Unfortunately, what I requested and what I received were 2 totally different things. What I requested was a partial foil/highlight (to have my roots touched up to match my ends). As well as an inverted bob haircut. Sounds like pretty simple stuff for a seasoned stylist of 30 years, right? Wrong.. What I received, even after her attempt to "fix" my hair at a 2nd visit, was a horrible brassy, orange/pumpkin color... And, a cut that looks like someone put a bowl on my head and cut around it. Displeased is an understatement. A refund would have been appreciated. Instead, I have to leave this review and try to find someone else who can fix this. read more

I cannot say enough how great my experience was today! Kelly did my hair and was so patient and guiding as I went from my long comfort level hair to a really short style. I'm not sure how this place has remained highly rated. I walked out of Medusa's with what can only be described as an uneven mullet and pedophile bangs. Even though I'm working with a stylist at another salon to repair this monstrosity on my head, it will likely take at least 6 months for my head to look anything other than straight up dreadful. Please don't trust this place. Additionally, I was treated like a second class citizen. Please, when your idea of decor is glitter, dragonflies, and feather boas, you've got no room to judge. I won't use it because I'm already a regular and I know these deals are geared to new customers, so let me, a not new customer, tell you the tale of this glorious salon. I had been going to a certain salon for about 4 or 5 years. It was good, the folks were nice and always did a good job, but I never connected with anyone. It had this weird pretentious vibe to it and when I would call, they'd ask me which stylist I wanted and I'd just say "whoever's available" simply because I hadn't found ~the one~. About two years ago I decided that if i'm going to pay salon prices for a haircut/style/color, then maybe it's time to explore what else is out there. Medusa's had good reviews on Yelp (seriously, that's why I chose it, good job Yelp) BUT AT THE TIME DID NOT HAVE A YELP DEAL WTF!!!! So I give it a whirl. Picture this in your head: a salon. Now take that picture and throw it out of a tenth floor window because Medusa's is basically a place I want to live in forever. Go there once. I can't describe the decor. Just go. Kelly is The One. See, I was always hesitant to review this place because I'd be reviewing one person and I always feel weird doing that because It might not necessarily represent the business. But when the Business Owner is providing The Customer with their services directly, I'm pretty sure that warrants a review. She's awesome, honest, has great ideas, is friendly, approachable and is the only woman who can cut my hair and within 24 hours I'll get compliments from strangers on how rad my hair looks. My hair doesn't do anything but grow. Kelly does all of the magic and she has done absolute wonders on my hair. I don't know about the other folks there, but I don't think they'd be working with each other if they weren't completely amazing. Things to remember: pay with cash or check Shit ain't cheap, but why would you ever go to a salon and expect Great Clips prices? Also, you know exactly what you're supporting. You're handing the business owner your money so she can continue to run and grow her business with her people and that's one of the coolest feelings in the world. Just go here. Parking's on the street but there's always a spot nearby. I feel so weird even writing this because if I were a new Yelper, it'd probably be filtered as spam for seeming almost too positive but shit you guys, when you find The One, you just go with it and never look back. Recently moved to St. Louis from Chicago and I was nervous about finding a new hair salon- I found Medusa's on Yelp and decided to give them a try. Kelly was amazing- she got back to me quickly about booking and got me in within a few days. Her salon is cute, and they have drinks available while you get your hair done. She did an incredible job on my hair and I'm obsessed with how the color turned out! Seriously a better job than the Chicago salon I was scared to leave at a way more affordable price Bonus- She recommended products to me but didn't try to push anything on me or upsell me which is a huge relief for anyone who has ever been guilted into buying unnecessary product from a salon. I chose to go to Medusa Salon for 3 reasons. 1) I am obsessed with Mythology and especially the Medusa story. I do have a Medusa tattoo also. 2) Their website features a photo of one of every ones favorite yelpers Mrs G. 3) The Yelp Deal---buy $50 for $25. I called once and no one answered. I called a few minutes later and Kelly answered. I made an appointment with Kelly. when i arrived, Sherrie the other stylist told me that Kelly would be there soon, and offered me a soda or wine or beer. I arrived a little too early and did not care about having to wait. I only waited a few min when Kelly arrived. My appointment was at 2pm. I got there at 1:40ish. Kelly arrived at 1:45. The salon his very comfy. It has comfy couches and chairs. It gives you a very inviting feel. I have never had my hair cut dry then washed. I felt bad because I was riding around all day with windows down. My hair was a bit greasy. I told her i was growing my hair out. She made suggestions on a cut that would look nice growing out. she also cut a lot of bulk out. Kelly made suggestions for colors when i was telling her how i was realizing how many spot i missed when i colored my hair. After a few years of trying to find a new stylist, I think I may have found her. I will be back and I hope for a the long term. read more

I'm one of those annoying folks who walk into a salon and say, "Help! I don't know what I want!" and she handled that beautifully. She assessed the situation, started cutting, mixed up some awesome colors for me, and two hours later I walked out one happy gal. Love the whole vibe of the place. I found this salon on Yelp and BOY! am I glad I did!!! I was in search of a salon that could do my hair for my wedding. First and foremost, Kelly made so many wonderful recommendations during my original consultation that she is the reason I convinced the other 5 girls to join me. Kelly and Sherry were absolutely amazing. Kelly did my hair and makeup, and the makeup of all four of my bridesmaids and my Mother. Sherry and Kelly also split up doing the four bridesmaids and my mother's hair. The salon is SO cute and they let us invade their salon with all of us girls, my videographer and my photographer, not to mention my various family members stopping by. They let us do a little wine cheese/breakfast spread and they encouraged us to relax and enjoy our time together. They had all of us out the door on time (actually a few minutes earlly). I bought a yelp deal because I'm still trying to find my go -to salon after moving here, and this wasn't it. The salon itself is awesome, I love the decor. My hair cut however... not so awesome. It has been months and I'm still trying to fix what was done to my hair. I wanted long layers and was basically given two layers and one of them was very very short. It looks like I have a hair shelf. 3/4 of my hair ends at my shoulders (now after growing) and the rest is at least 3 inches longer (after cutting it). The color was really lackluster as well. I wanted red and left with basically the same brown I had going in. Really not worth the money... even with the yelp deal. read more

While passing through St Louis on a work trip I desperately needed a quick trim and shape up. Kelly was able to take me same day, after closing for a time that worked great for me. The cut was fantastic and I felt comfortable with her just doing her job without me stressing if she understood what I needed. I'm happy with my cut!! She is very knowledgeable; she told me a few issues with my hair I didn't even know about. She gave me tips on vitamins for healthy hair. And she's a great local guide! There are 2 words that best describe Kelly- hair genius. I was in St Louis from Los Angeles for a wedding, and needed my split ends taken care of. I saw Medusa's Yelp coupon and it was a done deal. I thought I needed a simple trim but Kelly suggested I get my thick wavy hair thinned out to make it more manageable. She took out a bunch of bulk dry cutting and then blended the layers after washing. It looked great when I left the salon but I wanted to wait till I'd lived with my new do before reviewing. I've styled my hair straight and curly and it looks fantastic. This is by far the best haircut I've ever got and I'm so sad that Kelly isn't based in LA! I was really blown away by the quality of the haircut, Kelly's easy going conversation style, the salon was really cute and the rates (even without a Yelp deal) are really great. read more

I love Medusa's! Their new location is conveniently located and they have done an awesome job decorating. Kelly says she got most of the funky decor from Craigslist -- wish I had that much CL talent. It's never hectic or rushed in here; there are currently only two stylists, so it's chill and relaxing. They always offer soda, beer, or wine, so you can get doubly chillaxed! Kelly has done my hair two or three times now, and every time it's a little different. She takes what you want into account, but offers her professional opinion as well. I trust her -- she's been doing this for a long time! I'm always super pleased with the results. Last time I got a cut and color, and once the color had developed, and we'd washed and dried (this is a seriously time consuming process for me because I have REAL thick hair), she decided it didn't look right and she repeated the whole process until it was perfect. In all I took up four hours of her time but she really wanted to make sure I was satisfied. She's very attentive to detail and wants you to go out into the world looking great. I'd love to get my make-up done here sometime as well! read more

I know it sounds stupid, but I hate haircuts ... maybe something to do with having had a bowl cut for a few years while growing up. So the fact that Kelly, one of the stylists at Medusa's, gave me one of the only two haircuts I didn't hate really means a lot. I came to her after the last hairdresser I visited gave me a very ugly blunt cut with thick bangs, leaving me looking a lot like Dora the explorer. I told Kelly what I didn't like about the cut, and she fixed everything. I was satisfied at the end, feeling like she was attentive, adequately listening to my concerns and taking her time while working. She finished within 40 minutes or so, but simply because she is efficient, not because she was rushing. She seemed very knowledgeable and experienced, and gave me some useful tips for styling before I left. Plus, she was fun to talk to! The studio itself is cute and inviting, thanks to the cozy armchairs, colorful decorations and unique artwork. It also seems like the two stylists have a regular client base, as both times I've been in there, they have been chatting away with the other guests -- that's a good sign to me. Plus, I've always been welcomed by name and offered a drink. I was happy, and I will be coming back the next time I need a haircut. read more

I love this salon! My sister is a stylist, and I usually wait until I am home in TN to have my hair done, but last Winter I was in dire need of a hair cut so I went to Medusa's. Seriously needed highlights too, I had just gotten laid off from my job and felt the crunch. I told the stylist that I was having a bad day, having just lost my job and that I was leaving town for a family funeral. She knew I was having a bad day and graciously gave me highlights for FREE! They looked awesome and it made my day. Since then, I have been back to the salon several times. It is such a cool looking place, everyone is so nice, and it's such a comfortable atmosphere. They offer some pretty wonderful deals for the services they provide as well. You're paying less than what it's worth. Think NYC / LA professional work done right in the heart of Soulard. I've been going to see Sherry for 3+ years now, following her as she moves and has totally mastered the funky red color hair style I've been looking for. I've been going to Medusa's since before it changed locations. I've had probably a dozen haircuts from Kelly, and they're always amazing. Kelly really listens to what you want and makes suggestions to improve upon your ideas, too. Her cuts are thorough and last for ages; I've gone months between haircuts (I know, I know) and my hair will still be manageable. I love that she does a dry cut, then the shampoo and blowout. She's meticulous and checks for your feedback periodically while cutting your hair, making adjustments as necessary. The environment is so welcoming and relaxing; I've been offered a drink (beer, wine, water, soda) every time I have my hair done, and clients and friends always stopping by to say hello and visit. I never feel like I'm being rushed out the door so she can meet another client, which hasn't been the case at other salons I've been to. I've never had my hair done by Sherry, but she's very friendly and fun to chat with. I absolutely can't imagine going anywhere else for a haircut, and I'm so glad I found this place. Medusa's keeps a clean space with a mishmash of interesting art and knick-knacks. Kelly did a great job cutting my hair. I showed her some photos I had collected, and while I didn't end up with anything from the photos, I feel like I got a haircut that will work in any situation I may be put in. It can be a bit crazy and also a bit conservative. I just care that she asked if she should trim my beard too. Perfect. I like the sides cut in, as I'm not a fan of having a beard make my face look wider than it is. Next time I go in, I think I'm going to try to get Kelly to go even further outside her comfort zone on my haircut. I sorta wish I had done so this time. read more

It was by pure accident that I found Sherry in 2005. No, more like fate. She is THE BEST hairstylist I have ever had, and I'm pretty old, Not that yoou'd know it, thanks in large part to her skills. I have very difficult hair. Extremely thick, extremely curly (afro-like), coarse in areas and fine in others. Sherry is a true artist. She can look at your face, examine your hair, and she just KNOWS how to style it to be the most flattering and easy to manage. And she is such a perfectionist. She takes no short cuts ever and does not stop until she and you are both fully satisfied. By the way, I'm always well satisfied long before she is. She just keeps tweaking until it's "just so". Never had Kelly, but if Sherry opened a shop with her, she MUST be very good. LOVE this place and Sherry! read more
