I cycle through the process of growing my hair out and chopping it off to donate, and it had reached that time for a haircut right when I moved to St. Louis. Even before moving, I had done pretty extensive research for a trustworthy hair stylist in anticipation and Studio 89 was one of the top picks; even after monitoring my options over the span of a month, it remained the best. I tried to make an appointment online but had some technical issue so I called instead. This was all done the morning of, and yet they were able to have me come in later that afternoon. It's a clean, small space but it's got everything you can imagine. There's plenty of parking in front of the salon. Tiffany was my stylist, and I was warned that she was going to charge more than the other stylists due to her experience (note -- all stylists charge differently based on this). As a Californian who has paid way too much for the simplest of cuts, I can genuinely say Tiffany's surcharge was 1000% worth it. She was so kind and personable, and that really made the experience. She gave me her honest thoughts and was very communicative throughout the process. She really gave me the exact hairstyle I asked for after barely flashing her a photo, and I'm so endlessly impressed! Despite constantly cycling through short hair, I've actually never liked myself in it very much. However, Tiffany's work allowed me to feel more confident in rocking a short cut than I've ever felt! I have visited Studio 89 a few times now and I have gotten great service from everyone who works there. I have had a few different stylists as well Nicole, Sabrina and Tiffany and they are all pretty attentive stylist. They double checked with me multiple times throughout the service whether it was cut or color. The salon is neat and tidy. They have an easy way to schedule appointments online so you don't have the hassle of calling people. The salon is based on appointments only so would highly recommend making an appointment prior to visiting. read more

I got my hair cut here today. I asked for it to be cut an inch below my shoulder and ended up with it being cut an inch above. I now will have to wait an entire year just for the length I wanted it to be cut at. It's embarrassing to wear my hair down and as a runner, having it this short makes it impossible to put up and stay up from run. Disappointed and sad is an understatement. The salon is super cute and clean and all the stylists are so sweet! I was there for about 2 hours (thick, curly hair is NO JOKE) and i was able to comfortably converse with everyone when i wanted to and also just quietly read my book when my hair dye was setting! My root touch up and blow out we're both done so SO well and were still looking incredible even a few days later! The color looks great even after a wash and I'm very hopeful it will last for quite a bit! Snagged a last minute appointment with Tara yesterday morning (booked online), and went in on a whim. I generally do a lot sleuthing before getting a haircut because I've got thick, coarse, slightly wavy hair and my MO is always "thin it out without adding too many layers, because shit's heavy". I've come out with way too many Lord Farquaad from Shrek cuts, mullets, and a lot of strange choppiness (from a wide range of salons/price ranges), so I'm always hesitant to try a new stylist. I was extra nervous because I was on a time crunch so couldn't be too choosy with openings. Tara was very friendly, really listens to what you want but offers her expertise as a stylist. I initially went in just to get my hair thinned out, but ended up deciding I was comfortable enough to get a few inches cut off and my bangs trimmed with her. I part my hair both in the middle and on the side, so she really took the time to make sure the face framing pieces and bangs didn't look crazy one way or the other. Unfortunately, I didn't snag a post-salon photo because I was rushing off to paddleboard. There's a 20% Yelp discount for your first time visit to Studio 89, but I was so happy with my experience and decided early on not to use it. I've been putting off getting my hair done for months because I have never had my hair look as good as when Sabrina did it, so I was being stubborn about finding someone new. I was so sad that I somehow lost her! However, after sitting down and digging today, I figured out it was the same staff and I FOUND SABRINA!!! I've been so excited all day for it. I would literally pay any price for this girl, it's been (embarassingly) over 6 months since I had my hair done by her, and honestly, the color still looks phenomenal. Tara is incredible! She is seriously the best at bangs and I have consistently gotten amazing haircuts from her. She is also the sweetest and always listens to what YOU want while also throwing in some professional advice about how to make that happen. The inside of the salon is very cute and cozy, and the staff I have seen there whenever I've gone was all very cheery and helpful. I am visiting St. Louis and I knew it would be tough to find a well reviewed Salon at the last minute especially with Covid numbers increasing again. I found Lauren's salon and was able to book online and give a brief description of what she would be facing and what I needed. I had not cut my hair in over two years so it was long and ratty. Lauren was great. She stayed in communication with me and was able to get me in earlier than expected during the day - which was great. She was friendly and knowledgeable, but most of all she was patient, open to ideas, and professional. She gave me a beautiful cut (9 inches of hair chopped off!) and was really patient with my balayage as my hair is dark and apparently did not want to lighten. I've been going to TARA for several years. She is simply the best when it comes to difficult hair.
