Seth Gold came to our Richmond home this afternoon to help us figure out why we have so much water pooling in our front yard and to "audit" the total irrigation system. I've worked with several landscapers over the years, but I've never talked to one that was so knowledgeable about every plant we had or about our system and how best to maintain it. In just an hour, he had fixed all of our problems, checked our timer to make sure it was coordinated with each part of our system (something no-one has ever done before), and made sure he showed me each repair he'd done. After reaching out to several different companies in search of someone to come do a "check up" and some repairs on my backyard irrigation system, Seth was the first to reply. I was so thrilled that he offered to come by the very next day. He clearly communicated his process - that he could either come by and do a free estimate, or do what he calls an irrigation audit (and gave me a precise cost for that) and also offered to bring repair materials if the job was easy enough he could do it all in one swoop. He called me the day of his visit to give me his precise arrival time, which was greatly appreciated. SUPER impressed with him and his services. Not only is he knowledgeable about his trade but he is also a genuinely nice guy. He repaired some leaks in my system, AND gave me a tutorial and left supplies behind so I can do minor maintenance and repairs myself in the future. He also had a lot of great recommendations about landscape maintenance that I might consider in the future. Seth is knowledgeable, honest, and reliable. His prices are fair, his work is good, and his estimates are accurate. So far, he's done two projects for me: A general yard cleanup, weeding, and tree trimming. And installation of a new irrigation system and timer. Both projects were done on time and within the budget I expected. Seth took care of our children's yard several weeks ago, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the his work, and was very honest about his estimates. What he did for us: install three planters with some hardy plants, an irrigation drip system, a power wash, and even threw in some pruning and general maintenance in another part of the facility. Should have listened to Wendy F. Poor cleanup after work completed. Trashed the hedging in the yard requiring a second landscaper to fix. Would also ask for all receipts for costs of supplies and plants up front as Seth wasn't willing to provide them after work complete. read more

We hired Seth to do a clean up our fairly small front yard for $400. Our experience with both him and his work was really awful. When I interviewed him I made it clear that we were not looking for a mow & blow gardener; we wanted someone who knows a lot about plants, and would weed by hand and from the root to prevent grow back. He said he was exactly that kind of gardener and I was excited because we were seeking someone to do long-term, regular maintenance of our garden. Turns out he used a weed whacker and didn't weed by hand at all. Not only that, but we had just had new irrigation lines installed and I pointed out the sprayer heads to him before he began the work so that he could take care not to accidentally cut them when weeding, but he did indeed cut the heads off of each of the four sprayers, regardless. What's worse is that he not only didn't apologize, but was defensive and flat out rude about it, raising his voice and saying "These things can happen. You owe me money." It was odd because he required a deposit before beginning the work (which I had never experienced for such a small job), and then the rest immediately after, and this seemed to indicate he was accustomed to client dissatisfaction to the extent that they wouldn't want to pay the agreed upon amount. His work was sloppy - he didn't clean up cuttings well, used electric shearers to trim citrus tree instead of doing the agreed upon hand-pruning, and he's a volatile man completely lacking in professionalism. I wouldn't feel safe with him coming here again. read more

Unfortunately we relied on Seth to "stage" our front yard before our open house, something he claimed he was very experienced with. We were out of town to verify the work and when we returned, we found that Seth had failed to complete the work we agreed on and left the front yard untouched. When I called to ask him what happened, he became belligerent and started yelling at me, accusing him of trying to "rip him off," and he eventually hung up on me. Extremely unprofessional and rude. I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for your landscaping needs. read more

Seth is great! He does my monthly yard maintenance; he's reliable and does a great job at ensuring the yard looks good month after month. When I get down to improving the yard, there's no doubt I would use him to bring in what's going to be best for the yard as I would undoubtedly trust his insight as to what would look and work best. I initially passed up using "Good As Gold" because the rates were a bit higher than I wanted to pay, but after 4 rip off yard services (one even busted my fence and still tried to charge me $500 for their shabby work) I realized that the rates he was offering were a steal considering the reliability and expertise with plants in the SF climate. read more

I hired him to clean up my yard and build a retaining wall. He gave me a great deal on plants, he was knowledgeable and does really great work! My yard and new plants look great. I think it is best to hire an honest, licensed contractor for those special projects. read more

Seth was a sub-contractor on a job for us and did a good job. He stayed late a few days and rolled with changes well. Our yard looked great when he was finished. He explained our new sprinkler system too, which was quite helpful. I can't vouch for his design /creativity but we were happy with what he did. read more

Mr. Gold is by far the most knowlegeable and friendly landscaper I've ever dealt with. He did some work for me recently which I was extremely pleased with. He helped me choose plants and a sprinkler system that were so much more efficient than those I had been thinking of. His knowledge of native plants was exceptional and his price for labor and materials were fair. He designed and installed a beautiful yard for my family to enjoy. Horrible experience!!!!!! He is agrumentative and does not listen to what the client wants. He attempted to delay the completion date but we insisted he honor his committment. After the installation, there was absolute NO- ZERO follow-up. Several of the plants and trees died even though we followed his recommendations. We called him to inquire as to why they died or what we could do. His attitude was and I quote " I don't guarantee plants" or his work! In our opinion, he only wants the job, really doesn't care about what happens after he is paid. Speaking of being paid, he would not work on the job unless we paid him upfront - meaing he had to go to the bank and cash the check before he would continue on each progress payment. He is very unprofessional and we cannot recommend him. We had to hire another landscaper to check the irrigation system and replace the dead plants and trees. Sorry, this guy is difficult to work with, doesn't trust clients and when the job is finsihed, so is he! read more
