(Drought, deer, wind, Intense direct sun, old irrigation, bad valves, water leaks, a clay hill with no soil, roots everywhere that required major excavation), not to mention how tired I had been of looking at rosemary and lavender for so many years. I wanted vivid color out front without having to constantly look at yet more rosemary and lavender. My front needed a serious facelift!! I found Bret via positive reviews on Angie's List and Yelp but wanted to find out if I'd be comfortable hiring him, first hand. I am not mentioning price in my reviews as it's not relevant, each project is so unique and my property is very large. The reason I selected Bret was his highly skilled background, creativity, positive attitude, promptness, approachability, his willingness and ability to listen to my many concerns, his level of expertise in understanding the difficulty in landscaping the type of area I live in, and just the challenges of keeping a custom home looking good and well maintained in Lucas valley. My front yard had not weathered last year's frost very well, had suffered years of neglect and many things just looked tired, woody, overgrown and seriously weathered. From day one it was clear that Bret's sole purpose was to provide me with a plan that achieved everything I wanted (and that was a lot!). I've always believed that you get what you pay for and Bret and his crew is worth every dime spent. Bret exceeded my expectations on every level. He very respectfully steered me in the right direction with plant choices and enthusiastically shared the design reasons for those choices. I met with him at a wholesale plant nursery in Petaluma where he pre-selected what he thought would do best and then together, we added, changed and modified to the exact liking of what I wanted and what he knew would be a good choice. He had no issues with my not liking certain plants and was open to my suggestions and together, we came up with the perfect solution. No ego involved and no hurt feelings when I would bluntly say 'I hate that plant'. He would kindly pull it aside and suggest something else. When I pointed out a few that I liked, he explained why they wouldn't work in my area, saving me money and a future headache. He truly does know his plants and trees. The work occurred over a pre-determined schedule; the crew was always on time and put in very full days. We encountered a few unexpected problems such as a serious main water line leak I would have never known about, but the problem was addressed on the spot and I'm ever grateful for everyone's willingness to work hard, even in the grueling intense heat we encountered each day. All scheduled deadlines were met and the job was completed when promised. The cleanup job left the house looking better than before the project was started. This is one hard working crew of guys!! I highly recommend Bret and his company "For your Gardens' Needs' and want to point out how important it is to realize that it's not about shopping price, it's about shopping expertise, having someone truly listen and care, provide quality workmanship, professionalism, knowing that the job will get done right the first time. In a nutshell, Bret is beyond amazing. He transformed my overgrown front yard into an unbelievably gorgeous property! Not only is it bad business he never once offered to look at it, try to understand why I was not happy and just took an attitude on it. He is very amicable and friendly in the beginning but I would not recommend him for anything because of the attitude. His workers if supervised did as asked they are just not managed well and he obviously does not care about his customers very much!

It's spring of 2020 in the middle of a pandemic. Our 28 year old drip irrigation system has baked…read morein the sun over the years & been patched multiple times. Our big water bill clues us in that we have a leak. Although we're finally allowed to have outdoor gardening services again, of course everyone is swamped and few are specialized in repairing irrigation systems. The irrigation supply store Watersavers in San Rafael recommended David Melendez of Marin Landscape Service so we gave him a call. What a great recommendation! I can't say enough about how professional, courteous, knowledgeable and supportive David is. Unlike a competing irrigation professional I talked with in Fairfax, he came out without charging a fee to assess the problem and then scheduled a prompt follow-on visit to repair the system. Our controller was shot and we needed a replacement controller of approximately the same size that could be placed in the same location. David listened to our needs and found a programmable controller with more capabilities than the one we had that allows me to control the irrigation with an app on my phone. I love not having to go out to the controller and sit on the ground to have to change the settings. Even better, our irrigation controller is now updated to a more water saving technology that adjusts the watering automatically by taking into account the local weather, including higher or lower temperatures and rain in the forecast. In addition to replacing our ancient controller, David repaired 2 of our valves that also had problems and patiently stepped through how to program the controller while I filmed his lesson on my phone. He also recommended how long to water during the current season. You can't go wrong with David Melendez at Marin Landscape Service for your irrigation system repairs. (The added bonus is that he's a super nice person with a great sense of humor!)

I emailed other services with no replies, left voicemails with no callbacks, and was even promised someone to come by and look, but didn't show up. I did leave a voicemail for Aaron to get back to me and when he did, the network decided to drop the call. It wasn't his fault, so I knew to call him when I had a more stable connection. Since he was the only one that responded, showed up, and gave a synopsis of the project, taking into mind my budget, I couldn't let it go. The day Rob and his crew came, it took under an hour to get the task done. He went over what Aaron recapped for him, and went it over again with me so we were on the same page. He asked more questions that were missed the first, like keeping some of fences or remove them. They cleaned up after themselves and put all the foilage in the bin for disposal. Friendly, efficient, and fast. I could see what they were doing and it was impressive to see the backyard mess go away. It was pretty difficult to contact garderners around here during this time, but with patience, and good reception, I'd recommend Sampson's Landscaping. I know I will when the place becomes a mess again.
