All these years later and I'm still a fan! I really enjoy my visits to Drew Henry and love the girls who work here! I was lucky enough to have Dani and Erin be the hairdressers for my wedding in 2017! They came to the hotel the morning of my wedding and got set up to do my hair and all my bridesmaids hair too! They were easy to work with and did a great job I had 5 bridesmaids, my mom and me all in need of "wedding hair" and these ladies delivered! I like how they traveled to me for this since I didn't want to be spending my wedding day traveling to and from the salon! So yeah, Dani and Erin have become a part of my Saint Louis family and I'll continue to support Drew Henry! I go every 6 to 8 weeks for my haircut and occasionally I get some color added. Making appointments is easy and I get an email reminder to confirm a few days before as well as a text a few hours before. I don't think this place deserves such a high rating on Yelp. I went here once and decided to never come back. They charge relatively good prices for their services, but you do get what you pay for. When I got there, I found one of the hair stylist chatting it up with the guests in the waiting area. That was fine, but I wasn't really greeted the way that I expected. They just told me my hairstylist will be done in a bit. Turns out a bit was 30 minutes. I was irritated, but I just wanted to get my hair done. I scheduled an appointment with someone that was available. Big mistake. You have no idea who you will get. I'm not going to say her name, but besides making me wait 30 minutes, a few minutes into talking to her, I could tell that she was not very experienced. She was very nice, but that doesn't compensate for experience. While I was okay with the hair cut, I was very unhappy with the highlights she gave me. I gave her a picture and she could not replicate it. She placed one of the highlights right under the part in my hair so the highlights didn't really show and they were not done all the way to my roots. After I was done, I looked like I got my hair done at least a month ago. I was not happy, but I was not going to complain about it because I didn't want her to try to fix it. I had already wasted enough time there. If you are willing to take the chance because of the cheaper prices, I hope your experience comes out better than mine. read more

Headed to see Dani, the owner of Drew Salon today (Sunday) for the first time. It's a really cute salon/art gallery on Cherokee in the middle of Antique Row. It's a great space and there is artwork all around from various local artists. I am currently trying to grow out my hair, so she mostly did a fix up and tidied up my layers and did an all over highlight job. Dani is a very nice girl and great to talk to....she has a very friendly personality. She was also very helpful in picking out products for my hair since it can be a little troublesome. I have lighter hair that shows a lot of lines etc.... so she textured my hair after it was dry to make sure it would look just right. I think she has a great eye for hair styles and a good attention to detail so I'll for sure be back!!! In fact, I already booked my next appt. :) read more

I'm pretty cheap, so paying more than $17 for a haircut sends me into a bit of a panic. I've always been a great clips/fantastic sam's kind of girl. I'd say I leave the salon happy probably 80% of the time and that's just fine with me. Hair grows back. However, I felt like splurging and was interested in taking a risk by dyeing my hair as well. This wasn't something I was comfortable doing myself, so I figure I'd finally go to a "big girl salon" and take the plunge. When I called to set up my appointment, they were very nice and accommodating on the phone. I was able to get a late-ish appointment with Erin, around 6:30. Once I arrived, I was able to sit in their hip waiting area and peruse some of the art on the walls. The building is really cool and it didn't feel pretentious like I assumed it would. Erin walked me through the book of hair color and with her guidance, I decided on one that I truly, truly loved. It was such a dramatic change for me, but it totally worked. The haircut I got was also exactly what I wanted. The only downside is that it's pricey to cut and color hair! That's not anyone's fault, so I didn't deduct any stars, but sadly, it's why I haven't been back in almost 6 months. The prices were decent for what I got, but it's still a bit more than I can afford on a regular basis, so it'll have to be a special occasion when I see her again. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to find a new salon, or try one out for the first time, as it might be. :-) read more

Ok- the place looks cute, and I'm new to the area so I gave it a shot. However the stylist had very little experience. I went in for a trim and a root touch up. The color of my roots is now a significantly different red color:(. She did trim my style ok The main problem was that the other stylist (the owner I think). She and her client were chit chatting and several racist and homophobic things were said. Not ok folks, and I won't return because of those statements. I had the worst dye job in 16 years of dying my hair at the Drew Henry Salon this past Sunday (03/04/2012). It took two hours just for Morgan to foil my hair (I have short hair) and the entire process took four hours. The end results left me mortified. I showed only one person my hair, a stylist friend in Michigan (via pics), and the first thing she said was "Yikes!" I had provided a picture of me with the exact dye job I wanted and said exactly what I wanted too and I most definitely did not end up with that result. I was so mortified with the results I took off work the next day, Monday, because I didn't want anyone anywhere to see my hair. If Drew Henry Salon had been open on Monday I would have come in and insisted someone other than Morgan fix my hair. Unfortunately the salon is closed Mondays so I was forced to find an open salon. I went to Salon St. Louis and Matthew was able, thank God, to fix the disaster that Morgan made of my hair. He acknowledged that she did a poor job also. $121 + tip later and I had hair I was willing to show in public. I am not rich, so the $121 + tip dye job to fix the $74 dye job at Drew Henry was painful for me. I am just glad Matthew could fix it at this point. Morgan should not be dying anyone's hair, frankly. She is extremely nice, but this dye job really was mortifying. I requested of the owner, via e-mail, that my money be reimbursed and yesterday she responded and said that it would be reimbursed in a day or two. It is not yet in my account, but I will check tomorrow and see if it has indeed been reimbursed. I will not return to Drew Henry after this extremely awful experience. read more

THANKS YELP for turning me on to this spot in Cherokee- always easy to get an appointment or to walk in and get your hair cut- good quality from all the stylists, although Erin is my favorite. I did make the mistake of trying some other spots a few months back and quickly realized if it's not broke, don't try to fix it. THIS PLACE IS SOLID IF YOU ARE A GUY and just want to get your hair cut. The fact that the place also doubles as a gallery makes return visits interesting in addition to practical. So after a less than stellar experience at the salon I'd been going to for about a year, I was on the hunt for a new place. One of the girls I work with had a great experience at Drew Henry, so I made an appointment and crossed my fingers. First off, I love the location on Cherokee, the fact that they double as a gallery, and the complete lack of snotty pretentiousness that comes with so many salons. The space reminded me of hanging out at a friend's south city apartment, if that friend just happened to have barber chairs and huge mirrors in their living room. They have vintage furniture, hardwood floors, cool music, art on the walls and everybody is super friendly. My appointment was with Erin, and right from the start she was super sweet and sooo easy to talk to. I explained my failed last cut, what I liked and didn't like, and the fact that I'm pretty clueless as to explaining things when it comes to my hair. But she still got it. She asked the right questions, explained what she wanted to do, made sure I was ok with chopping off a decent amount of hair (to fix the crooked cut I was rocking, ugh) and I completely trusted her from the start. It was fabulous. Once we got the cut figured out, she busted out a book of color options and I picked what I liked and she got to work. Never have I felt so comfortable chatting with a stylist before! We had a great conversation and at the end, I had a great cut and color! I went to Dani at Drew Henry today for highlights and a trim. I explained to her that I had half virgin hair and half processed hair, and that I wanted natural looking highlights in my shoulder-length, wavy-curly brunette hair to tie in the different-colored halves of my hair. I was a little nervous because I had never met her, but she put me at ease. In fact, I was feeling very nervous due to traffic and drama (non-hair related) and her friendly conversation and the laid-back atmosphere of the salon was very relaxing! So relaxing that I was blabbing on about my crazy family, but I am the queen of bad impressions, so this probably wont happen to you. The salon is professional looking, clean, and there is cool artwork on the walls. When I call it "laid-back", I mean the other hairstylists and patrons of the salon chatted while music played in the background. In a nutshell, this salon lacked the snotty attitude of other, pricey salons I have been to, but the cut and color were totally on point. My highlights look natural, Dani understood what I wanted without me needing to bring a ton of photos. She worked very quickly, and even gave me a blow-out, which was included in the price of the cut and color. I feel I got great value for my money, I am happy with my results and will return in the future. Great place! A beautiful gem located off Cherokee Street! I walked in and absolutely loved the ambiance and style of the salon. New to the area, I've been somewhat on a quest to find that perfect hair salon that you know, just gets me. I waited for my stylist hoping I wouldn't put her off with my indecisiveness. But nevertheless she was awesome. Aside from her sweet, patient and social personality, it's almost like she knew what type of hair cut and style to give me. Or at least she made the most of it but boy did she not disappoint! I do this all the time: unsure of what I want but carrying a pic of some celebrity with an idea of what I want. I came in and she cut the perfect amount off my long hair, brought some soft warm tones on my dark hair, and the best and more trickiest part is she handled my bangs with such precision and freedom. I am new to the Saint Louis area, and am very picky about who does my hair so I knew I was going to have a little trouble trying to find a good salon that was within my price range. I made the mistake of first going to the Paul Mitchell beauty school, because I had just started working and didn't have enough money to go to a legit salon. Probably wasn't my best life decision... My hair is a little troublesome for some stylists, so I should have known better. After paying $60 at Paul Mitchell for something I didn't like, I was very scared I was going to have to pay another $100 more for something that I would be satisfied with. After Yelping for a couple weeks, I had finally decided on the Drew Henry Salon because a.) Rave reviews about Dani (particularly with blonde hair) b.) They offer a $75 coupon for $50 and c.) It's only about 2 miles from my home. And man, am I glad I chose this salon! Dani did a fantastic job of fixing my color so that it was just right again, and gave me a GREAT hair cut. This is the first time in a long time that I absolutely love my bangs! Best part was that I only used $65 of my $75 Yelp deal, so she put me down for a $10 credit next time I come in. I love this place! Carrie cut and dyed my hair recently and I LOVE it! I had very short light brown hair and I needed a big change and a serious shaping up. With her help I went platinum blonde and she helped me choose a great color. And even better than the color was the cut! I went in with a pretty specific style (although open to changes and her artistic input) and she nailed it! Not to mention she is fun and super easy to chat with! Danny knows just how to do a guy's hair! I've notoriously difficult-to-manage hair and she not only gets it under control she styles it perfectly! I always get a cut and multiple colors and the compliments always come flying in, out on the street, in the store, at work, no matter where I go people consistently love my hair and of course I do too!!! Salon is chic; but not stuffy, and neither is any of the staff. I get styled by Carrie, she can take my frizz prone long hair and not only make it sleek and shiny, she never does anything I do not request. After years jumping from salon to stylist and getting terrible results, I am thrilled that I finally found a stylist that listens. I pull a ton of gold in my hair and have ended up with either orange or violet hair at some of the most reputable salons in town, Carrie makes it the perfect shade of honey blonde. Well, I'm writing this a little bit late as I have been a very happy customer since this salon has opened. I have created my account solely to give props where it is due. First and foremost, the best thing about Drew Henry is that the salon is integrated and each stylist is more than capable to work with all hair textures, (this is very rare in my opinion). My experiences previous to Drew Henry, left me so disappointed that I hadn't had my hair done professionally for five years. Additionally I have friends that live out of state that will wait until they are home to have their hair done at Drew Henry. They are talented and reasonably priced for their exemplary work. All of them work with natural hair and can do the coveted Deva Cut for curly haired individuals. As of now I've only had my hair done by April and Carrie. Each time one of them has done my hair I've gotten tons of compliments. Most recently I've had my hair dyed and cut by Carrie. The most impressive part of the process is that she was able lighten my hair to pure white without loosing my kinky curly hair texture. Both times she has created custom colors. Currently I am rocking pravana vivids, but the first time I had pravana pastel custom colors. I had my hair dyed on halloween and it is still as vibrant two months later. I constantly get compliments from strangers. One woman actually began crying and begged me for her information. From what I know at least several people have visited her after speaking to me. This is real ya'll, I went to the mall last weekend and received 20+ compliments within the first hour, I eventually stopped counting. Even today, I got seven compliments at mudhouse after being here for 2 hours I hope to upload a picture soon, once I figure out how to do this. Seriously these women are talented. I randomly found this place near me on Yelp when I needed a quick haircut. I usually go to Sport Clips. I would recommend this over chain-style places like Sport Clips and Great Clips because although you'll pay $25 for a guy's haircut, the quality will look and feel significantly better. I had the owner, Dani, cut my hair. She was polite and made me feel comfortable while she cut my hair. I am not sure if I agree what one reviewer said about homophobic/racist comments as this place is pretty hipster/socialist/feminist which are pretty far from racist/homophobic. Today, I got an awesome cut and look forward to future haircuts with Carrie. Growing up a hairdressers kid, I know my way around a salon and feel I know what to look for in a good stylist. She listened to me, was very polite, professional and cut hair with tenacity. She is a natural! I have dubbed this polished retro cut "The Boyfriend Cut". I noticed this guys great haircut one night at Sasha's and asked him who cuts his hair and voila he produces Carrie the girlfriend stylist. I lose her card and a few months pass and I can't stop thinking about the great haircut. I put my stalking skills to work and hunt her down via Sasha's. A cut so good and a stylist so nice that I finally decided to stray from my stylist/barber that I have been loyal to for the past three years, but hey everything runs it's course and I embraced some change had this haircut all of two hours and already had two people comment on my great hair. I love supporting an independent local business and especially one that embraces art and diversity. This salon is perfectly placed on very comfortable and funky Cherokee Street. Really stoked that so many unique new ventures are planting seeds here and I now have a good reason to get coffee, shop and get my hair did every 21 days on Cherokee Street. This salon has a perfect vibe. It is the creative workspace of some very capable, talented and progressive stylist. There is nothing pompous or arrogant about it. There is fun art, good music, great conversation and a place to go that makes you feel good and look better. As for Gina who gave the one star and malicious review. It is very unfortunate that happened. Your review was malicious. You intentionally wrote that review to hurt the stylist and the salon. The stylist and the salon did not intentionally make a mistake to hurt you. I understand that it is your hair, but it is not tragic! Not having hair because of cancer is tragic, hurricanes are tragic! I am quite certain that most people will agree with me that your review was overly dramatic and only showed your true color!
