Everything is 100% gluten free including the cones and baked goods!! I wish there was something similar in our area. My non-Celiac family LOVED the gelato and cones. It's a quaint little shop with the most delightful owner. She was so nice at explaining everything and letting us try the different flavors. So what is it? It's an ice cream dessert, that is usually intense in flavor and creamy in texture, but does not contain dairy products, or substitutes, nor fats, gluten, nuts and derivatives, soy, eggs, colorings, or artificial flavors. Hello allergen free! The flavors were so full and delicious. And there were so many flavors to choose from. There were new fruits I had never tried in combinations like the Soursop in Twilight (combined with Blackberry). It was my second favorite only to the Limon which is a tart lemon. Not a fan of tart? They have sweet flavors too like Mint Chocolate and Brownie. The Blueberry Cheesecake is pretty amazing too! I think between my dad, sister, and I we walked out with like 7 pints. This was such a great stop on our Matthews food tour! One of our friends recommended it and I was super impressed! First of all, this does NOT taste vegan. No skimping on texture, flavor or creaminess. You're allowed to sample a few before deciding so I took advantage since there was a ton of flavors and it was hard to choose! I landed on the tres leche flavor. I loved the little waffle that came with it. The gelato was fantastic. My only complaint was that the service wasn't very friendly at all. Wait was very long. There was a party of 4 infront of us and it took 20 mins for them to get their coffee and desserts. I did feel bad because it was a Saturday and one girl was working alone, but the full focus was on one party at a time even when the coffee was brewing we weren't being greeted or helped. Great unique flavors fill this gelato shop- some of which are bubble gum (not unique but wow I haven't seen this flavor since childhood), chocolate/orange, and apple pie. After sampling some, I ultimately chose to stick to my more traditional craving and go with mint chip. I had a some of my husbands chocolate/orange which was tasty as well! A small cone and a small cup came to almost $11.. it's is pricey!! However, I will say this is some of the better gelato I have had recently. They allow you to sample and don't rush you. Artisen is an absolute gem of a spot located in Matthews, NC! Don't let the term Vegan intimidate you - this gelato is tasty for every palate. They even have a case with a variety of sorbet as well as some doggie gelato to take home for your little buddy. What a nice touch! The texture is a little different than gelato you may be accustomed to, which is expected for vegan products. The waffle cones are all gluten free but the texture is very similar to a regular waffle cone. My only negative feedback would be that the young girls working in there were not very friendly at all and didn't seem to care that it was our first time visiting. Information about the business/product and a smiling face would have been a nice touch. Customer service has really gone downhill after COVID, unfortunate really. I drove 45 minutes with my kids to get here. The sign says they close at 9 PM, and we arrived at 8:55. Despite still serving other customers in plain sight, we were turned away. This wasn't for me -- it was for my children, who are 7 and 8 years old. They were very disappointed. They've always looked forward to coming here, and we've been loyal customers for years. What upset me most was the message it sent to my kids. They noticed they were being looked at differently and asked why they were turned away when others were still being served. What drew me in was the fact that they have a lot of unique flavors here. They offer mostly gelato but they have several sorbets and small desserts as well. I got a small mango passion fruit cheesecake gelato, and since my dog is spoiled I got him a doggie gelato cake. My total was just under $10. The gelato was smooth and super flavorful! It had small cheesecake chunks in it and the passion fruit purée had passion fruit seeds in it which made for a nice texture. Your gelato/ sorbet automatically comes with a waffle cone disk. The only thing I will say is the waffle cone was not as sweet as they typically are anywhere else, and the small cup was smaller than a mini blizzard at Dairy Queen. They have their own parking lot and the store is clean, bright, and the staff are so friendly. Whaaaaa... how have I not been to this place yet? Probably because I've moved away from the Matthews area, but it's nice to come back and visit all things Matthews. Artisen is small, unassuming gelato shop that really packs a punch as far as flavorful experiences. The offer Ecuadorian gelato - which, I'm sorry to say, I did not know was a thing. All their gelatos are gluten, nut, dairy, soy and completely organic. So vegan friendly. Yet, I'm not sure how they create the creaminess... other than magic. A purple-haired birdy showed me this place and I'm so glad we went. We did have to "cheese-it" across some rush hour traffic, but it was well worth it. Large parking lot, and when you walk in you see the large case of all the flavors in front of you with super friendly staff waiting to serve you deliciousness. Sample all you want, I usually just go for a flavor and dive in. There's a large open dining space with a display in the corner on the history of their sorbet/gelato process - so it's super educational for kids. Overall, this place is great. I will make it a point to always go here since their gelatos are so good and refreshing (even when full of food). read more

I especially loved that i could enjoy a GF cone I have since purchased pints on several occasions and taken friends there as well...that said, my most recent experiences have left me a bit disappointed. We let the lady know it was our first time there but nothing wow'd us about the customer service after that as she seemed nonchalant about our first visit.
