Definitely don't show up late... On my way to an appointment the train got stuck in the tunnel and so was unfortunately delayed. I tried calling and with minimal service I had was able to get through for a minute to let them know I'd be late and was told rather rudely I would need to reschedule... for being MAYBE 5-10 minutes late because "we have a full day." Did not appreciate that - your clients have full days and it is not easy to get out of the office to schedule doctor appts for most people who work in downtown SF. I got off at Powell right at my appt. time and called back and got a slightly nicer associate, but I was only calling to apologize the first call was cut off and for the fact my train got stuck since I had been told to just reschedule. I hope they don't try to charge me for a missed appointment and will fight if they do. To the second associate's credit she tried to say she would see if they could fit me in but I just did not appreciate how I was spoken to by the first woman and was already turning around. Probably only doing it because she could tell I was clearly flustered. If you can't schedule in buffers to accommodate your clients then I will need a dermatologist with a staff that better understands their clients' lives and schedules. Dr.Meghan handled my case. I was there for eczema issue that caused by allergy, despite how trivial this might looked to the doctor, I was at least expecting she would explain to me what I shall do to avoid this from happening. Well, she was only there to talk to me for up to 3 mins, and gave me prescription for a cream to apply to the infected skin, and that's it. I had to ask if there's any allergy medication i shall get, and if there would be any side effect by using those medicine. Felt like I was doing her job for her. Yet even better, I went to the pharmacy after work to pick up the drugs that she prescribed me, only to find out none of the allergy medication she wrote me on a piece of paper was electronically written into the prescription. tl;dr, thanks Dr.Meghan, I took 30 mins off from a busy working day to see you, only to be told what I already know, and no medication for treating my blisters. And yes, I should have read the yelp review before making my appointment, time and money wasted. read more

I would recommend them, with some complaints: Pros: Super easy to book with (usually can get appointment within a few days); beautiful, clean office; professional, competent staff; prescriptions come fast and easily Cons: Dr Hession only saw me for 5-10 min tops, and didn't care to probe into my overall health and medical history. She prescribed me a plethora of medicines within minutes of seeing my skin, some of which aren't good for long-term health or addressing my root problems. An example was a steroid ointment, with no discussion about how steroids can worsen your skin if used too long. Dr. Krishnan was really nice and took my acne issues seriously. She helped me try several medications and eventually I went on Accutane which absolutely was a miracle drug. The best part was that she actually realized that I could get insurance to cover my treatment if I went to another dermatologist so she helped point me in the right direction. Everyone deserves a doctor that's curious about symptoms, who listens, and provides support outside of a 10 min. appt. Not one of Dr. Krishnan's medical or cosmetic treatments helped and her practice had several limitations that were not disclosed until after I wasted time + a portion of my HSA funds. The office is pretty but it doesn't matter how aesthetically pleasing things are if you're being treated poorly / not at all. Details, if you want them: APPOINTMENT: I requested 2 appts back to back because I wanted to go in depth into a medical condition and use the other appt. for "frivolous" skin care things. The receptionist agreed but only booked one and didn't tell me until I arrived. She said I could ask my cosmetic questions at the end to save fees. I didn't ask for that & would have preferred paying twice given that Dr. Krishnan didn't seem to be aware of this, acted like she was doing me a huge favor, and suggested a follow up, which meant another afternoon off. I cancelled immediately but foolishly decided to give her another chance when she sent an email suggesting she was interested in treating me. In hindsight, I think the receptionist relayed that I was annoyed and it was a new practice at the time... COSMETIC: At Dr. Krishnan's suggestion, I received a steroid injection on 2 types of raised scars that did absolutely nothing. This isn't her fault as she can't know how skin will react but in combination with all the other issues, it was more disappointment. After her lack of ability to help with anything, I didn't have confidence in her suggestions/ skill and am glad I didn't let her do micro needling. Other derms will ask if you want to use the syringe on another spot but she used 1/4 and threw it away so quickly that when I asked immediately after it was injected whether they could do another scar, the syringe (that you pay for) was already in the bin. She just shrugged. LASER HAIR REMOVAL: Arya Derm said they offer laser hair removal. But, when you inquire, it's up to you to know the different kinds of lasers and that she only has one. You'll find out when you're already in the office (with your credit card on file) that she only treats people with "little to no pigment". Imagine my confusion when she referred me to Laser Away after reading this self serving, fear mongering, statement on her website: "Although a number of "medical spas" offer cosmetic treatments for cheaper prices, what they often fail to tell you is that these services are usually performed by non-physicians, or by physicians who are not board certified in dermatology or plastic surgery. See NBC's investigative report for more information." That might be true (I think Laser Away has RNs) but it's odd. HS: I inquired before booking to see if she treats hidradenitis suppurativa; she said yes. When I was in severe pain, she admitted she doesn't actually treat "active" HS. She only prescribes antibiotics and topical which any nurse practitioner can do over the phone. I thought I had found a well-informed doctor, but because of her half truths, I was on my own. She referred me to the first doctor that came up on google for HS in SF. When I told her that doctor isn't accepting clients, instead of suggesting even one other name, she spent that time lecturing me that it's not her responsibility to know other doctor's schedules. How foolish of me to think she may have some insight. MEDICATION: She prescribed antibiotics. When I had a bad reaction, she provided no support, alternatives, or answers. Her only response was "I'm so sorry to hear about the complications you are experiencing." I had to call to ask what I should do, and she relayed through her "patient concierge" that I should just stop taking it with no explanations of why or side effects of doing so. She simply ignored that I was still in pain. EMAILS: I don't expect a response within 24 hrs or on weekends, but it consistently takes her nearly a week. She only responds (v. condescendingly) if you follow up. Every other doctor I see is prompt and actually helpful in their responses. At the very least, other doctors provide matter of fact, useful info, instead of superfluous things that don't affect you like "all my other patients do well with that treatment", or that "most people don't experience side affects". The implication, of course, is that it's my fault that her treatment didn't work on me with no further solutions provided. ___ ****TLDR*** Dr. Lavanya Krishnan said she could help with a skin condition, but doesn't actually treat it. Arya Derm offers no laser hair removal for people with any "pigment" (light skin only). So, while they weren't technically dishonest, there are suddenly these huge caveats you'll only discover once you've paid for your rushed appt and are left with no results or care. She wasn't concerned about my pain or side effects of medication she prescribed. I found Dr. Krishnan condescending and lacking compassion. ___ read more

I went in to see Dr. Krishnan because I had a rash on my neck that would not go away. For months I had an itchy, peeling, snake-skin-like neck. I found Dr. K to be professional, direct, into the point. She's not a warm person, and she didn't give me any information above and beyond her diagnosis and what I should do about it. Dr. K told me to wear a scarf around my neck (which initially I balked at) and she gave me an Rx for a low-dose oil-based prescription (that I also balked at since I'd try high-dose cortisone Rxs and they were not working). Although I love Dr. K's office--it's beautiful and clean and the staff very professional--I left feeling like I'd wasted my time with such a new, young dermatologist. But it worked! After the scarf and the Rx, my neck is now human! Dr. Krishnan was the only one (after I'd seen two other dermatologists who'd been practicing for DECADES) who gave me solid, useful advice and an Rx that worked. I don't need someone warm and bubbly (it's kind of old-timey to think women have to be all nurturing, soothing and smiling), I needed someone competent and firm who knew her stuff. She has always been super candid about what to expect from procedures and honestly one of the best derms I've had and over the years I've seen 10+. I came in with a concern of acne scars during the pandemic and she recommended a series of Fraxel laser treatments and even though they can be expensive the results are completely worth it!! Dr. Krishnan is the BEST! I first came to her because I had terrible melasma that no other treatment had been able to fix. She did a few rounds of microneedling and put me on a new home regiment and now it's completely gone. My skin looks better now at 34 than it did when I was 28. She's also done Botox on me a few times and I've been happy with the results each time. I would completely trust her to do any and all treatments. Also, her office is beautiful and everyone that works there is ridiculously nice. The regular dermatologist I had been seeing for my annual skin check-ups for about 15 years is very difficult to get an appointment with on short notice, so I started searching for another dermatologist and found Dr. Meghan Hession. To make a long story short, she took a precautionary biopsy that required another procedure after lab results came back. I felt I was very well taken care of by Dr. Hession and her staff. I really wanted to like this place and support a woman-owned practice. I chose it because I was having severe hormonal skin issues on my face after weaning my son, and I heard the owner is a local mom. So I thought I would find good care here. I saw Dr. Patel. She looked at my face with makeup on, and she said I had rosacea. I asked if I should remove my makeup. She said no, she can see what is going on. She prescribed some medication and said to wait 6-8 weeks to see improvement. I said ok, that is standard for skin care, and I got the prescription. After 1 month, I saw zero improvement. I sent a message and asked if I should switch medication. She said no, I need to wait the full 2 months. Meanwhile, I decided to make an appointment somewhere else. At the 6-week point, I still had zero improvement. The new doctor I saw elsewhere immediately switched my medication to treat the hormonal cause of my skin issues. Within 2 weeks, I saw minor improvement. By 6 weeks, my skin was clear. I understand sometimes doctors make mistakes with prescribing the wrong medication, but I really felt like she did not take the time to even look at my skin or listen to my medical history. She was patronizingly telling me her expert opinion and disregarding what I was saying and experiencing. I lost trust in her ability to treat my skin issues, so I had to go elsewhere. read more

I think I finally found a good dermatologist. I went as a new patient. As I arrived I was escorted to the back by Emily who is the Patient Concierge. Emily was nice, she welcomed me and made me feel comfortable. Then came in Dr. Patel. She was very informative and laid out several options to treating my melasma from pills, creams, and laser treatment. I like options and she gave me a few. Upon leaving, Laurie the office manager prepared my Arya Derm Skin Tone Enhancement Pads and offered to schedule my next visit. I left feeling like the whole team at Arya Derm was vested in my successful skin care experience. Thank you Dr. Patel, thank you Laurie, and thank you Emily. All of my appointments were less than 5 minutes. I don't feel I got to talk about everything I wanted to. I wish she would have looked at my skin properly and addressed all the issues instead of just quickly focusing on the one thing I asked (even though I said I hated my skin) and ran out the door. I know I'm high risk for skin cancer. I'm fair, burn easily, have already had pre cancerous moles and have a family history of melanoma. I KNOW I need to get my moles checked every 6 months. But historically, that has always just been something I put off. Its so hard to get an appointment, then I always have to schedule follow ups if I need a biopsy, etc. I'm so glad I found Dr. Hession and Arya Derm. They were able to get me in the week I called! While a specific mole I was worried about was fine, Dr. Hession identified another mole that was high risk and biopsied it right then and there. (She followed up two days later that it was fine) During the check she also diligently took photos and maintained a file on me, so she can see how my skin changes over time. This is something I have to manage the rest of my life, but I feel much more at ease about it knowing someone's also watching out for me. PS: going to the dermatologist is much less dreadful when its such a pleasant atmosphere... I'd call this place the One Medical of dermatology. read more

Full disclosure - I know Dr. Krishnan personally as well. I have been going to their office for the last several months for various procedures (Botox, some filler as well as facials with the aesthetician). I have had a great experience each time. The office runs on time, very efficient and smoothly. The front office staff/receptionist and MAs are all excellent, bright and are always to answer my questions well. My procedures - most recently Botox and the dermal infusion facial with Jenny have gone very well with minimal irritation or pain. Really wonderful! The years go by, as have the different skin conditions and treatments I've gotten from Arya Derm. But the office remains a refreshing and delightful oasis. The doctors, staff, and office personnel are so good, professional, upbeat, likable and responsive. The office itself is tasteful and feels like a spa, just a few blocks from Union Square (and not unpleasant blocks to walk). Need an appointment fast for some reason? You might get a pleasant text at 6pm when other offices are closed with an offer to get you in for a cancellation or an idea to get you in sooner if you need to be seen quickly. I did. First of all, Arya Derm has the most stunning practice you could imagine. Every inch of the office is impeccably clean, and the interior design is sleek and modern. The ladies at the front desk were helpful and considerate. I didn't have treatment with Dr. Krishnan, but I had the pleasure to meet her. She is knowledgeable, personable, and empathetic. I had my first Dermal Infusion today with Jenny, the esthetician on staff. She is excellent at explaining each procedure before doing them. She is obviously well read and passionate about all the treatments because she answered every single one of my questions. Conversation with her was natural because she has the ability to relate to and understand everything. She also asked me about my current skincare routine and suggested some adjustments to make it more effective. The table was heated and the room was decorated beautifully to match the rest of the office. The Dermal Infusion left my skin feeling super supple and plump. This machine exfoliates, sucks out impurities, and infuses the skin with serums (customizable to your skin type - I got the brightening one) all at once. After the Dermal Infusion my skin felt super supple and plump! In addition, I got a Mandelic acid peel. Jenny said she chose this treatment to help with my acne scars (I used to have rampant cystic acne when I was younger), but also because it is a lighter peel that works well in combination with the Dermal Infusion. She made sure to check in often during the Mandelic acid peel to make sure nothing was too unbearable. After all my treatments, Jenny replenished my skin with serums, moisturizers (including eye cream), and sunscreen (so important)! I left the office as a very happy client! I went to see Dr. Patel after reading some positive reviews on reddit. I was dealing with really intense/dark red hyperpigmentation around my cheeks and chin, and tried following online skincare regimens with no clear progress. When Dr. Patel saw me, she listened intently to my concerns and my skin type and was able to recommend me a whole new skincare routine right away. She made sure to explain exactly how to use each product, why it was important for my skin concern, and any side effects I should be cautious about. She also recommended a mix of high-end and drugstore products and explained that brands like Cetaphil are incredibly useful. It made me trust her more as she wasn't just selling me a bunch of expensive products, but products that would work for my skin. I have somewhat sensitive skin and the new skincare regimen she put me on did not cause any issues or excessive breakouts. Two months later, my skin is the clearest it's ever been since I was a teenager. Coworkers, people on the street, even my dentist has noticed and complimented my skin! I have never felt so confident. ​I went to Arya Derm with a planar wart problem. Despite me trying to do cryotherapy myself with some freezer I bought at Amazon, the problem didn't go away, and it became painful to step on that food. Dr. Krishnan still recommended cryotherapy, insisting that her liquid nitrogen should freeze more deeply and will help with my problem. She also prescribed me to take Zinc every day to help my body fight the wart and make applications with Salicylic acid. That combined approach provided good results, so even after the first visit I felt better, and was able to work normally in a week or two. I still had to visit her office several times to finish the wart. I think I made three visits total (2 weeks between visits). Dr. Krishnan answered all my questions and was very helpful. In the end, I haven't paid too much of co-pay, insurance covered most of my treatment cost. Creating an appointment was an easy process through their website. I can recommend this place. read more

So full disclosure: I knew Dr Krishnan personally prior to my first time to Arya Derm...and honestly because of that I wasn't sure if I should see her because of 3 different dermatological issues / needs I had. Not only was she super professional but more importantly she showed off her smarts / skill and diagnosed my embarrassing ailments accurately. My Quality of Life was suffering (one ailment caused pain, all 3 ailments affected my social life); and immediately upon following her instructions and taking the meds she prescribed, quickly all 3 ailments were resolved. Not only did she treat the symptoms but also gave me a robust plan for prevention too (which have proven to be helpful). I'm ever so grateful she's in the Bay Area and more appreciative that she helped me get back to my healthy and best self. She was also honest and realistic. Arya Derm is excellent. I've seen Dr. Forum Patel over the last year and a half for a number of skin concerns and she is nothing short of brilliant. She listens, she gives recommendations (at ALL price points!), and is not only incredibly personable, but knows her stuff. Most importantly though, I've seen results - I first came in for a dog bite scar, before moving on to addressing texture/hyperpigmentation from acne scarring. I am just so pleased with the results and can't recommend Dr. Patel and Arya Derm enough. I've often been afraid of some derm offices feeling a little stuffy or worse, pushy. I feel so comfortable and in the right hands here, from the front desk to the team of medical assistants, everyone here makes it a pleasurable experience. (Shout-out to Emily!)
