The instructors and the staff are all very professional and experienced. Our daughter's teacher is a good fit. The class structure is very rigid. Do not expect any credits if you need to skip a week. On the flip side, the instructors are allowed to cancel with short notice for their own personal reasons. Our daughter's teacher has musical commitments a few times each year and this she misses out on lessons 4 or 5 times a year. The actual spaces can be hit and miss. Our daughter is in a small room in the basement, with very poor acoustic control, immediately adjacent the early learning room where very young kids clang and bang loudly on instruments including pianos and other loud instruments. Not very condusive to a quality private lesson environment for our child. In general we are happy.

Place des Arts is wonderful! They have courses for children as well as adults in everything from…read moremusic, dancing, drama, visual arts and more. I have taken three courses here (two spinning classes and a weaving class, as well as a short felting workshop) and have loved them all. The instructors are so knowledgeable and experienced that even in a beginner class you come out of it feeling like you can take on any project. If you are interested in the arts, this place will surely have something for you. And one of the best things about them, other than how incredibly affordable the classes are, is that they offer most of their programs in the evenings as well as during the day so those who work or go to school can still go.

This review is for the PoMo Arts Center, right in the heart of Port Moody (NOT for the entire city…read moreof Port Moody, as the earlier reviewer was somehow under the impression). And the POMOarts Center and organization in general is pretty darn fabulous. I was only recently introduced to PomoArts by an awesome friend of mine who is an artist and recently exhibited some of her artwork here (check out the PoMo "Art4Life" website for info about this awesome exhibition showcasing over 20 artists. The show is on for a month, admission is free, and it's super cool, with a diverse variety of local artists' works in many different mediums). This art organization is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! The PoMo building here is beautiful, in an old "heritage building", reminiscent of some of the traditional, historic buildings in Fort Langley and elsewhere in the province. And I really liked the whole philosophy behind this arts-focused organization, how they aim to make art available to everyone. In that vein, admission to their art shows are open to the public, and they encourage all to come, to be involved, to participate. They offer a gazillion programs for everyone from toddlers to teenagers to adults of all ages, like a real community center with programs for all. I really like that. If I lived closer, I'd definitely enroll in some of these programs. This building not only has rooms for gallery art shows and classes, but they also have a super gift shop where you can purchase artsy items made by local artists and artisans (see my review for the Blackberry Gift Shop). HAHAHA you can review the entire city of Port Moody now?!?…read more I grew up in this city for most of my formative years, and of the suburbs in the lower mainland I would say it's the most scenic. The entire city is based around the inlet, which stops at a beautiful and massive park in the center of the city. Most of the services and neighborhoods of this city are also based around this area, and it's the primary outdoor recreational spot here. There's been some huge developments in the central neighborhoods of Port Moody, with new condos springing up constantly. To the north of this neighborhood are the very rich, to the west the very poor. St Johns and the street behind are made up of mom and pop businesses that make up in authenticity what they lack in profit. Except for the pubs, which have always made a killing on college-aged locals. A lot of people I grew up with never left Port moody, instead opting to move several blocks away and keep in touch with their families. I personally thought it was a terrible place to grow up (bored suburban teenager) but would move back in a decade no problem. The ambiance is super cute, with colorful, warm vibes. The music always soothing, and you even get hot tea and Turkish delights in bites. 1) booking has never been easier. We selected the pick you piece on site. So go earlier so you can browse and really find the piece and size you want. 2) go early, so you can start planning what kind of mosaic you plan to design in your platter. 3) be mindful of the time. You get 3 hrs, but the hours go really fast when you're having fun, and you're also new to this. Set some time aside, more than 1 hr, so do the filler beading at the end. My friends and I really pushed the boundaries of time limit and was rushing to finish our beading filler. Still super fun, but super intense thinking we wouldn't finish on time. Definitely would go back and do this again. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The establishment was clean and chic. Please note that this isn't wheel chair friendly and that you will have to go down a bunch of stairs to reach the studio. Price was right! For unlimited glass and beads. And for just the whole experience. Really recommend it! Parking was easy to find outside. Paid meter, bust its only 2 hrs max? So had to go up again to refill.. send a friend up with your receipts so one person can refill all the cars. Or carpool!

Hands down, the best art workshop around!…read more At the Mosaic Art Studio you can make your own traditional Turkish lamp using hand cut mosaic glass and beads. I've never been to a more satisfying art workshop. You start with a specific project in mind (think Candle Holders, or different shapes of lamps... Table, Aladdin, Swan, and Moon lamps). They are all the same difficulty and range in prices from $79-139. In their studio, you spend 3 hours making your lamp, and what may seem like a lot of time, those precious hours will fly by. Their studio, which is just across from Columbia station, is gorgeous! It's decorated with rugs and lamps and intricate Turkish pieces all set to get inspiration from. Each workshop table has an assortment of colorful beads and hand-cut glass pieces. You also get a handy sheet that has examples of designs that you can use for your creation. It's fun getting to design your own lamp. You have the creative freedom to choose the color, shapes and styles, or you can even wing it. Whatever you choose, it will come out perfectly following their instruction on what to do. Once you're finished making your glass bowl insert, the studio takes two weeks to seal it to preserve your design. You'll receive an email when it's ready to collect. And at home, you can marvel in awe of what you created. I've also booked the team here for an in-office team-building group workshop, and they were fantastic. They set up everything similar to their studio and even played the traditional Turkish music. The instruction was clear and they had plenty of their friends to help on a one-on-one basis if anyone needed help or advice. The team here make it a really seamless process and I couldn't recommend them enough! Come to their beautiful studio or book them for an event, either way, it's a fun time creating your own Turkish mosaic lamp!

They said they would hold our items for three months and if not collected, they would throw them out. After not recieving any type of email for two months, my boyfriend drove all the way from abbotsford to this shop to pick up the art that we had created as he wanted to surpise me with it. Once he went into the shop, he dicovered that our art was not there anymore, they had lost it or thrown it out. This is so sad as they were a pretty expensive price as well i would say so. I am so dissapointed as this was something very special for us and it has been completely ruined. So i would reccomend you go to a more professional place where they dont throw away your things and actually email you when your art is ready. I would give this a 0 star review if i could.

I've done a few drop in events with my daughter and a class or two with my then 3 year old. Most recently we held my daughter's birthday party here where they made little dog style ceramic cups which turned out really cute. All the girls loved their art once it was ready. There wasn't enough time for them to paint the details unfortunately but the studio did that for them so they ended up with a finished cup that they can actually use! Was a great place for a small crafty kids party and the classes are nice too as the kids end up with canvas art and things they can use or display. I miss the splatter parties for the really little ones! They were so much fun.
