Local Scoop is one of a handful of locally owned and sourced ice cream shops in Charlotte. My husband and I had been here a number of times after it replaced Ben & Jerry's but for some reason until today's visit I didn't think of writing up how amazing is this place. I prefer creamier ice creams, sort of like a marriage of soft serve and scoopable ice cream, which might explain in part why it's my favorite in Charlotte: the mouth feel is more like gelato. The service always being friendly and tastes handed out equitably are more good reasons. But in the end, the ice cream is why we visit an ice cream parlor and Local Scoop delivers in spades. Today I tried one of their rotational flavors, red velvet Oreo, and it's maybe the best new flavor I have tried anywhere in years. Rich without being overwhelming, flavorful without smacking you in the face with the red velvet part. The Oreo chunks were plentiful and melded into the red velvet ice cream like a marriage made in dessert heaven. Finding Two Scoops is a little challenging since it's hard to see from the road, tucked behind some steps next to the exceedingly popular Easy Like Sunday. But once you find it, you will want to return again and again. I promise you'll think you're at a creamery. It's just that good. read more

Went here in a 106F day. Yes my car display hit 106F!! Ice cream was the perfect call. The shop is clean and cool. Much smaller than I thought it would be. They have 3 small tables and a kiddie table inside. Lucky for us, the place was empty. Given the location, we knew it would be pricy. With a 15% tip, the total came to $20. My son got a medium (2 scoops) in a cup and I got a medium in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. The important thing - the ice cream was delicious. We both enjoyed it very much. But... A tip to the owner - and sorry to be so blunt - the medium cup size is a joke. Way too small. Like way way way too small. I bet I got 50% more ice cream in my cone and see the pic - it wasn't overflowing. The large cup might even be too small for a medium. Given the price tag. When someone orders a medium, the portion size should be bigger but the worker is limited due to the size of the cup. Even though the ice cream was good and the waffle cone was fantastic, I doubt I would return. read more

We stopped in here after dinner in the same strip...and they had a pretty good selection, and the pricing was pretty friendly as well. We both opted for Medium cups, where you can choose 2 flavors. I tried their Vanilla Bean and Cinnamon Brown Butter. Since the second scoop, Cinnamon Brown Butter was so big (and just smothered the Vanilla Bean on the bottom), I didn't really taste the Vanilla Bean that well. Guess my complaint is that the Medium cup was too small for 2 scoops. The second scoop (second flavor) was just mushed right on top of the first scoop. It would have been better if the cup was bigger so you can separate (at least just a bit?) the scoops...not blended into each other. I could be wrong, but I also didn't see any selection of topping like some ice cream chains. Overall, it's a solid, yet basic ice cream stop. I would have liked it better if the presentation was cleaner...where you can taste each flavor separately...not in a blended format. Both my husband and I were actually kind of full when we went for this ice cream, so we just ended up tasting mostly the first flavor on top. Terrible presentation-format. Finished dinner in the area and wanted a nice treat, so we stopped here. The workers were really nice! Since it was our first time visiting this brand and location, we asked to sample a few flavors. Amongst the sampling were coffee toffee and blondie. Both were incredible, so we went with those. The portions were generations and every scoop was packed with great flavor! Treated the kiddos to lunch at a restaurant next door and when we walked out they saw The Local Scoop across the courtyard and I just couldn't say no... We were delighted to find that in spite of a bustling crowd outside at other establishments - we were the only guests that ventured inside for ice cream! We felt like VIPs... the employee was the most friendly and patient I've ever encountered ( so sorry I forgot her name - but she is an absolute gem of a human) There is a delicious assortment of ice cream flavors to choose from! We enjoyed Cookie Monster, Apple Cider Sorbet (seasonal), Honey Vanilla and Butter Pecan. I strongly recommend The Local Scoop for ice cream and the cute decor and photo opportunities! read more

I don't eat as much ice cream as I used to, but recently I had a hankering, and luckily for me the Local Scoop was right nearby. Located in one of my favorite shopping centers in the city Parktowne Village, this small little ice cream shop has some amazing flavors. What's more is that if you are having a hard time deciding, the employees are very friendly and will let you try a sample. From you basic flavors like chocolate or vanilla, to your more unique flavors like banana foster, the ice cream is fresh and all of their ingredients come from local farms. The ice cream served here is beyond words. I have never had such a good sundae in my life. The flavor choices are rather well spread out and cover enough of the bases for perfect ice cream combinations. Normally I prefer milkshakes but the presentation of the sundaes was attention grabbing. The service was perfect as well. The two ladies behind the counter were very engaging and fixed up three sundaes before we knew it. The ambience is nice, the soft color palettes of the shop makes you feel like you're in a vivid dream. The prices are just right for the sizes too. We recently stopped by the Local Scoop as I had been wanting to try a seasonal flavor. We were offered samples, and were hooked right away! What we got: King Cake - cinnamon ice cream with colorful icing swirls and pieces of king cake from Suarez Bakery. I love that they use a local bakery for ingredients!
