make my eyes look and how much more put-together I look, especially since I am forever sleeping in too late and sometimes just roll out of bed so I can get to work on time! Alexis does have a cancelation policy in place (she does ask for 24 hours notice to avoid a 50% service fee, which I feel is plenty reasonable as some places ask for 48 or even 72 hours notice) but this is mostly due to Booksy, the booking app she uses for her business, which is set to take out 50% of the service fee for late cancelations; the policy is listed in her booking system, so I'm not sure why everyone throws a hissy-fit when they get charged for not showing up to their appointment- reading is a wonderful thing, I'm tellin' ya! It has been a bit more difficult as of recently to see Alexis for emergency appointments (just when I feel my lashes need a little more "OMPH!" before a special event); I've had to start booking my appointments every two weeks for months in advance in order to hold a spot with her- she is booked at least five days out usually. SheSometimes if you just "stalk" the Booksy app for a while, someone will cancel in a time slot that will work for you, but it becomes harder and harder as Alexis's lash services grow in popularity. I would say the only thing I would say to possibly be cautious of is if you have allergies to animals; Alexis does work out of her home and she does have some furry-babies (all of which are friendly and none of which are allowed in her workspace), so if you have allergies to either dogs or cats, I would maybe take some allergy medicine first. All in all, Alexis runs an amazing business and helps hundreds of people in the Saint Louis area feel absolutely gorgeous, myself included! I recommend her to anyone and everyone who asks me about my lashes!

Went back to my car was furious so I call her through messenger no answer waited 10 more minutes nothing. She lives on South grand and finally responded back when I made to page and Sarah. She said I'm home but doing someone else lashes now but I didn't hear you knocking, messaging or calling me. Man I lost it became so angry ! Are you kidding so you gave my appointment time to someone else after you confirm the appointment time and date on the day she schedule it? I worked for Paul Mitchell the School OP for several years, so I tend to look at salons with more scrutiny than the average guest. I was impressed with The Hair Lab. They have great customer service, great communication, and their stylists take the time to do a thorough consultation. They offer beverages and regularly check in on guests while they're processing. The stylists take pride in their work and keep their stations and tools clean. Over several visits I didn't see a build up of hair from multiple guests on the floors or tumbleweeds of hair in the corners. They use and sell quality professional products. I saw Nina a few times for for balayage and haircut. She was wonderful, sadly she's since moved to Texas. It's super easy to schedule an appointment by phone or request one online. Their front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. Continuing education for their stylists seems to be very important and they stay up to date on current techniques and trends. The salon itself is really cute, modern, and easy to access. Both their street and parking lot entrance are wheelchair friendly, and their stations and wash areas seem to support accessibility as well. I would highly recommend The Hair Lab.

I really wanted to love my experience here because the salon itself is absolutely beautiful, and…read moreevery staff member I interacted with was warm, friendly, and welcoming. Unfortunately, the actual service I received was not what I paid for. I booked and paid $90 specifically for a curly haircut, which is a reasonable price in this area for a true curly specialist service. However, what I received felt more like a standard haircut rather than a curly cut. Before the appointment started, I thoroughly explained what I was hoping to achieve: more curl definition lasting beyond wash day, guidance on styling techniques, and a haircut tailored specifically for curly hair. Despite this, my hair was cut wet rather than dry, and there was no curl-by-curl shaping or specialized curly cutting technique used at all. As the appointment continued, several things made me question the stylist's experience level with curly hair. My stylist, Anna, seemed unprepared for the appointment. While styling, my hair was already drying and becoming frizzy in the front before products were even fully applied, and I had to point out that it needed to be re-wet. She also did not have her own diffuser and had to borrow one from coworkers. I had specifically mentioned that curl creams tend to weigh my hair down, but one was still used during styling. The diffusing process itself was also very uncomfortable, as I was instructed to hang the lower half of my body off the chair so my neck rested against the back of it. By the time my hair was almost fully dry, it honestly looked very similar to how it did when I walked in -- like I had showered, slept on wet hair, and done nothing else to style it. That was extremely disappointing after paying for a professional curly hair service. Anna could tell I was unhappy, and to her credit, she was kind and tried to fix things by washing the product out and attempting a blowout instead. Unfortunately, I still left with poorly styled hair. The face-framing pieces were going in different directions, and the overall result did not look professionally styled. I do want to emphasize that Anna herself was very sweet and pleasant throughout the appointment. However, when charging $90 for a curly haircut, a certain level of expertise and preparation is expected, and I do not feel that level of skill or knowledge was there. When booking, I specifically told the salon owner I was looking for an experienced curly hair specialist. I was told Anna was newer to the salon but had experience with curly hair and many happy clients. I truly hope this experience was just a one-off, but based on the multiple issues throughout the appointment, it did not feel like someone with advanced curly hair knowledge or technique. The owner did initially reach out afterward to try to rectify the situation, which I appreciated. However, after I responded, I unfortunately never heard back again. I had been very excited to come here because I've heard so many wonderful things about the salon, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I truly hope they take this feedback seriously because the salon itself has a great atmosphere and very kind staff.
