Dr. Macgregor is the best! let me just start by writing that. I have been going to his office for 8 years and have never had a problem. Recently I had an appt. in February for a procedure and got the flu and called to cancel it which was fine however, whoever is in charge of scheduling decided to schedule another appt. for me without checking with me or talking to me. I guess I missed this unsolicited appt that I didn't schedule and now I'm being charged for a copay to a service I never received. The lady I talked to (I believe her name was Karla) about this was absolutely and unnecessarily rude and while I'm explaining this to her, she decides to hang up on me. Like girl! be professional. Again, everyone there has been super nice all these years and I have no idea who this person is representing Dr. MacGregor. ----------------------------- Follow up: The Staff took care of it right away! I arrived very early, because there was a glitch in the documents I needed to fill out ahead of my appt. I got through most of it but the continue button would not let me continue. I did not not dare to be late after a number of texts indicating I must NOT be late. The office waiting room has a captivating view of The City, is open and airy with comfortable seats appropriately spaced, presenting a pleasant first impression. There were three "regulars" who came in apologetically late, which did not seem to bother the young women at the front desk. After finishing a much less time consuming pages than the website seemed to have, I was ushered in early and waited only a minute or two for Dr MacGregor to come in. He presented a very positive first impression. He is professional, yet friendly and comfortable from the get go. He asked probing questions, listening to the intently to my answers and concerns. He also took great care to check areas I had concern over and ended up doing three relatively quick and painless biopsies, which he told me he would call me when the results came in. I saw Dr. MacGregor last July after having laser complications at another dermatology office. A too-high Vbeam setting was used repeatedly on my cheeks and my cheeks became hypersensitive and the skin became firm. I was so desperate that I saw two other dermatologists before I saw Dr. MacGregor seeking help on my cheeks. Dr. MacGregor was the doctor who examined my skin most thoroughly and took the time to answer my questions. I have seen him several times since my first appt and he is always very thorough in examining my skin and very supportive of what I am going through. He is always very professional and kind. My cheeks are still hypersensitive and it's still firm to touch after a year of the botched laser at another clinic, but I am extremely grateful to Dr. MacGregor for his honest and thorough examination. I truly regret not seeing him first for my skin issues and I would not have suffered laser complications. Dr. MacGregor is very down-to-earth and highly ethical and he won't recommend unnecessary procedures or products. I strongly recommend Dr. MacGregor if you have any skin issues. read more

Everything seemed perfect. The building, the office, the staff, but Dr. MacGregor said noting, did nothing, and left me wanting for answers. He was awful! I have a history of skin cancer. He went over my body with a magnifying glass, said everything was okay, but I know I have pre-cancers. I pointed out the bumps on my scalp, and he still just said everything is okay. I don't know where these great reviews are coming from, but my experience was bad. Dr MacGregor showed zero interest in the issues I came with, he rushed through everything very fast. I came with hair loss and wanted to check my moles as I have a lot of them. He looked through my skin in a couple minutes and said everything is fine , which was unusual experience as doctors usually use a magnifying glass and spend some time to ensure they look at every mole given the number of moles. Hair loss - I had to ask myself to do some labs, as he just wanted to put me on a minoxidil pill, however I wanted to find an actual reason of my hair loss. Doctor's diagnosis was 'genetics', however I can't even remember if he asked about my family history , and that I'm in that age when women start to lose their hair. And yes, those two 5 minute appointments I had were charged to my insurance as LONG. I'm just gonna find some other doctor to do another skin check and consult on hair loss again. read more

Prior to booking an appointment for my skin concerns, I wanted to verify my insurance coverage. I was able to get a hold of Ariel after playing phone tag a few times. I was looking for a dermatologist I could trust for fillers on the upper cheek area, people around me asking me why I looked tired. Doctor MacGregor came recommended by a friend of mine, and after 2 sessions I have to say I am very happy with the care and the attention I got from Dr MacGregor and his charming staff. Dr MacGregor saved my nose and possibly more. I was misdiagnosed and given the incorrect skin biopsy when I had skin cancer for a whole year. My PCP referred me to Dr MacGregor who did the proper procedures and was diagnosed with an infiltrative type of cancer. He sent me to UCSF for surgery and I will be forever grateful. Dr. David MacGregor is the best and Christine, his assistant is also. They are truly the "stars" of the show. Too bad people in their staff are causing them to lose patients. I've been a patient for years and so has my husband. I even brought my sister to Dr. MacGregor and promised her she was in good hands, but for lack of courtesy from one of their staff NO ONE in my family will be returning. I love this office. Christina Tucker, chief assistant, is a wonder of efficiency and friendly reassurance. I often think my problem is large (and itchy!), but so far, she has always been able to find an easy solution - a simple salve or powder, or a new way of washing, shampooing, etc. At my age (75), it's all about reassurance - "no, it's not cancer". ;-) Highly recommended! read more

Let's cut to the chase, this guy knows what he is doing. His physician assistant Christina has it going on too. I have been going for years to both, as I have lots of moles and a history of skin cancer. Including a family history of Melanoma, so smarts really counts for me before bedside manner. Dr. MacGregor has done a great job, however I would like to compliment Karla in the office, who has gone above and beyond assisting me in my billing. I just signed up for Medicare and she was very responsive and helpful in figuring out and explaining to me the Medicare/Part G billing, deductible etc quagmire. Surprised by the negative reviews that seem to focus on insurance billing or feeling rushed. I've never felt rushed to a point where I can't get my questions answered and have been going to him for over 2 years. Perhaps some patients are used to the speed at which he addresses things? I appreciate that he is efficient with time, since that means he's able to see his patients on schedule and sometimes take care of authorizing prescriptions etc.. in between. I suggest for any doctor's appointment, have a list of questions prepared and reference these in your conversation. He isn't going to walk out on you! Aside from that, Botox has always been perfect and he does not oversell you on any cosmetic needs. I chose this place because of their location. They messed up my appointment, and acted as if it was my fault. I still got to see another doctor after a lengthy wait. The doctor I was in rush, spent no more than 5 minutes on the visit. Only because I was a laser treatment done that day I gave 2 start. I spent ~1h there just waiting and 7 minutes with the doctor. This was my first experience getting a treatment from a dermatologist. I did not know what to expect. I had gone to another dermatologists office at 450 Sutter, and the front desk staff was so grim that I went on yelp and read reviews that were scary, I walked out! So it was a major relief to experience the patience and kindness of Dr MacGregor's receptionist. There were complications over my insurance, and after speaking with him a few times, we figured out what i needed done was likely cosmetic so would not be covered by insurance anyhow. He quoted me a very reasonable out-of-pocket price, so I booked the appointment.(I had already gotten a cancer-free diagnosis from a doctor who did take my insurance but did not do cosmetic work) I saw Christina Tucker, and within moments the sun damage that had been irritating me for years was taken care of! What a relief! I was so happy I could not resist giving her a hug. I was not looking forward to registering via the online portal, but it was not that painful and its actually really handy! After my appointment they messaged me all the details of my appointment like medical terms that I would not have remembered. Plus, I was able to send follow-up questions and got quick answers from Christina. I would definitely go back to Dr. MacGregor's office to see either him or Christina. I just got out of my first visit at this office and I'm really pleased with the service and experience I had with the front desk and the physician assistant, Lesley Taylor Bowler. After a couple visits with my PCP, I was finally given the okay for a referral to see a specialist for a stubborn skin issue. Since I'm still nursing, I'm limited to the kinds of medication I can use. When I first called in to make my initial visit, I was told Dr. MacGregor was booked for a month and a half and the soonest appt. I could get with any of his physician assistants was a month away. Disappointed, I tried to get a referral to other specialist who could see me sooner. I gave up for a while...waiting about a month, but then I decided to try Dr. MacGregor's office another time and the receptionist said she could get me next week with Lesley, one of his PA's. What a relief! Upon checking in, receptionist asked for my insurance card to copy for their records. When I offered my ID, the she said it was not necessary as they take a photo for their files. They use a camera that resembles a webcam. So, if you are a new patient, be prepared to have your photo taken! Lesley introduced herself and straight way came off as extremely friendly and warm. Upon examination of my issue, she assured me that my issue was not bad at all and I just need a stronger medication. Aware of my nursing, she assured me that the med had been prescribed to other nursing moms and even pregnant women. Lesley is awesome and I'm glad I had my appointment with her. I'm so happy that my PCP referred this specialist. I'll write a follow-up later if I end up having to return to the office in case the treatment does not work. read more

I really wanted to like my visits to doctor MacGregor, but unfortunately the whole experience was a disaster. I was misdiagnosed on the very first visit, and being prescribed medicine that was not helping me. After coming back and telling him about my persistent symptoms, all he said to me was that this is basically my fate now, I have to use these medications all the time, basically every day, and the disease that I have is permanent. Although I was telling him that I see no improvement, he tried to convince me otherwise. At the end of the day, I had a severe infection, but I learnt about it only in an urgent care office, after a treatment from this doctor that did everything only worse. Can't recommend a doctor that jumps straight to a "confirmed" diagnosis without even testing. read more

Dr. David MacGregor is one of my doctors I most look forward to seeing. Both friendly and interesting. He is also an expert dermatologist, often finding cancers that I had missed. Because of severe guttate psoriasis when I was in my early 20's, I tried an experimental treatment, that although completely clearing my skin that was 80% covered in what looked just like the German measles, it left me prone to dozens of skin cancers to date. So I consider myself somewhat an expert in detecting skin cancers. David's staff are genuine, friendly, and very proficient in their jobs. I strongly recommend Dr. MacGregor should you be looking for a dermatologist that "knows his stuff". read more

He used to be my favorite doctor but something changed. In the last 3 appointments he has practically insisted on very expensive aesthetic procedures that produced no apparent change in my skin. When I pointed it out he did not say anything or offer to try again. He didn't listen to what I said I wanted and practically had it started before I could object as strongly as I wanted. He's great at botox however and as long as you make VERY clear the areas you want and INSIST on areas you don't want, he does know his stuff on that. read more
