There's a small parking lot at the start of the trail with public restrooms. I believe it's about 1 mile around the lake and a nice easy loop. The water is a beautiful blue and Harper Lake is part of the Leon Wurl Wildlife Sanctuary. Good spot for a stroll. Wear sunblock, not much shade.

Plenty of trees and benches around the perimeter ensures that your visit is a pleasant one if you choose to walk the trail. Even though this is located near a busy city street there is no traffic noise, only the sounds of wind rustling through the trees and other sounds of nature. A peaceful little getaway that you don't have to drive hundreds of miles to get too.

They have a couple small parking lots but it fills up quickly so per usual with Colorado, the earlier the better. I came yesterday for birdwatching during sunset, and it was such a good experience! We saw a variety of birds, including waterfowl, hawks, sparrows, blackbirds, and I think even saw a golden eagle. The trail is gravel and goes all the way around the lake. It's very well-maintained. There is a small boardwalk that takes you close to the water as well. This is a great place to go on a short walk with family, or you could grab a drink and come with a friend to catch up. I so many people walking their dogs, and it seemed like a good trail for pets. There are two playgrounds around the lake and a tennis court. We passed friendly folks and families. The trail has many homes nearby and is located in a residential area. I parked on the street, and one of the neighborhoods and parking was easy to find. I'll definitely come back again for some outdoor exercise!

The river in the canyon is always flowing and the breeze feels wonderful on a hot summer day! If you like to rock climb this is the place! The boulders are majestic and the views are spectacular! On a clear day you can see Denver in the distance! It is a state park so if you buy the park pass for state parks your entry is covered. Otherwise vehicles are $10 entry and walking in will be $4 per person. The state pass is worth $29 and you can buy it when you purchase a yearly tag for your vehicle. This park has lots of parking but on weekends you need a timed entry during the busy season. There is a visitor centre, bathrooms, and a water bottle refill station. Picnic tables so bring your basket and snacks!

We've visited this park a few times and unfortunately this most recent experience was less than…read moreideal. We brought our kids who are young but capable at throwing discs. They are learning the rules of disc golf and getting quite good. We typically skip hole 5 due to the extreme blind throw over the creek and the kids just can't quite throw that hard yet. This particular day was quite busy and we were doing our best to ensure we weren't holding up the people behind us. We skipped hole 5 again and waited behind a couple of people at hole 6. A group came up after us and when it was our turn, they stepped up in front of us as if take their turn. I was confused but tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and said it's ok if you go ahead of us. The man immediately and argumentatively harassed us for having cut the line. My husband stepped in and tried to diffuse the situation, while trying to understand how he came to accuse us of cutting when that was precisely what he'd just done. Apparently he saw us skip hole 5 and didn't understand why and thought we just didn't want to wait. I completely under this point of view but unfortunately he wouldn't let us explain and essentially screamed at us until we decided to walk away. It was a truly unpleasant experience and I feel as though we could have discussed it more civilly but were never given the chance. I haven't ever encountered anyone that passionate about playing every hole, but with kids that's just not possible. I hope we are able to visit again and put this behind us but I suppose I just want others to be aware that there are players who feel strongly about certain aspects of this course. Overall it's a decent course with lots walking which is the part we previously enjoyed.
